The stories are presented in a chronological order.
There are footnotes by S T Joshi throughout the book.
Otherwise, thank you so much for watching!

I grabbed mine army local Barbs & Noble because sometimes there are flaws in the leather. Example when I was buying mine I grabbed the copy at the bottom of the stack because it clearly had no defects, while the one on top had the cosmos image too off center. Just be aware that ordering one online may or may not guarantee it being perfect or not, overall I’d say this and the copy of the complete Cthulhu mythos are well worth both getting.

I got the entire narrative in my native language. Even tho the translators tried to adapt some parts to maintain the original writing as much as they could (Zadok in The Shadow Over Innsmouth speaks like an andalusian lol), I knew reading it in it's original language would be far more satisfying. I'll definitively get this book the next month.

Interesting to note that they removed the 'about the author' section which although listed on the contents page of the edition i have (which is the same as this one in every other respect) is totally missing!

We need an actual complete works of everything Lovecraft touched and all the stories that others finished for him. Like The Curse of Yig isn't in this one so technically its not "complete". I'd like to own one book of everything instead of 2-4 with 1 or 2 stories that are in one but not the others.

I was just wondering about this. I’d like to start reading his stories to prepare for a future book I plan to write. It would be nice if I could get a single volume of everything he’s ever written. I’m not clear on how I should start collecting his work.

It's the second edition and it still has typos and is missing stories. I have the "Chartwell Classics" edition which has more stories (I did a quick comparison of the table of contents of both books) but not that nice a cover. It was published in 2016. However, it's superior for the two reasons I mentioned even though there's no Joshi intro..

I'm sorry for this awfully late reply! This channel is not my main channel on RUclips and I pretty much forgot about it. If you want everything written by Lovecraft then you would have to complement that edition with either some 'The Complete Fiction' edition like the one showed here or maybe the Knickerbocker Classics Edition, and also get 'Collected Fiction Volume 4 (Revisions and Collaborations): A Variorum Edition' from Hippocampus Press (www.hippocampuspress.com), unless you are okay with hunting down his collaborations on the Internet (which I did). I hope that helped! :) Sorry once again for the late reply.

    • @ishtarian

That depends on what you mean by complete. This contains all HPL's *original* fiction -- the work he did entirely on his own, plus the story he collaborated on with E. Hoffmann Price, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key", and the piece of ghost-wrote for Harry Houdini, "Under the Pyramids" (a.k.a. "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs", a title given it by the editor; HPL's own title was the first given here). His other collaborations/revisions, however, are not included. Those have been released in several different editions, from Arkham House to a two-volume annotated edition (which, unfortunately, does include some notable typos here and there, though not an overwhelming number) from Arcane Wisdom press -- though this latter is, I believe, out of print. The most accessible would be either the Arkham House hardbound "The Horror in the Museum and Other Revisions", or its trade paperback reprint. These stories are either true collaborations or, in many cases, stories which Lovecraft wrote entirely, but from suggestions or brief descriptions of the purported writers. Many of these are of lesser value, but some, such as "The Mound" (based on a VERY brief description by Zealia Bishop, but one of his longest novellas, being slightly longer than "The Whisperer in Darkness") are major entries in the Lovecraft canon.

The Necronomicon is just a short 2 paged story with a brief history of its creation. The entirety of the idea of the Necronomicon is just complete myth and left to the reader's imagination. Its a plot device and has never been really officially made. But Lovecraft did write that short story, but that and references to the book is all there really is of the fictional book.

I love Lovecraft, but the book binding is cheap 'bonded leather; not real leather.. Bonded leather contains less than 20% real leather. It is paper thin and is finite, it scratches easily and has a short shelf life. They used to make quality books with either real cloth or genuine leather, but that would cost a fortune now. I don't buy new books, they are cheaply made of cheap materials and won't last. If you can, buy vintage copies - or first editions if you can afford them, they are made of quality materIals. Barnes & Noble made books are essentially crap, I won't buy them, they are very poorly bound and they have poor resale value.
