Great video as always, Ralfy! I'm pretty new to whisky drinking, and I just wanted to say how happy I am that found your channel. Your videos are always very educational with interesting stories, and I've learned so many things about whisky and the art of tasting it after watching just a handful of your videos. Keep up the great work!
This channel was already operating at an impressive peak, then comes a discussion of whiskey and psilocybin and BAM! new peak achieved! Break on through!
I visited sky before they build the bridge and the ferry was a real experience to get you car onto, you had to reverse on and go with the with the waves or you'd get jammed , but i loved it very much to me it's a mystical place. I have also visited pitlochry which is as you say beautiful as with much of scotland which i think is a wonderful place. Wonderful history very interesting indeed. Thanks Ralfy
This is one of my fav's and I have to say I am so glad I went to some struggle to get it. What I wonder is what sherry did they use because its not clear.
Bought this straight after watching this review. Now re-watching the review with a dram of the same Whisky. Holy cow, he's right, this is something very unique! The arrival is so strong and measured with amazing liquorice and sour cherries with a syrupy consistency. I get the sense of good french sauternes and a spicy oak influence. Sour cherry and condensed mandarin orange on the finish.
Amazing review as always Ralfy. Speaking of Edradour, I've recently come across and purchased a single bottle of Edradour 12yo Caledonia for what I thought was a very decent price in a local liquor store which doesn't carry much whisky at all. Mostly a wine shop really. I found it to be fantastic (as far as my spirit-newbie taste whose favorite malt up til then was probably Glenlivet or Cardhu 12yo - cost is very much a deal breaker for me). It was very much your reviews that drew me to it as, similar to this Fairy Flag bottling, it's natural color, unchillfiltered and bottled at 46% (so, check, check and check as far as Ralfy's theory of craft presentation is concerned). I was wondering if you've ever had the chance to try the 12yo Edradour Caledonia bottling?
Terrific review Ralfy! I doubt I'll be able to find this one but you can rest assure I'll try. When my son toured Scotland back in 1998 he brought me back a beautifully etched shot glass from the Edradour Distillary, a real keepsake! Take care, Ossie
thanks Ralfy, I've seen the Fairy Flag and been to Edradour to take the tour. I bought a bottle of Tuscan wine barrel aged Edradour but haven't opened it. I do not remember seeing Edradour Fairy Flag, I was there in October 2016.
Hi Ralfy, at whiskybase several reviews mention a distinct, quite off-putting soapiness present in this malt. Since it's been around since 2014 and still available in substantial quantities (for Edradour, that is), could there be batch variation? If so, is there possibly a bottle code to share?
Love Edradour, especially the Ballechin 10 which is also UCF & NC. One of my favourite distilleries, has a genunie craft feel to it. Only negative I have about the distillery is that they charged us £2 for our child to spend a much needed penny (while I was spending £60 in the shop)! Mr Symington might want to rethink that one...
Ralfy, thank you for your reviews! I get much pleasure and information following your reviews. I have a question. What is the difference between letting your dram sit for a while without it being covered in the glass vs. covering the glass. Is not covering the glass mimicking it being in a closed bottle that has already been opened. If you're going to let the air get at it allow it to oxidize and open up, should you not cover the glass while waiting.
Awesome, got me a bottle in the post, it can tango with the sherry monster 10 yo version of this- signatory ncf range ( who i believe also own the distillery these days) With a sneaky glengoyne cask strength and an ancnoc 18. Yum yum. Thanks in advance for the tip, would have overlooked this.
Yes it does sound appetizing because I like earthy flavors and I'm not into sweet. I'll try the 12 first and move to this one some time. Totally interested in searching for the fudge you mentioned in the 12 and the chocolate in this one, and not to mention the rest of the savory notes. Edradour Caledonia sounds like my type of scotch!
Caraway seeds are traditional in Pennsylvania rye bread, but i hear not traditional in central and eastern europe. Ralfy it's interestingly that you mention it. I work with a Russian from Latvia (yes ethnic Russian born in Latvia) that tells me the black bread is what he misses most. He loves America, and unfortunately his favorite drink is fireball.
At last - Ralfy reviews an Edradour. I was beginning to suspect that you didn't like their output.I like the intense floral character of the 10 YO and the 12 YO Oloroso Casked 'Caledonian' is fine as well - the sherried casking has been done to just the right intensity so that if you take your time with it then the floral nature gently breaks through...but only just.
I said a few videos back that this was an exquisite whisky, glad see that you enjoyed it. I must say it has a great mouthfeel certainly one of the best I've experienced. Are you going to review a Balblair 05 or Balblair in general soon Ralf?
pixlplague edradour 10 was on shelves in Winnipeg last summer when I was visiting home. If you live close to the boarder there should be a place you can get it sent and then pick it up or get it repackaged and sent to you. Short of that, join a community and befriend souls in Scotland with paypal you can send some cash and have them send it to you direct.
91/100 for the Eradour 15 several days after an 87/100 for Bunnahabhain 18? I understand your approach to "marks" Ralfy, but on occasion it's difficult not feel as though some of these distillers are not being reward for the extent to which they are willing to depart from the main. That's not a terrible thing, but it can make it challenging to know how to apply some of this input into buying decisions.
gabrielgv0619 read and watch reviews from all over the place. It's astonishing how much comparison I made between two successive offerings of Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength (batch 7 and 6) from everyone online who reviewed them. We work hard for our money, so our purchases of whisky should be smart.
Well, that's new, a decent dram from Edradour. For all of you here rushing to buy the standard bottlings, just a warning: this must be anomaly ;). The usual Edradour is not really spectacular.
Ps is it finlaggan you thinking about and I believe that you have reviews that twice iam half way through a bottle of the sherry finish quite nice art it a bad so it be finlaggan
Oh yeah. I think the style is originally from Germany. It's popular in the Toronto area because of the high Eastern European influence on food. It is marked as caraway rye because every type rye is sold here. It a fun time getting rounded out of a Bier Market after to much dunkel, pork, pickled food and schnapps.
I'm going to be in London next week and am thinking about the bottles to take home with me. I have to choose only four of these: So far my wish ist is: Caol Ila 18, Balblair 2005 Bourbon Cask (1st or 2nd Relase), Ballechin 6th Release / Bourbon Cask Matured Edradour 2006 10 Year Old Bourbon Cask Benriach 1997 / 18 Year Old / Bourbon Barrel / Cask #85089 Benriach 1994 / 19 Year Old / Cask #286 Kilchoman Original Cask Strength Quarter Cask 2010 Kilchoman 2008 Vintage 7 YO Lagavulin 12 YO 16th Rel Special Releases 2016 Bruichladdich Islay Barley Rockside Farm 2007 Bruichladdich Laddie Classic 16 Year Old Decisions decisions.....
It's a good point. First, for religious reasons, I only drink non-sherried whiskies so only Ex-Bourbon/Ex-Rum/Virgin oak are on my radar. Out of the very few Ex-Bourbon Springbanks, they are very expensive. The Springbank Green 12 YO Ex-Bourbon is £120. I did buy a few years ago a Kilkerran Glengyle (Springbank) Ex-Bourbon Work in Progress but was not impressed.
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but being a graphic designer that label is awfully designed. I'll never purchase this one. And I'll never get to taste this one sadly:)
After your review, Erdradour distillery's website cannot handle the increased traffic from people curious about it.
Great video as always, Ralfy! I'm pretty new to whisky drinking, and I just wanted to say how happy I am that found your channel. I just came back to this review after a few weeks. I think this might be the best review you've ever done. Ralfy, the Master Malt Storyteller!!
This channel was already operating at an impressive peak, then comes a discussion of whiskey and psilocybin and BAM! new peak achieved! Break on through!
What birds are flying near the bothy are they Swallows or Swifts.....sound nice in the back ground.......or are they the little people ?????
. . . blackbirds and . . . the little people too.
Best put a dram out just to be on the safe side Ralfy......🤔🤔😇😇
You broke Edradour's website, Ralfy! It can't handle the traffic you've sent their way.
Ralfy i brought a bottle 2yrs ago and i can't bare to open it up lol. The aroma coming from the container is awesome!
I enjoyed your fairy folk lesson I may leave out a glass... since I am in the U.S. I hope they enjoy bourbon.

Edradour is a fav of mine , i like the sftc ones

Fascinating. Details add another dimension.

Really like the 21 yo Sherry finish. Have to try the Ballechin. Which would you recommend.
Nice to watch a happy and interesting review first for a while thanks
Yet another splendid malt mirth moment :)

Sounds great Ralfy, have not see this one. And all the Celtic areas you mentioned, have their version of bagpipes. Whisky & Bagpipes!
Thanks for this fairy part, makes you think about reality and different perceptions of it.

Finlaggan, Islay. On the left hand side on your way to Caol Ila and Port Askaig.
I thoroughly enjoyed the stories, Ralfy... Thanks!
Is it just me who's loving the birdsong in the background of the last few vlogs? 😂

Taste!! Oh yes.. Sounds a lot better!! An equation that leads to a sweet dram.. Sour and salty.. Thanks beautiful. Cant wait to get a dram.
Thanks for the review being to, Pitlochry, but sadly not The Distillery. I will keep an eye out for this one Ralfy,
Two more years have passed and I'm still holding onto my bottle and I can't find a back-up bottle anywhere online at all lol, so strange.......
@MontalbanJR lol I started working on it a few weeks ago. Sooooo glad I did, wonderful stuff brother.
Nice history lesson.!
✌🏼🇱🇺
I feel sorry for u man..
😂😂😂
You knew it was only a question of time before Ralphy discussed magic mushrooms.
Caraway seeds are traditional in Pennsylvania rye bread, but i hear not traditional in central and eastern europe. Ralfy

Ty Hargett very common in Danish rye, Danish cheese and Danish Akvavit!
I can't wait for the next release of this !! I hope it will be slightly bigger...
Outstanding review, Ralfy!
another top review👍
Never seen you take so many sips during a tasting. Good review, love this one myself.

I have 1/3 of a bottle left and I drink a dram a year.
Great review.... still awaiting some of that fine dusty stuff.....from the undertakers stash
What a fantastic 25 minutes, thank you.
I said a few videos back that this was an exquisite whisky, glad see that you enjoyed it. I must say it has a great mouthfeel certainly one of the best I've experienced. Are you going to review a Balblair 05 or Balblair in general soon Ralf?
Love the commentary and stories 👍
I need me this bottle bad. Edradour is my favourite distillery, but they don't export to Canada! Ralfy, know any way I can get my hands on this?
I'll try again, but two years ago I couldn't get it shipped here, only UK/EU...

WhiskyWhistle seriously?! That's awesome. But I only have access to Ontario and Québec... I'll check again with them thanks!
Ralfy really is the Most Interesting Man in the World.
Ralfy are you going to review any Crown Royal products in the future
. . . not for a while yet, but they are planned at some stage.

Perhaps the fairies had some influence on the malt ;)
Well, that's new, a decent dram from Edradour. For all of you here rushing to buy the standard bottlings, just a warning:

Hello ralfy ! How about to make a review of Ouzo drink , the national drink of greece ? :)
Ps is it finlaggan you thinking about and I believe that you have reviews that twice iam half way through a bottle of the sherry finish quite nice art it a bad so it be finlaggan
Not sure if it justified spending £80 on this.
Love a good Rye, especially PEI rye. But damn you if caraway is added. Just ruins it.
eric gilbert do they do that?? Caraway is the main flavour in Danish/Swedish Akvavit
Oh yeah. I think the style is originally from Germany. It's popular in the Toronto area because of the high Eastern European influence on food.
