- Is British Airways business class / club world, even worth it anymore? With so many planes still having the 'old' club seats, with no direct aisle access, and a very old seat.. is it worth paying thousands for?
Today I review the BA 'luxury' business class from London Gatwick to MCO Orlando Florida. Come with me on holiday with a fun review of the airport and my very expensive plane ticket! Would you pay cash for this?

I don’t think you’re wrong to point out that the seat was dirty. When I pay £3-4k for a seat I expect quality, good service and cleanliness. And climbing over someone is unacceptable these days. I try and avoid BA as their product is poor for the price point .
I do not know if you will see this but I agree 100%. I used to travel "Business Class" in the late 1990s and things were FAR BETTER, to be honest, I never fly with BA but with Malaysia Airlines, Qantas and American Airlines and everything was very nice. The most important feature was the amount of SPACE that you enjoyed; obviously, most airlines are now cutting corners in the most shameful way!

Possibly one shouldn't be at all surprised that British Airways introduce new passengers to dirty aircraft. However, is that really the standard that can be expected of a 'leader in international air travel'?
Personally I'm rather more saddened by such unexpected squalor, than actually shocked.
The cheap end of the market, in air transport providers, are the true aircraft 'turn around' specialists with barely enough time for re-fuelling and safety checks, plus just 20 minutes passenger boarding time allocated before taking off again. (Yes, a plane on the ground is not earning money. . .)
It really isn't expected of the mighty and exalted British Airways, to rival the 'cattle herders' of air travel, but this must be what is now 'Brave New World', so suck it up and enjoy paying thousands of £££sss for the privilege of wallowing in a sty and a trough in the sky.
When you say you are 'very, very lucky', I hope you don't feel guilty. You are sharing your experience with many thousands of people, including someone like me who is very grateful

As someone who can’t fly anywhere anymore due to health and financial reasons, 😢 to you I say, enjoy every moment of travel and holidaying that you can now. Don’t feel guilty of anything you get to experience. As others have said I too am enjoying experiencing this through your vlogs. Qatar Business Class is insane. Took an upgrade with them a few years back and you are treated like royalty as soon as you get on the plane. Nice to see someone with the same surname doing flight reviews too

I last flew in 1986 and will never do so again (financial and medical reasons). I am not bothered about this but I am so pleased that people like Hannah post videos which I can watch and enjoy. Really grateful.
I'll tell you what Paul, flying hasn't gotten better since 1986. It used to be quite a bit more comfortable back then. All the best.

This is the old BA Business Class cabin. They have introduced the Club World Suite on the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787-10 , which are more modern and spacious.
I'll be honest I'm glad I've watched this. We go to Florida on November 26th, I was going to upgrade to business but theres no chance I'm spending that amount to scramble over someone's legs and feel like I'm sitting in a broom cupboard. Great video, thank you!
I am an easygoing gal, but that level of grime and crammed configuration is outrageous considering the cost. You were very generous and I can tell you’re mindful of people watching who may be stuck in economy. This is a business class experience I’d expect to see if a discount carrier introduced a lie flat product. I’m glad the food was great! Excellent video - have fun in Orlando!

As an Aussie who is used to paying outrageously high $ for everything here in Aus, the level of cleanliness was poor. For that ⬆️$ I’d expect exceptional cleanliness
Someone once said to me that we've forgotten that airplane travel is a feat of engineering! Always check the configuration on the planes before you book. This is an old configuration on many airlines for 767/777 - the airbus 380 is better (unless you need the bassinet then it's a nightmare). And pick your seats. When you're window side you have more privacy and less disruption but it is harder to get out. But anyone on the aisle side knows that if they've flown business. If you're not planning on sleeping Prem Econ is a very good deal!

First video by this lady that I've ever seen. I liked it. Low-key, but interesting content. Didn't criticise BA too harshly for the dirty plane. Pleasant attitude almost smoothed over the indifferent presentation by BA. The staff also received deserved praise. All round designed to not upset the apple cart too much. Very diplomatic!
I flew BA business, return to Las Vegas from Heathrow in November. I thought it was excellent and I managed to sleep through almost the entire return leg, which is the main reason for paying the extra.
I was speaking to a very nice fun lady yesterday in our local Michigan grocery store who upon recognizing I had a British accent announced she watched Hannah Ricketts on you tube. We do too, my wife and and I responded. She then went on to talk about how you inspired her to do Teas. Hannah is making a difference in the world. By the way, the lady thought you and I sounded the same. I am a Geordie who has lived in the USA for 24 years, I am not sure we sound exactly alike.

Funny story my husband was attending a conference in Orlando for Educational reasons. When leaving he and his friend had rented a car and we’re returning to the Airport they thought. 😂 By accident they were in traffic to Disney World 🙃. Eventually they turned around and reached the plane in time but watching today you entering Disney it brought a smile and a laugh. Unfortunately he died in 2011 but things I see or watch bring so many memories. Thanks for this and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen seats like that before. The difference between UK and USA. Loved it.

Having worked for BA for years i've flown club dozens of times, I have to say that the best business class i've ever flown was Air Belgium! They had a really weird seating arrangement where your feet went into a sort of box in the seat in front, it sounds odd , but it meant you did not have to clamber over the person behind, or sit staring at a complete stranger through the partition.
So, you'll know this is an old product that is being retired!

Flew Business Class with my mother from LHR to Corfu in June - the crew and the aeroplane going out were incredible, lovely people, modern plane, superb service. Coming back, our flight was cancelled, no notice, and no information. They flew us back Finnair, and they were wonderful!

Saturday morning in Mel. Australia. Watching Hannah with a travel blog, I'm in heaven. I am going to splurge on a once in a life time business class to Paris to see family. All your fault Hannah I want to experience this once. I've just retired and think now is the time. As you say" first world problems" I'm so blessed. I am trying to wangle a week in London only so that I can visit all my favourite Hannah places... might need two weeks actually. Thank you for making my retirement full of ideas and making planning my walks around Melbourne so much fun.

The Club lounge looked better than the tired lounge at Heathrow. Have given up on BA Business Class particularly to Orlando. Seating when converted to a bed is comfortable but pre flight and flight service is just OK.Switched to another British airline and will not return to BA Business. For the price cabin needs improving.
I did BA Business Class Austin - London in September in the Airbus A350-1000 and I loved it. Great 1-2-1 configuration with the privacy door. Lots of space with 2 full windows in 9A and 9K. The food was great and the filet was one of the best I’ve ever had. LOVED the White Company pillow and the bedding was very nice. Lay flat bed was very spacious. Wine selection was nice but very skimpy beer offerings. All in all, very nice experience!
A Transatlantic high five from another airport dad! The peace and quiet of the lounge looked great, especially early in the morning. Thank you, Hannah, for filming and sharing this! Always a wonderful Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday morning treat.
Great review. 😁 You went through so many details I feel those 'professional' flight reviewers tend to take for granted on these business class flights. Also, I wouldn't be too hard on BA's old business class. Even Qatar isn't flying their Q-Suites on every route.
I'd agree with that. I recently flew Qatar from Seoul via Doha to London, and the first leg in Q-Suite was *amazing*, but the second leg was more or less the same quality as this. Although they did have a nice bar you could walk to 🙂
The other thing with Qatar is their equipment changes, you might think you're getting Q-Suites but it's a bit of a gamble until you actually step foot on the plane
I’ve never quite managed to get my head around the whole applause thing on landing! I once flew an internal flight to Cairo on Egyptair and when we finally touched down the whole aircraft erupted in paroxysms of joy and euphoria. Cheering, clapping…the full package of delights. Could it be that applause is just an expression of relief for having arrived in one piece? Who knows! Anyway, an enjoyable and entertaining vlog from you and having just subscribed, I’ll gleefully now delve into your other content.
People are just glad their plane didn’t crash. Imagine making a crash landing in the middle of the ocean during a stormy chilly night. Hence the applause

Haha… my husband is a pilot on American Airlines and it is very common for passengers to clap 👏 at landing to say thank you 😊

I haven't flown first class or business class since before there were sleeper seats! The only flying I do these days is in economy (or some version of it) as I would rather spend my money differently , but I have to say, I have flown Virgin Atlantic on my last three flights from the US to UK and was really impressed. Even in Economy they still gave out amenity packs, blankets, etc. , free drinks, good food. The cabin crew on all of the flight were great . I vowed never to fly BA again many years ago. Once, when traveling with my husband and son (who was 4 years old, and a seasoned traveller as we lived in Australia and flew back and forth to the US often) we were stuck on the tarmac for several hours and the staff was horrendous. One of the crew actually slapped my hand when I reached for a cookie that they were handing out (while still on the ground), and told me they were only for the children. I think these days if that happened you would probably sue the airline! All in all, flying is nowhere near the experience it was in the past - and not something I enjoy. This was fascinating - thanks!

Climbing over someone to get to your seat is beyond strange they have to refigure that design in newer planes. I like to clap at the end of flights I think its more a thank you to the pilot for a safe flight the clap is like a big sigh of relief lol

Nothing like a good Hannah travel vlog! I'm no vlog expert, but don't throw shade on your own early videos. I still think they were great, and loved watching them way back when.
Stayed in a Bloc hotel (can’t remember which airport), a couple of years back. It was right in the terminal, which was really good for an early flight. You got a view of the runway, yet it was totally silent in the room, which is impressive. I would 100% do again. They always seem to have offers on, so it’s not as expensive as you think. Bonus was that as they aren’t everywhere like Premier Inn, it felt a bit more exciting!

Being 6'7'' any upgrade from Economy is so much appreciated. I always feel so sorry for anyone sitting in front of me in Economy as they have no chance of reclining their seat, and it feels like BA are shrinking the space between their seats.

I agree this configuration is really unacceptable these days for business class prices. There are so many better options available with aisle access from every seat.
I was BA Gold for many years but personally I feel BA are now far down the pack. Personally I swapped my allegiance to AF/KLM. You should try AF long haul business class, much better than BA.

Pre COVID I got a round the world ticket with numerous stop offs. All with scheduled airlines economy for just over 3k....makes one think about the cost. Enjoying the content👍
I’ve got to say flying backwards sounds a bit weird to me having never done it. Also, don’t ever stop to think about how the plane stays in the air, it’s enough to know it just does! Last point, cream then jam on the scone. Great vid Hannah, cheered me up on a cold wet evening in the north west of England.
No! It is good to know how a plane stays in the air to reassure family members who are nervous fliers. Real basic physics-the shape of the wings ensures there is a different airspeed over the top of the wings compared to the bottom of the wings-this ensures there is a difference in pressure between the top and bottom of the wings so the plane is pushed upwards! e.g the plane flies.
@@ianharoldwithers1009 if you have nervous flyers in your party I doubt explaining the physics of air pressure is going to alleviate that but each to their own. Also I’d suggest doing that before the flight not at 30,000 ft like Hannah was, bless her.
I had the same thoughts about flying backwards before I did it, but it’s actually pretty cool. Also, the plane is pointing slightly up while cruising so flying backwards on a lie flat bed means your head is higher than your feet, so it’s better for sleeping than facing forwards (if that makes sense).

Hannah we flew with Emirates from South Africa via Dubai to Orlando last year Oct and the new terminal just opened. We waited 2 hours for our luggage to come through and there was no trolleys. It was a huge tour of 56 adults and 14/15 year olds. Was a journey and a half

We have recently travelled in BA Club World to the States (on miles like you) and as we travelled from Heathrow, we had the new Suites. So your criticism is absolutely fair as BA seem to think they don’t need to update the Gatwick aircraft. Goodness, the seat layout in their business class is just so awkward. I'm a flight attendant (with another airline) and just envisioning how uncomfortable it must be for everyone involved getting around, serving the food and beverages over people, eek. I certainly hope your next time flying them in business class, it's in a seat configuring that is more comfortable.

My family and I last flew BA in 2002, economy, NEVER again. The flight was delayed, we were escorted to a hotel about 11 pm. and then woken up at 6:00 am. to get on the replacement aeroplane!

Thanks Hannah - a very comprehensive review. As someone who has not flown BA for a number of years it looks like the soft product has indeed improved and the new Business Class cabin can only be an improvement on that old 777 "dorm" ... BA *may* be a consideration going forward. Airline cleanliness seems to be an endemic issue currently, I've just returned to Oz using a mix but including Finnair. Their seat was so filthy down to side I did fire off an enquiry to ask if they considered cleaning when they launched this seat a few years ago.

What a fun Hannah on Holiday Vlog!! Thank you for the tour of the lounge at Gatwick. It seems much more relaxed compared to Heathrow. It doesn’t seem like the ground crews ever have enough time to thoroughly clean every surface from the previous flight. The herringbone seating configuration on carriers like Cathay afford access to one’s seat without interrupting a cabin mate. Have a great time in MCO and WDW with your family! Looking forward to some video of you and your nieces in Toontown!
Cleanliness is very important to me. I could see the marks on the armrest and window. I had an experience on BA a few years ago. I did get quite ill which spoiled my holiday.

Hannah, I’ve stayed at the Bloc Hotel at Gatwick several times, including in July. I really like it. Even if you are flying Economy or Premium Economy (like me), you can use the Priority Security which is just outside the Bloc.
I’m only halfway through your review. The BA Lounge looked great. I probably wouldn’t spend the money (unless I used miles) to fly business class but it looks nice.

I flew BA business in 2022 to Tampa and Virgin Upper to MCO this year . Both cabin crew were exceptional, but preferred the BA food and seat configuration. I did choose seat 4A though so no need to step over anyone.
I know you’re not primary an airline reviewer. But out of those on RUclips who do review/Vlog, I generally find yours to be the best.

When it comes to older business class seats from Virgin and British, I’d take Virgin’s all day. I’ve flown Virgin’s older Herringbone configuration and it’s newer one and I’m fine with either one, I thought I wouldn’t like the older one but I liked it.
Great vlog Hannah, you have a new subscriber. We’ve stayed at BLOC in Gatwick and found it ideal for being at the airport the night before if you have to travel from a further distance like Manchester. 2 adults and 2 children in a room the size of a ships cabin was just what we needed. 9 hours sleep and a shower in the morning, a double bed and bunk beds for the children with a view of the planes airside. Passport control is just outside the hotel entrance so after checking our bags in the night before it was a breeze to leave your hotel room and go through security. I’m not a fan of the BA Business Class seating on your flight. It looked a bit constricting and having to pay for WiFi in Business Class! Looks like I now have a lot of your videos to watch 😂

I used to fly BA quite regularly while doing long distance with my wife between London and New York.
I was never that impressed with their service, in fact I was actually quite put off. This was approaching 5-7 years ago, so things may have changed, but their flights had no wifi, the food and drink service was poor (both in quality and frequency), and staff were often quite abrupt. I often felt like BA saw themselves as a prestige airline and so you should almost feel lucky to fly with them.
If I compare that to Air Lingus, Virgin Atlantic, and even American, they all offered better services. Flying BA felt like staying at a stately home that needed work.
Your comment does not surprise me, I never flew BA but I had an instinctive bad feeling towards that company. Like some British companies and persons, they believe they are a cut above the rest and you should be grateful they are talking to you.
Oh what a treat! Travelling with Hannah back to DISNEY. I’ve been lucky to have flown overnight in business and all pods are not equal for sure but I’ve never had to climb over someone! Weird. My best experience (and I’ve not flown the wonderful Asian ones) was Swiss Air. I swear there were only 10 of us up there in business Montreal to Zurich ….and I remember the table setting looked like a wine tasting with all the glasses lol. Special
Great video, Hannah. Video & audio was very good. I flew BA business class from California to London earlier this year. Different model of plane as the window seats all had two large storage bins between the seat and the window and could walk to seat without going over other passengers. Crew was very nice. Food was ok, not as nice as yours. Flight home was delayed an entire day so that whole experience was very disappointing. Always enjoy your vlogs.
Before Covid i worked for OCS and we cleaned the BA planes and Lounge! It's a shame to see the standards of cleanliness has declined since another company took over! The BA lounge i do miss cleaning and hasnt changed one bit! New to your channel and will definitely subscribe! 😁 x

Wow, what a great vlog Hannah, you edit so well, no wonder it takes ages! If you can afford it, or have offers, vouchers, air miles, whatever, go for it! What a great tip to stay in the Premier Inn the night before a morning flight. It takes all the stress out of getting there by cab after getting up at 4am. Definitely! Love your vlogs! I started watching you because of the London angle, but was so happy that you were also a Disney fan. Thanks for the travel and plane review, it helps a lot with decision making. :) The clotted cream was so proper, with the golden top, which is how it comes out of the pans after cooking. I prefer the clotted cream on the bottom and then the jam, but I understand those in Cornwall demand and swear by the opposite...cream on top. We love the Grand Floridian and you had a great room. Brave of you to go in August! Even us Floridians have a difficult time with that amount of heat and humidity. Can't wait 'til your next vlog!
Interesting! I am flying BA Business Class to Toronto in December but from Heathrow. I have never been to Gatwick. You had the old business seat configuration. The latest, which is in the A350, is much better. I didn't like the old one either. I agree with you. BA have changed direction lately and are now trying to revert to a quality airline after all the cutbacks in previos years.

Thank you, Hannah. For being brutally honest 😅 I 💯 agree on all those points you critiqued. My son and I flew BA economy this past May. It was cramped, but the service was impeccable and friendly, and they went beyond expectations. I love BA. As a Canadian, I prefer flying BA. Your comment about not getting the cheese board had me cracking up!! Well done ❤
BA staff in my experience are always wonderful, it's the bean counters that are the problem.
So interesting to see travel from London. I just stayed at the Swan for 2 nights on October 20th just to enjoy The Boardwalk and all the restaurants and a ride in the skyliner to The Riveria and then to Coco beach area for the week. We had just been in January for a stay at The Beach Club right by back entrance to Epcot. I just love the area by the Boardwalk so you can walk and enjoy so many things. So the January trip we went to 3 parks and did a monorail crawl and Disney Springs to Morimoto Asia and The Boat House and Wine Bar George. Then the second trip didn’t even go into the park just enjoyed everything around the Swan and there pool and all the amazing eating. The Flying Fish and IL Mulino the best !!!! There are so many ways to enjoy Disney🥰

Very happy for you Hannah. I know from the past that you’ve enjoyed Disney World for a long time and have been wondering when you’d make it back. Really enjoyed being able to see the whole experience from preflight to flight to landing (and I suppose some people might clap because they’re happy they’re finally on the ground and let the fun begin!). I could imagine the joy you felt riding in seeing sights you haven’t been able to see in a while and the anticipation of when you get to see your family. Looking forward to the rest of your holiday!
Thank you sweet Hannah for sharing all the details of your flight! I also would rather fly economy just to save money for something more fun. But, I would struggle on arrival with a sore neck trying to catch a wink or two. Filming the toilet made me laugh! Dining food looked much better than what I remember on my Delta flights to London from AL!. So glad you got to go to DW, as I often went as a child! Loved the vlog! Take care and safe travels back!

I flew with BA to Denver just a few weeks ago, LHR to DEN was Prem Economy, and the return to London (as overnight) was Club World (BA's Business Class). If I'm honest I was somewhat underwhelmed with the Club World flight back to the UK, the crew were kind of less enthusiastic, the service was nothing special, so all in all not a great impression was left with BA Club World. I'll stick with Prem Econ next time, or better still Virgin if flying to the West Coast. I just noticed that the Club World you flew on is the old product, perhaps because it's LGW?
