So influential is Garrett's creation that it retrieves in spades the days BEFORE steadicam - the most notable example being the rooftop to pool and into pool shot in 'Soy Cuba' (I am Cuba) - to which Anderson cannily alludes in 'Boogie Nights' - that allows us to marvel 'how DID they do that?'
I'm not sure many would agree with me - but that's their problem - but I will go to the mat defending 'Blow Out' as the greatest film De Palma ever made.
BLOW OUT is SUCH an underrated and forgotten classic by De Palma. Really good film.
it is awesome !!!
It truly is. My favorite DePalma film.

Excellent video.... thanks Mr. Brown---for bringing us the steadicam!
Great movie, and a great interview
Amazing gamechanging inventor.
"We did it in remarkably few takes."
Garrett, everything would seem like few takes immediately after working for Kubrick. LOL.
Brilliant guy
so that's how he did it....amazing.
He HAS to be James Cameron's brother.
Vish BH true
Holy shit this guy is a bad ass!!
Interesting stuff
He sounds a lot like Jonathan Banks.
legend!
10:30 is that a Blow Out deleted scene?
They're filming the party thats on the tv in the beginning.
Good spot. I don't believe Sally appears in any of the used footage of the news-covered convention sequence.

Blow out is a good movie, but hardly a masterpiece like Blow Up that it wants to homage
