You should try it again John - it's a lot cheaper than using the car and does away with the parking problem. At our age of course the bus is free but it's uncomfortable and takes forever! Best wishes.
Great video output as always Tim. Good to see the Secretary of State for Scotland uses the train and not the plane ! Never used the lifts at Carlisle but what beautiful sandstone walls down in the bowls of the station - a semi hidden gem 😊. Cheers Euan
Thanks Euan. A great deal of work to be done down in the undercroft if that's to become the main entrance to the station. A lot of demolition outside too.
The 57s were definitely one of the better-looking diesel-electrics and - as 47s or 57s - gave sterling service over many years. There must be many other parts of the station that I just don't have access to - one of these days!!
the last time i was on that line was in 1966 when i did a aline rail rover from leeds on the 10.25 am leeds to glasgow via settle carlisle dumfries kilmarnock glasgow centrea got there at 14.55 good journey in them days and yes another great video from you Tim
Thank you. The journey is still possible of course, just in two sections which are timed so as never to coincide. The Scottish part of the trip will be in a noisy 156 unit, the Settle and Carlisle stretch in a. quieter air-conditioned 158 which frequently carries a refreshment trolley. It's still a journey worth doing despite the downgrading of the traction and stock since the 1960s.
I enjoyed the ride into Carlisle Lots has changed since I last went that way Carlisle still has a good number of locomotives. The train you went for looked good with all the blue grey stock as I remember was in that livery on most of my travels.
I first saw that blue/grey livery in 1964/5, my first year at college in Manchester. The new electrics were running between the renamed London Road station (now Piccadilly) and Euston wearing what came to be called Rail Blue. In the two-tone blue-grey it looked magnificent on the new locomotives and Mark 2 stock - it looked absolutely dreadful when splashed all-over on local multiple units and completely ruined the appearance of otherwise handsome machines like the Deltics when eventually forced on to them. One of these days I'll have to try filming the entire Dumfries to Carlisle journey. It'll probably require several trips to capture it all but might prove worthwhile. Best wishes.
@@schoolshorts I don't remember blue grey being hauled by steam but I have seen photos. The MK2 stock also carried maroon and Southern green livery. I was not impressed by the DMU's either except the Swindon built intercity units which had MK1 stock. Green always looked best on Deltics. In blue it ruined the look for me as well. I have not edited a full journey together because the daylight varies day to day, I think it would work OK though, I just take parts of my journey depending on how much battery I have left. I still have a few trips to edit. I only upload them as a filler when I have not been out anywhere.
Thank you Tim, I will have a look at The Branchline Society, I've not heard of it, and it was also good to see something of your regular journey south to Carlisle too.
The Branchline Society specialises in visiting little -used lines, sidings etc. - always good for something different. Glad you enjoyed the excerpt from my commute - not a lot of scenery but plenty of history!
The branch line train started its journey on Friday morning, to head north (and other areas of Scotland) from the Bo’ness & Kinneil railway station… much beer was consumed on the tour and supermarkets were emptied of real ales to top up supplies 🤣
Was it actually Alister Jack or just a lookalike? I didn't register him whilst filming and only spotted him during the editing process. In fact, I come under David Mundell, MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.

I find it mildly amusing that people take offence, or feel embarrassed, when a camera is turned onto them (the lady with the folded up wheelchair) when all around are ‘security cameras’ filming you while you are unaware.
The lady with the wheelchair is Avanti staff, on her way to proffer assistance on Platform 3. She knows me well, is quite used to me being about and I doubt very much that she was embarrassed at all.
Thanks again Tim, it has been very many years since I last traveled to Carlisle by train so enjoyed the refresher views and memories.

Nice filming to Carlisle with the sidings along the way and good to see other part of the station. Don't mind the 57's. 👍

Beatiuful video, greetings 🚂👍🥳
Thank you. Best wishes to you Conceyullena.
Your local MP on film… I’ll not bring politics into the chat though; the less said about him, the better 🏴

Nice video
Thank you for watching - glad you enjoyed it.
