Hi all! For anyone who enjoyed this, I also have retrospectives on: Dark Souls 2 - ruclips.net/video/A2AopZHLLOg/видео.html and Dark Souls 3 - ruclips.net/video/ERcS3I5SKl0/видео.html Cheers!
48:53 The last necromancer you kill is guaranteed to drop a skull lantern. 54:03 Gwyndolin can be accessed freely in Dark Anor Londo, no ring required.
I’ve been watching your retrospectives and I really love your content, the narration; the quips, even the choices of music and background footage, it’s always good to see fresh faces in the souls community, I can’t wait to see yo blow up!
I actually, JUST beat ds1 for the first time this past week. I've been into FromSoft since bloodborne, sekiro, eldenring, and a little AC6....i tried over and over again to get into DS1. Now that i finally beat it...I'm already going through it again. I didn't "get it" for so long....but once i beat this game, everything just hit all at once. This game is damn near perfect. *Points off for bed of chaos*
So this is what it’s like to stumble on a channel before it explodes and gets huge. Great videos, can’t wait to see you get the subscribers you deserve
Mate, I'd listen to you for hours on end: even you listing out all the weapons and armour of Dark Souls - no need to apologize for random tangents, I love them. You have such a good style of presentation. I'm glad to have found your channel!
Seriously I said it on your blasphemous video but your videos are so great I love the way you articulate edit and describe everything. Thx for the uploads
I had the exact same experience as you with the remastered edition on PC. I was extremely frustrated my first time through and gave up at the gargoyles, which I couldn’t fathom I was supposed to beat. Then I came back months later, and using a controller (which did help a lot) and the help of a few videos explaining mechanics I plowed through the game and loved it.
I know you talked about the structure of the video and it being a mess or something but I’d actually disagree with you on this. I love your structure of videos I’ve watched 4 of your retrospectives now and the way you seamlessly transition between story and combat/ general game design has easily become one of my favorite styles I’ve come across. The paving of your videos is very good and it’s easy to tell how much you truly love these games. Keep up the good work man!
Something I really love about Fromsoft games is that they never once slow you down for the sake of the story. A trend I hate in modern games is forced walking sections, and we should all be ashamed of ourselves for letting devs get away with it. Fromsoft gives you total interactive agency from beginning to end. The story is presented the way it is so it doesn't bog you down if you're not interested in it, but if you are, you have to work for it and I love that. Thanks for the video, man. And if anyone else enjoys that type of storytelling, here are some books I recommend: Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson and Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe.
I just bought dark souls remastered after beating shadow of the erdtree dlc in elden ring because I needed more souls gameplay. And this game honestly is still hard lmao I thought I was going to go through this game and destroy everything but I didn’t I got wrecked and sometimes it’s hard to know where your supposed to go next but I did end up finishing it and the dlc which was my first time trying it and it was great, all the bosses were fun
I believe the limitations of what bonfires you can warp to is partially to discourage people from kindling a single bonfire to 20 and just warp to and from that one to get 20 flasks. That's just a guess on my part, though.
It's as if RUclips knows that I'm about to try out Dark Souls after having played Elden Ring for months. I'll definitely keep this video in mind, sir! The length alone tells me it's a perfect fit for me (I'm not a fan of shorts at all for multiple reasons).
yeah give it a like and come back to it, it's excelent ! One of the best parts of fromsoftware games are watching the analysis, critiques and lore videos after you finish them lol
@@TheSteveo909 I fully agree, this is the kind of game series I genuinely enjoy because of all the additional content it can provide you with, both in and outside of the game. The only thing that slightly bugs me is the low amount of views it receives compared to how well it's made, but I suppose that could be because of the algorithm.
42:37 there is one bonfire you can teleport to in Tomb Of The Giants, but to my knowledge there is none for Darkroot Garden or Basin, Sens Fortress, Undead Burg, The Great Hollow, Demon Ruines, Lost Izalith, yet they have 1 for Nitos boss fight arena and the Abyss which you will never visit after killing the 4 Kings, unless you manage to get Darkserpent Kaathe to spawn
I love tomb of the giants. Genuinely my favorite late game area. Super gloomy, interesting enemies, and Leeroy. Then again, I have better spacial reasoning than 99.5% of people, so I think that makes it more enjoyable for me.
Late to this video, but well done. The Demon Princes from DS3 DLC also have a different 2nd phase depending on whether you kill "pain" or "from Above" first. I guess they look similar though, but move sets are pretty different. Excellent video.
Disappointed me when I saw your subscriber count. You put a lot of effort into this video and I can tell you put just as much into your others as well, and I think they deserve more recognition than the RUclips algorithm has given it with other viewers. Keep it up man
I'm stuck on the very end of Elden Ring... That "universe" boss.. as soon as I beat him, it's on to Dark Souls 1 for me! (If I can ever actually beat him).
Im so glad i finally got dark souls earlier this year. I didn't think i would like it because I usually like slower rpgs. It lives up to the hype. I love it
Worry Not Fellow Ashen One, When I Became A Hunter (or As Eileen Put It Hoonter), I Had To Step Away For A While, Before Giving It Another Go. All It Took Was A Push And A Walkthrough And I Was Set. I Tried It Out First Before Searching For Help. Went Through The Whole Game of Bloodborne Solo, Using A Walkthrough. Once I Began To Understand The Game, And Get A Groove Into It, It Birthed My Love For Soulsborne. Sekiro Being My All Time Favourite Combat Wise. (Yes, I Consider Sekiro As Part of Soulsborne).
I'm sure you would know by now but there is another way to commence the dark son boss fight and thats if you kill the woman who gives you the lord vessel
I remember how in my first playthrough I somehow ended up getting to blighttown through valley of drakes only to end up climbing up blighttown and getting to the depths entrance on the wrong side and having to get back down...
If you weren’t trolling about the Anor Londo intro, then I’m sorry to tell you you missed one of the most awe-inspiring music stings in FromSoft history 😢
This is great. I also bounced off Dark Souls at first. Like you i just dont think i was mature enough to appreciate the game it is. Thabkfully I came back to it and its now one of my fave gsmes of all time.
Most excellent content 🤌 With a sea of incredible videos on the same topic you manage to shine with great incandescence!!!! Very refreshing, looking forward to more 🤘
Excellent video mate! I'm just going through the remaster on ps5, for the first time! I've done the series randomly having started with Bloodborne, demon souls, ds3 and now ds1. Not sure whether to do ds2 before Eldon Ring. But I'm hooked on the souls games now, that's certain. I stopped you vid at the point where I'm at in the game, and will come back when I finish. Cheers 🙏🍻 For anyone playing a souls game for the first time, I would recommend listening to this as a podcast, without the visuals. I think it explains so much I wish I knew when i played my first souls game. And without the visuals, there's not much it would spoil.
When I picked up ds1 I had heard how hard it was so when I got to the skeletons outside firelink I just kept grinding there until I could kill them all and didn't realize I was going the wrong way until some of the ones deeper down kept resurrecting, when I returned after getting Astora Straight Sword I got to the tomb of the giants and couldn't progress and couldn't warp out because no lord vessel. Was stuck in the dark for hours before I found the way back up. Same pain in demon ruins when I hit the impassible light door and had to walk back out.
lol, you just gave me flashbacks. I did almost the exact same thing on my first playthrough. I spent hours fighting through the graveyard and catacombs before I realized I was going the wrong way.
If anyone want a similar satisfaction beating a boss you have trouble with then I have to recommend Armored Core. Seeing an enemy AC blow up that was giving you trouble gives that same dopamine rush. Also, you will see From Software have been making the same type of games for a long time.
Channels like yours, you making this video, inspires me to change my channel to more of a talk channel about the games i love, great work man keep it up
I was a “hater” of the Souls games since Demon Souls, for no other reason than to be a contrarian. However I would buy all the games when they’d come out try it thinking that this would be the time it finally clicks for me, but never happened. Until about 3 years ago when I was looking for something to play, I picked up Dead Cells. Something about the 2D style finally made me understand how the games work. So after completing Dead Cells, I dusted off my Steam copy of Dark Souls, started playing it in earnest and I was absolutely hooked!
There are actually two ways of getting to the valley of drakes without the master key even before New Londo: One is through Darkroot Basin, the other from Blighttown.

There's supposed to be a short bit of music there during the cutscene when you enter Anor Londo for the first time, pity that weird bug dampened the introduction.
very good video! i've played a lot of games over the past 20 years but nothing comes close to that first playthrough of Dark Souls 1. Certainly nothig has impacted me as much or made me feel the emotions I did going through this for the first time. Don't get me wrong i've loved pretty much every fromsoftware title but this one remains my favorite. Excelent video!
you can also kill the ghosts if you are just proper cursed. Honestly, I wish the transient curse items weren't a thing, so you had to be actually cursed. Would be really interesting
Glad this video has found its way to me. Really nice video although it might be all over the places at times, but I've quite enjoyed going from weapons to story to combat in the span of three minutes lol. PS: titanite demon could go fuck itself. Easily my least favorite enemy in the game and one of my least favorite in ANY game ever. Subscribed!
The only reason I was able to beat Dark Souls 1 was because I knew I would feel great when I beat it. I just had to push through. I struggled way more than I expected, but I was hooked from the beginning. I know that nowadays, beating them isn't all that impressive, but considering I didn't have much experience with other souls games, Artorias and Manus were insane to me. But I pulled through, and I felt amazing after beating Manus. But after Gwyn, I just felt empty. I almost wish I could've beat Manus last because he was much harder than Gwyn
Just to think of it. Dark Souls as a game that it is is not too special at all. I hold that opinion ever since. I understand that to some people it might have been the first challenging game to them. Cool to hear you talk about it being compared to Skyrim. That was the first time I heard of Ds1 was it being compared to Skyrim and i couldnt understand how anything could be better than Skyrim. Now the DS is probably my favourite series!

Yeah I wonder if he accidentally turned the music off
