One tiny seed starts the whole journey mate. 1 seed can feed a nation or provide Scott with Papricka

If you could only choose 1 seed to feed the masses, what would it be? I choose Hemp.

In the same breath, a single seed (like foreign invasive Garlic mustard, or honeysuckle bush) can destroy a whole native population of plants. So clean those boot soles people before walking / hiking etc.. in parks, preservation reserves and our forests etc….

Zone 8 NC coast here. We grew Lesya last year and it's now our staple sweet pepper. It was the first to get peppers and the last to take pest damage. Maybe it was luck but we really enjoyed those plants🤓 Good luck to you with single seed!

I grew 9 paprika pepper plants last year. Some were smoked, freeze dried then powdered. Both are delicious, the smoked and the “plain”. First year we’ve tried it. We were spending a lot of money on smoked paprika! We ended up with about 2 lbs of smoked paprika and about 17 oz of plain paprika. I saved some of the seeds because they were expensive, for seeds. I think 20 seeds were almost $6!

Make sure to smoke some for sure! Just a lfew hours then dehydrated to finish. Same for Jalopenos, chipolte-baybeee!

Totally agree with smoking the peppers. A staple in spanish cuisine! Paella, patatas a la riojana, patatas bravas…

My wife picked up a pack of Granny Smith Hybrid tomato seeds at a swap a few weeks back. I looked on the back and they were from 2008. So I planted them. About 8 of them have germinated! 16 year old seeds. Pretty cool I thought.

Scott, I have been growing a Hungarian paprika from Baker Creek for years which is phenomenal. I discovered that it goes amazing with Chimayo peppers from Chimayo NM, and also a Tunisian roasting pepper. If you're interested in the specific varieties I'll dig them out of my seed library and I'll even give you my savory chili corned beef recipe if you're interested. Not trying to boast but it's the best I've ever had 👍👍

I got paprika from Budapest years ago while there and was how introduced. Before I started really gardening), I love it and since then put it on many dishes. It’s amazing that now I can grow it, when before gardening would never even be a thought .. the blessings of gardening!

Hi Scott. I’ve been involved with some variety trials in the past and have been blown away by the differences between plants even when they are right next to each other. I love the idea of choosing one seed to follow so closely though. Great concept. Steph - Australia :)

I grow Leutschauer Paprika (Hungarian), dry and ground it for the past 3 years. My husband loves it so much that it seems like I can't grow enough of it. You're going to love it! I might partake this year but on TikTok, same handle.

I've been drying Lesya peppers to make powder for the last 2 years. It is wonderfully flavourful. It also freezes well, great to add to sauces over winter. #1 on my regrow list.

I have been doing the Single Seed Challenge for four years now, and it is more exciting each year as I select my seeds (I typically do one vegetable and one flower). This year I am starting a Cream Sausage Tomato seed from MIGardener, and a Five-Spot flower from Livingston Seed (found at my local Rural King store). I keep a simple journal as I observe the life of these SSC seeds. I agree that this process is a valuable learning experience.

I couldn’t get the Alma and didn’t want to pay for shipping just that and I was Thrilled to see I had the Hungarian Paprika!
So I will grow along as well!
Just watched live chat you were in from Growup and enjoyed the jiving. Very light hearted and all good sports.
We are all chomping at the bit if spring will get here. Over 60 degree days in WI and a dusting of snow and back to 60s.

Very interesting challenge. In cannabis farming we already observe this challenge constantly. We treat our plants as individuals and pay a lot of attention. Maybe too much 😂 But everything you said rings very true for me as a Cannabis farmer.
