    I loved that Title 1 School video. At the time when I read the comments there weren't any negative comments. Teaching at un underprivileged school is tough and there are problems that you don't have at an average school. You spoke about the adversities that come with teaching at a Title 1 School but you also were positive as well. Not everything is going to pleasant and you shouldn't have to hide that, my favourite part of your videos is you always show both the positives and the negatives that come with being a teacher!

    You shouldn't have to sugarcoat YOUR personal experiences. I adore all your videos, even your early ones. You have been a massive source of inspiration for me in how I want my classroom to run. I always look forward to your videos.

    Girl you are brave for speaking out about your experience at a Title I school! A lot of teachers on the internet sugarcoat their teaching experiences to Pinterest perfect classrooms and students who are amazing. I work in a Title I school as well and I come home crying daily. I teach first grade and chairs fly, books are thrown, blinds are pulled from the wall. I have had my hair pulled, body beat, stabbed with scissors... it is not what I thought teaching would be like at ALL. I scroll through Instagram and wonder why can't I have what these teachers have?! keep your head up you are doing GREAT ❤️

    This upcoming school year I will be going into my 3rd year teaching at a title 1 school. I saw nothing wrong with your video. I even grew up and went to title 1 schools. I think it's amazing that you show and give insight. I wish I would of had videos like these a few years back! Keep going, for every one hater there's hundreds that you are encouraging and inspiring.

    I'm an elementary teacher as well. I just finished my 5th year teaching, 2 years in Kindergarten and 3 years in first grade. I agreed with your comments on a Title 1 school. My first two years were as a Kinder teacher in a Title 1 school. Teaching is hard, it is extremely demanding. Two of the teachers I taught with in that district quit after their first year because they didn't "realize" how demanding this profession is. Yes, we are working hard to make a difference and yes, we want what is best for our students, but it doesn't change the fact that there are circumstances out of our control that greatly impact our students' learning. And there is not much that we can do about it, we just do the best that we can. I think underestimating how demanding this profession is, is one of the main reasons why we have a shortage of teachers across the nation. Yes, we are underpaid, overcrowded with students, micromanaged by administration, expected to have our students excel in standardize tests, etc. Whenever I'm ask about my profession I say it's the most rewarding thing I've done but the most demanding as well. Many outspoken people in education have never been in charge of a classroom, and until you teach you don't know what you are talking about. This is especially relevant towards legislators, parents, and administrators. Try not to dwell on the negative comments, they aren't worth the time or effort. I throughly enjoy your videos, I look forward to the next one. :)

      Liz Polowczyk Hi there! I just want you to know that you are not alone! In my first year, I applied to over 52 positions in one summer, interviewed at a ton, and didn't get hired anywhere. I ended up working at Chipotle for a summer. Right before school started, I got hired. Lots of schools do hiring right before the school year starts because numbers of kids shift and change. Keep trying and stay positive!

      I thought I was alone there! I graduated in 2015 applied to so many schools. Most didn't call back or even bother replying to emails. The best is being told you're not educated enough after JUST graduating! I took a break because of the defeat and I'm hoping to get a position this year.

    If a principal saw these videos and the amount of organized prep that you put into your interviews, you'd get a job on the spot. :)
    Each general topic you named in your templates was spot-on perfect for a teaching interview. They're also super cute, and as teacher-y as you can be! ;) I would add working with others/your views on collaboration, what you believe the role of the principal/administration should be, how you handle criticism and suggestions, as well as how you communicate: with students, with other teachers, with your principal and superintendent, and with parents. And don't forget to research the school beforehand so that you know what their philosophies are and you can ask good questions and appeal to what they're looking for! Good luck, fellow teachers!!
    P.S. It is *super brave* of you to show the interview process, which can feel so stressful and discouraging at times. People need to see this and that they're not alone....even the best of teachers (like you) feel the struggle and frustration.

    Let negative comments roll off of your shoulders! I have always taught at a Title 1 school, and it is rare that people are honest about how it really is. I will ALWAYS teach in a Title 1 school, but the struggle can be oh so real! Keep going, and push through the negativity doll!😊 Remember if you want positivity all the time, you'd literally have to be doing nothing note worthy, this just means you are kicking butt with your channel.

    I appreciate your candor for teaching in a title 1 school. I have wrapped up my 8th yr of teaching. My 2nd-5th years were in a title 1 middle school. What you talked about is TRUE! It's tough! This is what I have experienced and seen with title 1. Behavior is one of the biggest issues. There are far more kids with BIPs. Classroom mgmt can be an issue because universities and colleges do not prepare you enough to handle behaviors like: defiance, insubordination, and disrespect with lack of home support. I have taught in 3 title 1 schools and 2 of them had hardly any parental help. The third one I am in we do. When you work at a title 1 school, most times than not, the school overall isn't performing at state levels and that can mean more things you have to do as a teacher. Less autonomy, more micro-managing from admin, extremely detailed lesson plans, specific assessments given pretty often etc. This is my perspective of teaching in title 1 schools. The school I am at is title 1 and we have some of the things I mentioned above, but I am very lucky to have very supportive admin and lots of parental support with an awesome PTO. You are doing a great job!

    • @beverlycorley385
      @beverlycorley385 7 лет назад +5

      I too teach at a Title 1 and absolutely everything you said is right on target. Whats even worse - is that often the teachers get blamed for the issues - "you must not be doing this that or the other" or "you should be doing more" ..... and we are also compared to the schools that are not Title I. Still, I teach where I teach by choice, and even with the challenges I can honestly say - I love it!

    • @Coppermoonartteacher
      @Coppermoonartteacher 7 лет назад +2

      YES! Totally!! My second year was my worst year. I had a principal who criticized everything I did. She liked quiet classes and I taught with groups. She would nic-pick everything I did and then I was blamed for the behaviors of the class. I was a BT 2 with no support from my mentor. So I went home daily in tears. Many years later I realized it wasn't the right fit for me. You just don't know until you get in there, you know?! As a BT it's hard to voice concerns and issues without feeling like you are rocking the boat or causing issues on your team. I really love teaching the kiddos I have now and I have found my niche with the low/struggling students!

    Hey Michelle! I just wanted to say to keep your head up about your Title 1 teacher video. I will be completely honest with you, I used to be one of those Title 1 students whose parents struggled. It's teachers like you who changed my life and told me that the one thing I could control in life was my attitude towards my education. Please don't let anyone else dampen your spirit because you touch your students lives and are a positive person in their lives. If people can't understand that then they haven't watched enough of your videos or understand your teacher struggles. Anyways. Just wanted to send you some love this morning.

I absolutely LOVE how real you are and honest you are. Please don't pay attention to the 'haters'. They have nothing else better to do than to bring somebody down. They just crave attention. Keep being you because you rock!

  • @happilyinthemiddle9707

    I just want to say that I think you are great, honest, and real. We need more people like you in the world. Teaching in a Title 1 school is not for the faint of heart. It is hard, overwhelmed, time consuming, and tears at your heart. You get beat down, and are under appreciated. I've been cussed out by kids AND parents, I've had things thrown at me, I've been threatened with violence, I've had a parent back me against a wall and yell in my face, I've had kids throw chairs, desks, kids steal school supplies, my food, and even more. I never had anything remotely like that in a private school, or in non Title 1 schools. The struggle is real. Your experience is real and valid. Do not be ashamed or feel like you've done something wrong. You've created a platform to share about the your experiences teaching, and your experience at the title 1 school matters!

    It is really interesting seeing behind the scenes of what else is happening in your life, especially getting more insight on interviews and moving house. In regards to you getting hate and negative comments, like you said when you talk about important issues and things people are too scared to mention then you will get people who take it negatively and respond the same way but please don't take it to heart! I love every single video you make because as a trainee teacher it is really nice to pick up all of your tips and gain more understanding of the career I am getting myself into. Of course, I'm in the UK and you're based in the USA so there will be differences but honestly a lot of the tips are transferable across the globe and I find your videos really helpful! Good luck with your interview next week though I am sure you don't need any as you're an amazing person and fantastic teacher, good luck on the moving front too I know how crazy that can be! I love watching your videos! You are such an inspiration to me, as I want to be a primary teacher when I graduate university (I am going into first year this coming September). I love how you show the positives and negatives of teaching, and how you share real life situations that you have been through, as well as all of your experiences as a teacher. I think that what you are doing by showing the real, hard life of a teacher is very important, as teachers often get taken for granted, and taken advantage of. Your hard work and positive attitude really inspires me and I aspire to be a teacher just like you when I graduate.

    Michelle, I have been watching your videos and following you on Facebook for months now, and I can honestly say that you are my favorite teacher RUclipsr. I am not saying that to butter you up. I am saying that because I see that both of our values for teaching align. Though we teach different things (You are a general education teacher, and I am a bilingual special education teacher.), we both have a love of teaching that is simply a part of our being. I, like you, spend hours upon hours before or after school working on stuff (lessons, lesson prep, organization, grading, IEPs, etc.). I also spend alot of my money on my classroom. I see it as an investment. I have worked at Title One schools for the majority of my 8 years as a teacher, and it is very difficult. I am not saying that working at a blue ribbon school is a walk in the park because teaching in general wherever you are requires hard work, commitment, and dedication. Nevertheless, teaching at a Title One school brings its own set of challenges that can be heartbreaking and make one feel defeated because many of these challenges are out of our control. These are systematic issues of poverty, unemployment, and housing. All we can do is control what happens in the four walls of our classrooms. You do an amazing job. Therefore, people can have all of the opinions they want but at the end of the day, from an outsider's perspective, I can tell you love your students and you love the teaching profession, and that's all that matters.

    Michelle,
    I am a college student getting my degree for elementary education. I love that you are open and honest in your vlogs because it helps me to understand and better prepare myself for what lies ahead. I know I have a lot of challenges ahead of me not only because I'll be a new teacher, I'll also be in my mid 40s by the time I will be ready to start teaching, and I have cerebral palsy and am wheelchair bound so I don't expect my journey to be an easy one. I have already faced some pretty tough critics about going into teaching with my condition, but you are an inspiration to me, and help me keep believing that I can do this, and be a successful teacher. If I can make some kind of difference in just one child's life each school year then I can say I accomplished a small goal. Thank you again for just being you, and for being one of my biggest mentors in teaching. I love you like family. God bless you!

    Ignore the negative comments. You are a great person. My mother taught at a Title 1 school and hated it. I witnessed what she went through. She ended up leaving after 2 years and doesn't want to teach again:(

    Title 1 Schools are places where teachers teach because they want to make a difference. It is very rewarding and like you said, can be quite challenging because living in poverty is stressful for the children, their parents and family. You're right, it is difficult to have all the answers. Each teacher will have a wealth of stories about their experiences. The best thing we can do is reflect, focus on the needs of the students, and brainstorm with peers for ways to support our students. I enjoy your vlogs, RUclips and TPT. Thank you for sharing :)

    I love your videos. please continue...over 50% of teachers leave the field the first 3 years. I believe it's because they are not prepared to work with many of the challenges associated with teaching. I always discuss with my students the challenges I faced as a teacher...especially classroom management challenges. I want them prepared. love your cat! keep up all the great work.

    Speaking as a former title 1 student and former case manager for a women's shelter...your video was fine and you said exactly what any teacher in those situations would have been thinking. Keep up the good work. I was a psych major and became a therapist. Been a stay at home mommy now a few years but your channel is making me seriously consider subbing on the side for a lil extra income. Found your channel when I was looking for ways to tech my lil preschooler. You're awesome!

    I am going back to school to get a degree in early childhood education so I can teach. I love to watch your videos because, first of all, you are adorable(!), but also because you are so refreshingly honest about the teaching experience. I loved your video on teaching in a title I school. I think unfortunately in this day and age it's hard to be honest about anything without being called names. Thank you for your candor because it is actually helpful and important to those of us who want to prepare to be good teachers in the real world. Watching someone pretend that a day in the life of a teacher is all rainbows and unicorns would not be the least bit helpful.

    First of all, I found your Title 1 school video to be very accurate in general, not just relative to your experiences. Second of all, I love your videos, and I'm a secondary teacher. I started watching your channel recently, and I'm so excited to binge watch your older videos this summer. Third of all, would you consider making a video about vlogging as a teacher? I love watching teacher vlogs, and am considering vlogging my experiences as a high school teacher because it seems that all of the teacher vloggers are elementary teachers. I've also participated in a blogging challenge portraying a day in the life of a teacher for an entire school year, and I think filming it would bring a new dimension to the project (not that they would necessarily be connected). I'd appreciate your thoughts, insights, and tips on filming and the equipment you use. 💜
