My dad bought me a 1962 Fender Strat from a pawn shop in 1964 right after the Beatles played Ed Sullivan. It was not in great shape finish wise but played fantastic. I learned on that guitar how to play. We had a friend that had just opened a music store in our home town in Texas. My dad and I took it by to show him the guitar and he said, Leo Fender can redo this guitar for $75 dollars at the factory. My dad looks at me (I'm 8 years old) and says...yes...let's do that. Our friend grabs the phone and calls Leo Fender and tells him about the guitar. Leo Fender says..sure, send it out to California and we will make it new again. About 8 weeks later...the guitar comes back with a new beautiful Sunburst finish.......I still play that guitar every day....and our friend with the music store? He is famous and sold Stevie Ray Vaughn his Number One Strat.......;)

But the end of that video, I didn’t see that coming and the gift you gave to Jim is just amazing. As I said in your previous video, you really are a generous person, really kin to share things with as many people as possible, but that was the ultimate gesture, a top class act you and Jim will share for as long as you’ll live, and probably beyond as it seems like a chapter of this white Strat, so as long as the guitar(s) will live. Congratulations, not only on your acquisition of the '63 Strat you wanted so much, but also on being contacted by the Strat's original owner and receiving the guitar's backstory. This, as you commented in the video, happens SO rarely! I heartily support your decision to give Jim the black Strat, which really cements your gratitude to him for his contributions to your understanding of "Blondie B"! Hopefully, this will even be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
I've never had much of a Jones for vintage guitars, myself -- but I OF COURSE understand Gear Acquisition Syndrome! Interestingly, the "mojo" you're so convinced Blondie B has actually seems to come through in the audio! I'd envy you and hate you forever😉, but I'm working on my own 21-fret Stratoid Peavey Raptor Plus EXP. I replaced the cheap, zinc-built bridge with a bridge featuring a brass sustain block and steel everything else; now I'm going to replace the bent-steel saddles with brass blocks. The shape of the saddles isn't important, and I would have preferred bent BRASS, but couldn't find them online anywhere. I actually have brass saddles on it right now, but I didn't know that they would turn out to be too long. My guess is that they were intended for a plate bridge (like on six-saddle Telecaster bridges) rather than I vintage-style vibrato. The excess length means that the guitar cannot be intonated properly ... but the tone ROCKS!🤘 Hopefully, the tone will remain the same after I put the new saddles on -- and yes, I checked them for length!😎 If you read this reply, Robert, and you're interested, let me know and I'll let YOU know how it all goes! Congrats again!😎❤️️🎸‼️

Hey man, what an amazing story. It just goes to show you how much of a small world it really is. Amazing what a journey this guitar was on, and it’s so cool that the guitar has a great owner who really appreciates it, enjoy it and have fun with it. My story is not as spectacular as this guitars is, but I own a ‘78 Strat (it’s a CBS model, but I’ve loved it as much as a pre CBS one, lol). I bought it in 1979 from a guy in my friends band who bought it new a year earlier. I’ve had it since 1979 (40 years, not quite as long as your guitars previous owner but not a bad run) and in the last 20 years or so it spent most of its time in its case under my bed due to many reasons (work, family health situations, living situations etc.) I almost sold many times, especially when I lost my job in 2014 and had go on disability. But I kept it. I’m glad I did. In 2015 I moved from NY to PA to live closer to family here, I was able to get a good apartment with plenty of space and a lot of time to start playing again. I fell in love with the guitar and playing it all over again, so much so that I bought a multi effects pedal that came with an introductory recording program. I installed the program on to my computer and began recording, at first just riffs, then songs. I absolutely love playing again and I love recording my own instrumentals utilizing the virtual instruments built into the program. One thing I didn’t mention was when i was younger I wanted to be a recording engineer, but I didn’t have the money to go school to study it, so it stayed a dream. When I was working I looked into getting the software to record but several life situations came up and it wasn’t possible. Now, four years after I moved I’m still enjoying the Strat and playing engineer in my bedroom. I’m still very new and raw to recording, and my playing is slowly getting better, I’m not quite up to my old chops when I was younger but I’m having a ball nonetheless. I was close to buying a new guitar recently when my living situation changed again in August. When my brother and I moved here four years ago we were able to afford a much better place to live (cheaper, more room and nicer) than when we were in NY, unfortunately my brother passed away this August and I just moved to another apartment here in PA in October. My plans for a new guitar are on hold for now, I can’t financially swing it right now, but I’m hoping in the future to get the guitar I want. The point of my long (and I hope not too boring) story is that I’m so glad I held onto my good old ‘78 Strat, I rediscovered how much fun I had with it when I first got it 40 yrs ago. Not as exciting as your Strats story but a pretty good one nonetheless. Stay cool dude and shred away.

I have to admit I was excited to have a chance to win the Strat you were giving away. That being said, giving the guitar to Jim, that seemed like a perfect end - well at least a next part of your story. I understand completely, and I know that made everyone involved feel really good about the whole adventure. Good deal brother. I can only imagine his surprise when the UPS guy showed up with his new guitar!. Well played brother. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas. Take care.

My strat is MIM (and only about 10 years old) but watching this made me grab it off the wall and jam! (I have several guitars so it generally gets played about once every week or two... it’s not for lack of love, it’s just the music my band plays calls for something different)
Thanks, Mr. Baker, for all the inspiration.
PS Guitars might not talk, but they sure do sing!

Great video. It is really awesome that you got to hear the history of your new guitar. I think it was a really nice gesture to give Jim the Strat that you were giving away. I would happily bow out of a give away for that kind of generosity. You are a good dude!

Man giving him that strat is such an awesome move! That just puts you on the top of my list of favorite youtubers! That just continues the story of Blondie for him and other than having Blondie back there's not a guitar in the world he could've bought that could've meant so much! That's just an amazing thing to do and..... just thank you for being that kind of person!

You just became my favorite RUclips guitarist with this awesome story. The amount of respect you show for this guitar, it's history and its original owner is beyond heartwarming. And your generosity in giving him another strat. I'm sure he couldn't be happier knowing a guitar that he had for over a half of a century is in such good hands.

That is such an awesome story! I couldn’t wait until I got home to watch this video, I’ve never been so excited to watch a video before. It is also so awesome with you giving Jim the black strat, also did you notice the irony in the strat that you gave him? The pickgaurd is tortoise shell and a black body. In the pictures from the 60s his 63 was a black based body with a tortoise shell pickgaurd.🤯

Nice. Reminds me of some years ago when I had bought a used '05 Cadillac STS, was a former lease. I ran into a guy who owned one and lived about 3 hours for me, but the dealer I purchased it from was 90 minutes from me. We ended up talking more, and it turns out I bought his old car.

Robert, The story of this Strat is so cool. Thanks for sharing. I've also been able to track down original owners of my 73 LP and 73 SG. Even was given pictures of the LP being used on stage. The stories of the guitars are almost as fun to hear as they are to play.

That was a great story with a great ending Robert!
If there was ever an anti-relic'ing video to watch this is it folks! See, THIS is why some of us scoff at relic guitars, THERE"S NO STORY BEHIND THOSE SCUFFS AND SCRATCHES!!!! Isn't it funny though, here we have guys taking new or fairly new guitars and trying to make them look old and then we have a truly old one that someone made it look new again. I think the guitar was destined to be refinished so Robert Baker could tell his story with it.
It never surprises me when things like this happen, I do believe there is a higher power that intercedes in our lives down here for whatever reason that power chooses to. I call that power God, others call it fate or Buddha or whatever, but to think life down here just plays out willy nilly is really put to shame when we hear of things like this happening. Maybe your guitar videos have saved someones life Robert? Some kid somewhere lost and thinking about ending it happens to stumble across one of your videos and it sparks a desire in him to play the guitar and from there he feels important or that he has a calling or maybe it just gives him something to do to take his mind off of his young man problems long enough that he grows up and has a happy life. Who knows how far we ALL reach others just doing what we do everyday. It's like that movie, It's a Wonderful Life, we never truly know how much impact our life has on others until one day someone says, "Hey, it's because of you that I ________".
