We tried to bring out a wide array of cool tourmaline specimens for our newest Gemologist v Geologist video. What did you like best? What stone would you like us to feature next in this series?
it's hard to choose the prettiest one. I did not know that there are 32 types: D. A pendant with cut thirmaline would be gorgeous.
I would like you to do an episode with Opal. The most beautiful stone in the world: D
I think that it would be super awesome if you could do a video all about Kentucky Agate, with it’s popularity even with people uninterested in collecting, I believe it could do really well on the channel! Also with it being such a largely popular agate variety, it would be really awesome to hear all about different elements that make up the stunning colors as well as inclusions and formations! Plus it’s practically in our back yard!
That tourmaline slice is simply gorgeous. Nature is amazing. Great video 🙂🌷
My favs in this clip in order are the Paraiba, the Rubellite, and the yellow. I'm curious as to if yellow could be treated to pink or vice versa by heat or irradiation as the coloring agent is different oxidative states of the same element. Are all light blues considered "Paraiba"? Keep up the good work! #youhadmeatTourmaline.
Tanzanite! If y'all haven't done that yet
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Rocks make me so happy! Thank you for showcasing their beauty!
You could spend your entire life collecting tourmaline and still see something new every few years or so... such an amazing stone! My favorite have got to be from Minas Gerias. Such a wide variety available from that region and so beautiful!
Hello i want you to see my discovery plz if you are an expert.
I just love love LOVE watermelon tourmaline. You guys should do an episode on "fruity" themed gems. 🍉 Great video as always. 💖
Lol
OK, so each time I watch one of your vlogs I think that you guy's can't outdo yourselves. Well, this video is so far in the lead. I kind of choked up a bit when you guys showed the Liddicoatite. I was going through the GG program on campus when my instructor came in and said, "HE is here!". Indeed, Mr. Liddicoat was on campus that day. I CAN'T describe or tell how kind, warm, and approachable he was and how generous this ROCKSTAR of the gemological world was with his time. Thank you again for another amazing video that gemologists and enthusiasts can enjoy. You guys rock!
As a geologist and mineral collector i loved how you explained the properties of turmalines, its compositions, its forming process. Not so much of a fan to gems because to us geologists we love the raw materials.
I absolutely love that faceted green one you showed near the beginning! The way the light scatters in rays is so cool. I need to get me some tourmaline now!
That another fascinating "Gemologist versus Geologist" overcame all the expectations!
REAL GREAT work, girls!
You are amazing professionals.
The details about the gemstones, the explanation about the "causes of colors" (the chemical coloring agents present in the gemstones) are amazing and really great scientifical information
Thanks Gemstones and staff!
Maine tourmaline ❤️ Mt Mica, Oxford, and Androscoggin Counties have an incredible mining history. Many areas are still producing beautiful specimens and gemstone quality pieces. I found a 64 k green tourmaline at Mt.Mica.
These are all gorgeous!!! As a crystal and mineral enthusiast and collector, I do have many pieces of tourmaline. I love tourmaline of all colors! These were some fabulous specimens, but if I had to pick a favorite, the indicolite in quartz was very cool! But truly, they’re all so beautiful I would prefer to keep them all rather than having to choose just one:)
It's amazing to see all of these tourmaline gemstones.😃💎 I find it very fascinating to know the facts about them like how they get their layers of colors🌈💎, where they're form and to see many kind of them.😯 My favorites are the cotton candy one, the electric light blue🔵 one from Brazil🇧🇷 and the cat's eye one. Both of you thanks for teaching us about them.👩🏫 Nice video.🙂👍💖💚💎
I'm absolutely obsessed with Tourmaline. I had a pineapple-size block of white quartz with multiple rods of bluish green, dark blue and one bi-color crystal running through it and when my place was broken into, it was stolen. I've never found anything remotely similar below a high 4 digit price tag and insurance limits were quickly exhausted replacing other items.
Wow, that's rough!
I LOVE this series. I value my jewelry as a woman, but as an engineer I’m fascinated by areas of science that aren’t my specialty.
Wow! Those tourmaline specimens are exquisite! Watermelon tourmaline is one of my favorites! ive not seen cats eye tourmaline before. All, very cool! Thanks for the information!
Great episode! Tourmaline is always a hit. Beautifully done. I love these longer episodes btw! I can never get enough 😄
Tourmaline is literally the love of my life I will never get enough of it.
Can you Help me identify a sample plz.
I love tourmaline too, especially in a pegmatite of lepidolite!
We need more videos about gem families! more specimenes with this two admirable and wise women! :D Greetings from Mexico! love your videos!
Such a fascinating mineral, I really didn’t know there were so many beautiful colours. My favourite one was the Schorl specimen that Britney chose. Another great share, thank you. 💙👍
I want you to see my discovery. Need help to identify the Tourmaline i discovered.
Pink Tourmaline. Wish you could have a look at my vintage PT ring, women's -- rather showy -- and I never take it off and everyone gasps when they see it!
I am an artist and all colors or absence of them are my favorites in gems, minerals, and everything else. Through your channel, I have learned to love even more than I thought I did! I think seeing the many varieties of one gem, mineral, or anything under the umbrella, is wonderful and hope to see more of such things..and have here. Thanks, as always!
I love this duo and this video concept! Keep ‘em coming
Holy smokes, the specimen at 5:11 !! *WOWZA* 😍
I love the vibe of these two together! Please do more videos together! 👍
I believe the first time i saw Paraiba tourmaline was 1991 at Tiffanys. It was a stunning electric stop light green, mesmerizing, and it is my favorite followed very closely by Rubellite. I am currently looking for a replacement Rubellite for my ring, the original stone broke and took with it my heart. Great video, thanks ladies.
I really enjoyed this video, Tourmaline is my all time favourite stone, I have a few small pieces of watermelon, black and pink tourmaline, they amaze me every time I look at them! Thanks for the incredible knowledge as always 💗
Tourmaline is so gorgeous its one of my favourites to look at and im glad to see you guys showcasing it.☺ The colour zoning is so fascinating!!!💖 Thank you for shoeing and informing us!!!💝
Rather than finding what toy have covered regarding tourmaline in this video, it could be worth to check what you have not covered. I am studying gemmology and thank you very much for this vital video.
after a bad day learning about tourmaline is the thing that gets me smiling
EASY top 10 in my all time favorite minerals & gems! It’s tricky to pick a definite favorite, but seeing as variety is a shared trait in my top 5 it’s certainly up there! Rubellite or paraiba being my two favorite varieties(paraiba being one of the major ones I’m still trying to acquire😂 maybe someday, hopefully😂) my favorite piece I own is an indicolite crystal with 3 different shades with a teal lower end, an aqua blue middle and an inky blue cap💎
Thanks or this video - lots of good info about Tourmalines. I mined for Tourmalines and other gems in Maine for 14 years in the 80's.
Black tourmalines are wonderful! 🖤
The indicolite is like a perfect colour match for windex, love that
Wow! These tourmaline specimens are unreal!! 😍😍
Y’all keep saying so many big and wild words that I don’t understand yet this was still cool to watch! Very interesting:)
Let us know if you have any questions!
Comment 809. Just missed 808, 909 is best tho. One of my favorite channels with some of the most enthusiastic people. 👍👍. That Paribas makes me think of the rediscovered beryl mines in Columbia.
I like the watermelon 🍉 one.. but kindly also mention it cost.
To pick a favorite Tourmaline, it would have to be the Blue Cap Tourmalines, from So California's Tourmaline Queen Mine in Pala, Ca. They have been amazing, and I live in the area, so that makes it all more interesting to me.
finally another gemologist vs geologist!! i've been waiting so long!!!
Dravite is my favorite variety of Tourmaline! I would freak if I were able to get my hands on a specimen that large.
The kitchen-sink-cookie is such a great metaphor 😂
I have an oval bi-color tourmaline that is pink and greyish brown. I bought it at a gem show then had it set into a rose gold setting with pink sapphires on either side. I got the setting from JTV online. It's one of my favorite rings! I love bi-color stones. 💖💖💖
Hi from Maine! Here in Maine we’ve actually got a Maine specific variety of tourmaline which is referred to as “Maine Tourmaline”; the name usually refers to any crystalline with a Deep-greenish blue (which can come in Watermelon tourmaline variety) it is extremely expensive also.
Fascinating episode, jam packed with interesting info about tourmaline! 💗
I truly Love Tourmaline, I have a nice collection, and will try and always keep finding new, Tourmaline pieces 🎶⭐..
It's so hard to pick a favourite, I find myself torn between;
Liddicoatite for the wonderful colours and zoning.
Uvite for their atypical growth habits, in particular the flattened bipyramidal forms.
Foitite for their unusual terminations.
Amazing! Such a beautiful mineral, i love it! Also love the way you guys talk us through what we see, i learn allot! Thank you! :)
Another cute video. She's super smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you people.
I just found this channel and I've been watching your stuff all weekend I love it 😍
One of my favorites as well. I have a dark green tourmaline that actually has red sparkles in it somehow. Never seen anything like it.
Black tourmaline had to be one of my favorites🖤🖤
My favorite piece was definitely the one with the huge triangle interior. 💚
The cotton candy tourmaline is one of my favorites as well as the indicolite 💙
I LOVE THESE GEMOLOGIST VS GEOLOGIST VIDEOS!!!
Common in my native state of Maine. I used to collect small examples of tourmaline and garnets in a WWII mica mine.
i love the Gemologist vs. Geologist videos!!!!!!
In the metaphysical community black tourmaline is one of the most protective stones. It allegedly blocks negative energy and negative entities. People will frequently wear it or use pieces to grid their homes ie put stones in all the major corners to energetically build a fence to guard against spiritual nasties. Also 108 beads are used to make Buddhist malas (like a rosary but used to count recitations of mantra). It doesn't look that great faceted or cabbed but strings of beads look very elegant and it can be used as spiritual protection!
I love tourmaline and other multi color gemstones. But I've never seen the gorgeous pastel one before. Cotton candy is a perfect moniker.
I live in California and hope to get to the tourmaline mines.
When you think you know alot about tourmaline and then learn something new! I have a specimen that is a bluish tourmaline growing in rainbow moonstone. It's super gorgeous. And I lucked out because it was in a store sold and priced just as rainbow moonstone
That sounds amazing!!
Indicolite Tourmaline is my favorite!!!!
My favorite mineral, I love all the many shapes & colors of tourmaline! A fascinating mineral. Black tourmaline is not really black, it has such a density of colors that it appears black. If you cut it into thin slices, it shows that it is very colorful...😉
WOW!!! I learned a lot from you gals...I even own a tiny sparkling gem of 'cotton candy' tourmaline...didn't know it went by that name...now I do...thank you!!! 💗💗💗
Been collecting them for many years my favorite gym by far
So cool. I love these videos so much. Thank you so much!! I share your utube often!
My favorite is the fuchsia pink /rubellite tourmaline.
Thank you so much!!! 💎💜
Indicolite is my fav.
Eyy Maine State gemstone represented!
Stunning 😊
Really nice and informing. I enjoyed your video very much and learnt a lot.
this is my favorite video. ever.
The geologist is lovely
Love it all !!
These are amazing. Can someone explain why iron gives green color?. As far as I know iron usually gives shades of red to pink. Why did it cause green coloration in this tourmaline?
Tourmaline is so pretty
They all win!
I know Rebecca has been waiting for this video 😂
GODS I LOVE TOURMALINE!!!! My favorite mineral of ALL time is black tourmaline AKA schorl
You had my heart at liddicoatite 💕🔽
Very cool thank you.
🤩🤩🤩🤩 blue tourmaliiiine
Do Larimar!!!
Can you do a video about orange colored gemstones ?
As a mineral collector/cutter I want to know what they treated those crystals with before slicing them, reconstructing them or afterwards in polishing if they used a wire saw for the cracks. As in any and all treatments need disclosed to others later.
Can you do an advise awareness about gemstone pricing, thanks 🙏🏻
Brittany is the most LAID BACK geologist and possibly human on earth.... nicknamed "Soma" a smile like the "CAT that ATE the HOUSE"
So the stones are just very beautiful you have a nice investment and work and a very good profit in the whole United States well done to you really happy to see it
I'm sadly missing tourmaline from my collection. But I will get some. Soon .
São lindas 👉✌☝️☝️☝️👈😍
Astounding.
Awesome episode. My favorite trash can. =D
How do you differentiate them from quartz? I guess there must be some obvious tells, but for a newbie, what would be the first thing to check for? Also, I found a lump of stone I have with a small golden nugget, it could be pyrite, but it's so yellow and also, I found it in a zone where there could be gold. with such a small piece, will I ever be ale to tell if I found myself a tiny gold speck?
The first thing to check would probably be the striations running down the length of the crystal. These are numerous and pretty common on tourmaline but less of a feature on quartz. Also, the sides of tourmaline are often rounded or convex, whereas quartz usually are not.
I have Chrome tourmaline... Colour changing...
Whomever marketed Paraiba did an amazing job because it's just blue tourmaline and yet they somehow get a premium over other blue tourmaline.
How do you get a slice...with stuff growing on it?
You buy it....
Or mine it
Thank you!!!
This is new interest for me and I appreciate you both sharing your knowledge. Where are the boxes (which you are unboxing) coming from? do you belong to a club or something with which you receive regular shipments? I'd rather you didn't have the music overlay as it competes with your voices and inasmuch as it's somewhat technical information, I found the music distracting and interfering with my learning experience. Thank you nonetheless.
I certainly look forward to your responses.
We wish there was a club that would send us these gems! Most of the specimens come from our company's collection. Many others are kindly loaned by friends of the channel. Welcome!
@@gems so. the company is Gemstones?
We’re gemstones.com and our chief aim is education…but we share a parent company with JTV, one of the largest retailers of jewelry and gems.
@@gems Thank you.
Yeah, but the z axis can also produce different colors. I have a facetted green tourmaline where if you look down the end...it's mint green
Afganistan?
Lovely!
You have really great music!
Thanks!
Tourmaline is the diamond of the future. Mark my words
Watermelon is nuts
