  • Welcome back to the channel. Thank you for joining me as I start the process of learning to blacksmith.
The video today is my first project, a railroad spike knife. I ordered the spikes from Ebay and was listed as a medium carbon content spike.
For my research I just remembered watching some other people that used railroad spikes. I also watched many other blacksmiths use a variety of twist methods.
The new tongs you see me using are a v-bit tong that have a tight jaw closing. I also picked up the leather apron you see in the video, I have not owned one before but it felt comfortable and sturdy so far.

Evening, thanks for the kind words. I am hoping to get some more practice in. I am waiting on some new grinding belts to put the finishing touches on it

Nice stuff. A tip for the next knife you are going to make is that you could hammer the edge of the knife so that you don't have to grind it that much. Saves some belts in the long run and a lot of time.

Thank you for the tip. I will make sure I take that into consideration for the next one I do. Hoping to get the grind done this weekend...
