    Working flywheel prototype using 1 wheel (currently) using a gear ratio of 84:60, for the VEX Spin Up competition. This needs positioning at the correct angle and is still a working prototype but is a good first way to look at how you can get the disk into the goal for the Spin Up competition.

    How many motors did you use for the flywheel launcher? I only have 1 motor available, with a blue gearbox. I have something similar but it doesn't go up to full speed and it slows down when i turn it on.

    nice

    What exactly did you use to make this and , did you also use those gears at the bottom or just the top mechanism

    hello, i use chains, and 200 rpm motor and my flywheel has 5000rpm as speed. but discs do not go far. As flywheel i use 2 gear 84 and and vex one direction wheel.

    Did you use a blue motor or green. I saw 2 speed gear ratios but not motor color

      This is using a blue motor

      Ok, would it work to use 3 speed ratios?

    • @steamlabstech
      @steamlabstech  2 года назад

      The gearing we have used is 60T, 12T, 12T 60T, this is an 84:60 ratio, it may work with a 3 speed ratio but haven't tested it yet, this gear mechanism works very well, if you have enough gears I would try it. Let us know how you get on with a 3 speed ratio.

    we are trying double flywheel approach but it’s not going as far as yours. do you have any advice?

    • @steamlabstech
      @steamlabstech  Год назад +2

      Double flywheel works, but my teams have found single flywheel is more effective, I suggest maybe a ratio of around 120 - 12 teeth with a single motor, if you use the blue cartridge this will generate enough power. The advice I can offer is protoytype prototype prototype, there is no easy answer with this, some of my teams are on their 8th iteration of the flywheel, a different structure will be different for each robot design.

    Where can I buy just one? My school doesn't have any and insists they can neither find somewhere to buy it (they say it'll take too long) nor can they afford it.

      Hi,
      What is it you are looking to buy? VEX are now selling a dedicated flywheel weight as well as a ball bearing which allows you to create less friction in the mechanism. Flex wheels are also now legal, the latter two parts I mentioned my teams are starting to experiment with, you can work without these in a flywheel build but I think you may run into issues with friction for this years competition.

      @@steamlabstech I thought it was called a flywheel, but it's actually (as you mentioned) a flex wheel.
      If I try to buy one from vex, do you think I could get it within two weeks?

      That is a million dollar question many are asking. Firstly, there are different components you need to purchase
      1 - flex wheel
      2 - hub
      There are different variations of components you can use, we went with aluminium hubs as the cheaper hubs were out of stock, we have also purchased a ball bearing to help reduce friction on the flywheel, one of my teams hasn't released their latest build yet, we will post it on this channel when they are ready.
      I hope that helps, lots of excellent robot reveals already released this season which will hopefully help you

    do you have instructions on how to build it?

    • @steamlabstech
      @steamlabstech  2 года назад

      I don't have instruction, if you pause the video you should be able to see what parts I have used, the most important part is the gearing
      At the bottom connected to the motor is an 84T gear, this connects to the middle shaft which is using a 12T gear with another 84T gear on the same shaft, being driven from the middle 84T gear is another 12, so you have 180T driving a 12T gear
