  • This is a VERY common problem with the K.J. grills. Be aware that they will tell you they've never heard of this issue, not true. Their customer support will also tell you to remove pictures and video of their product not working. I went through 3 warranty claims with their company before I gave up and grind down my own cap to get it working as it should. A $2,000 grill should come out of the box working, I should've just bought the cheap ceramic grill from sams club/walmart. God knows I've put so much work into this grill. Now I need to build a new stand as the one they include with the grill rusts out after only a few months of use. PLEASE heed my warning, YOU MAY THINK K.J. IS A GOOD DEAL BUT YOU WILL PAY FOR IT IN SUB-STANDARD MATERIALS AND UNPROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. LOOK AT OTHER BRANDS LIKE PRIMO OR BGE, DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. Here's another video of what your vent will look like after only 2 -3 uses • Kamado joe kontrol Tow...

Wow thanks for sharing guys. I have a classic 1 and am happy with the top vent. Was thinking to get the tower as a upgrade. Reading your comments, I'm good.

Very disappointed with my bran new one. $1101.00 on black Friday. The reason I got it was to have a better insulated BBQ, my old one I had to judge how much charcoal I need for the 2 stakes for me and my old lady. I just finished a " slow cook ribs". After 3 HR I run out of charcoal, What the hell I said. I saw I lot of videos here about "overnighters" cooks and I said.... you don't want to hear.
Touching the dome, one can't touch it being so hot. So much for the Ceramics insulation. Why did I replaced my old one?

I guess I’m lucky. Mine fits fine but has never stayed attached to the grill. It falls off when I take the cover off. It’s 4 months old. I dread to think what it will look like in 5 years.

You should try a Tip Top Temp if it's compatible. It practically automates temperature control.

very similar to me. I can only adjust the vent with 2 hands. It sticks very tight. My Joe's three weeks old.

That's KJ. After 3 vents I just grinded mine to work. Watch out for their customer service, they'll ask you to send photos then ask you to delete them. They don't want the bad press.

I hate my kamado joe grill. I have issues with the tower vent as well. Had the same issues with the "warranty" support. But, aside from that it just sucks. I have ruined more meat using it than all the other smokers I have ever had. It is way too finicky, and it will either go out sometime in the night if you choke it down too much or it will go up to 350-400 and make charcoal out of your meat before the morning comes. My advice is to steer clear of it if you primarily want a "low and slow" smoker. It's ok for high heat cooking like smash burgers or pizza. Give me back my weber smokey mountain....good results every time.

Ever since they sold out the quality is questionable. Hope the warranty is still handled and honored by the new conglomerate
