Definitely a Friday afternoon motor there guys , and could of cost you all that hard work. Looking forward to seeing the outcome guys, new motor and a complimentary dent and scratches FPV rig at the very least lol . Thanks for sharing and as usual, its a thumbs up from me .
Guys - thanks for sharing. I think you are correct - a definite manufacturing flaw. Please share if you get any joy from HobbyKing. It should be insightful to understand to what degree (if at all) they stand behind their products. Also please comment on the cooling for this pusher configuration - there did not appear to any specific provision - despite the large firewall clearly fully shadowing the motor. Keep up the good work. Thanks Martin
I've always had good luck with the NTM motors from Hobby King! but no doubt the one you showed is a manufacturing defect!! I hope HK makes it right!!! (but don't hold your breath!!!), enjoyed the build of the RQ-7!!
Hi there the exact same thing happened to me with a Turnigy prop drive 2836. when I opened it up two of the windings were overlaped. Mine didn't burn out I only noticed because the motor became tight to turn by hand. Good luck getting a replacement customer service is pants. Great maiden thou 😀
love watching the build videos but could you help me I am going to build this plane soon but I want to put a gas engine on for longer flight times what size engine would you say I would need for this plane
Just wondering seeing the RQ-7 maiden video again, nothing life threat over here but, ... Did you get your replacement for this one Rob? (just wondering) Cheers.
yes a failure no doubt... good job you landed it ok you could have had a smashed up model as well....only your calmness rob enabled you to land it....superb
Unfortunately this is happening all too often these days and it doesn't matter the brand or the price. Having said that, I have bought and used dozens of NTM and Turnigy motors and never had a problem. Good luck getting a replacement :-(
yeah I had an align bl600mx do it, brand new, I looked inside an found out one little wire came off the winding and ended up in the same position, in between the magnets and boom, bad thing was I was bench testing a brand new trex in my house, smoked and stunk the whole house out for hours
Hobbyking seem to think that they are exempt from the sale of goods act, they mess you around asking for videos which they loose and the whole claim vanishes, not good enough, the only safe and sure way to deal with HK is to purchase their items that are on EBay,that way you get your money back.
Got exactly the same result with the same motor at its very 1st flight! :( ruclips.net/video/MEwWMDU9KVU/видео.html see the result at the end of the video, it burnt the same way!
Can You do some updates on the plane and how it fly's Please.
Thanks Dan

Will keep you all updated with the outcome! I dont think cooling was an issue in this case. Luck of the draw. just a bad motor.

Thanks for the comment, I have faith in Hobbyking to do the right thing. Just need to talk to the right people ;o)

I have complete faith in HobbyKing!
I deal a lot with HK too so it will be interesting to see what they say about the obvious manufacturing error.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome ;o)
So... Did you get your replacement?
Always good to see what went wrong, lessen learned. :o)
Thanks mate for your support!

Thanks Jeff. Remember Just keep flying the plane!

Yeah they do normally just work fine for us too. Im sure Hobbyking will do whats required ;o)

wow. never seen that before. had a lot of motors from HK.
Had a lot of motors from Hobbyking too. This is only the second one to have failed.
No more progress on this plane? No more vids?
The motor didn't sound right when you opened it up at take off.

Guys don't hold your breath for a replacement on their bill. If it is past the warranty time period they won't do anything.
Lets see how the dice roll ;o)
Bummer. I wish you could do a trade in for a new one.
Lets wait and see what HK say ;o)
