I have never been so infuriated by what a person was saying while being so grateful that they are saying it. Thank you for explaining this awful system so clearly.
The pulling permits part can be dependent on location. I’m in LA City and under the LA County assessor, they will only add on the supplemental taxes/assessment for the additional improvement values. Not the whole property. Of course this differs if you remodel the whole house versus building an additional bedroom as the same owner.
I got billed. I owe for Dec 2021 and Apr 20222 :( -- You explained this so well man. I'm sharing this with my brother, he's house shopping! Thank you for the gems
What I don't understand is why I have to pay this bill out of pocket when my mortgage lender is collecting tax payments into escrow based on the new value.
Someone has to pay the difference. The seller should’ve already paid that difference but because California protects the current owner by not increasing actual property taxes by more than 2% yearly, the amount that should’ve been paid falls on the new owner (buyer).
The previeous owner of my home didn't pay the supplemental income and me being a first time homeowner and naive had no idea!! I wish there was a law where prospective real estate buyers were disclosed of this info prior to closing Escrow!
I just closed on a house on June 28th in CA, do you think It is I will pay the full year or just a small portion? trying to anticipate what the supplemental tax bill will be.
Thank you for this! Can you elaborate on the new construction part? We bought a new build home last March and got a supplemental tax bill for new construction and just got two more for the ownership change event AND the assessment was lower than the first, but still getting charged. So confusing.
Got property tax "bills" today. Freaked out and came here lol. Then noticed Loan Bank sent a check for the amount owed in property taxes? Strange since I have an escrow for that? I live in southern cali , riverside. Strange thing is that they are asking me to pay supplemental taxes for 2020 and I bought the house in march of 2021? does that make any sense at all? I have to pay 2020 and 2021.
As a home owner at the age of 22. I pay my first property tax payment and this alone was a pain in the ass. And until recently, I got a mail about the reassessment. I never heard and even know what is this about and if i need to do anything. I still havent gotten any bill to pay for this yet but I am constantly worrying about this bill. I am also a full time student and a pilot that fly for living, having this on my mind is not healthy.
What about transferring title to a child? So not just adding them to title but actually removing yourself from title and transferring title in the child’s name. Would that trigger a reassessment?
Great Video. We bought a home in Oct 2021 and were hit 1st with an ADJUSTED secured bill then we were hit with 2 secured supplemental bills and hit again with an ADJUSTED supplemental tax bill . I'm in CA and just wondering if this sounds correct ? Thanks in Advance
Does Arizona raise you was saying California only goes up 2% I plan on moving to Gilbert az I currently reside in Merced ca. I’m a 100% disabled Iraq war veteran I did the tax exemption my house closed. 7/22/22 the exemption kicked in December 2023 the extra taxes I was paying they put it into my escrow account the amount was 5K they paid the supplemental taxes with the money I was going to buy a water softener nope 👎
I got hit with two sets of supplemental taxes(4 bills;/) .. Seems like the home I purchased was flipped a month(Jan) before I purchase the house and then I bought it a month(Feb) later. Do you know why I am responsible for both sets of supplemental taxes? Why wasn't one of these sets of taxes sent to the first person that bought the property in Jan? or is this an error on the counties part? I'm Sacramento CA ... any ideas if there's anything I can do about this? Thank you in advance
FIle a PCOR form with title, Line item J will omit you from tax reassessment. If you are adding someone to title for the purposes or qualifying for a mortgage loan
You need 260% After budgeting your spending plus sales tax. And budgeting your income tax.. ect.. True math. 100K annual isn't enough. Let's go vote on Gay aborted global thermostat.

Thank you for helping me understand the supplemental tax bill
First time homeowner and I’m in California and I’m trying to figure shit out 😭. This video has a lot of info! Thank you

Yes pls explain this. Where does the $$$ go?

Great video very informative.
Hi, How do I figure out supplemental tax for a new home. if there was no previous value?
So what are the options for paying the supplemental tax bill? Can you use equity to pay it?
Out of pocket, if u pay them with ur equity U need to get a line of credit, I wouldn’t refi it would cost to much
@@WhatsAMortgage will they take a payment plan?

Just in time on this video. Thanks.
Ty
So, we bought our home 28 yes ago. If we do something requiring a permit, we will get a supplemental tax going back 28 years!!!???
Thank you for this! Can you elaborate on the new construction part? We bought a new build home last March and got a supplemental tax bill for new construction and just got two more for the ownership change event AND the assessment was lower than the first, but still getting charged. So confusing.
If you refinance without adding or removing anyone on title or renovations. Does that creat a supplemental tax bill?
How to print the LA county tax bill

So this is just first years??? Or every year
Is there a way to avoid this payment or get a refund if you already paid?

I just paid my supplemental tax so its just a one time thing? because I bought my house last May.
Anything that funds January till june, 2 bills , July to December 1 bill
What does putting your property tax do for me? If property tax paid is $1,000 and owe $1,000 does it cancel what I owe?
So I gotta pay this supplemental tax every year?
No u will have 1 or 2 bill and that’s it
How about when you refinance to take money out of your house and or get a lower interest rate, do you get a supplemental tax bill??
No, only when u change or add people to title or u do renovation that requires permit

Hi, I’m in literally the same scenario. Did you ever get some clarity to this?

“Change of ownership” on a new build is ridiculous. We paid our first installment on our new build. $3k each installment smfh
FIle a PCOR form with title, Line item J will omit you from tax reassessment. If you are adding someone to title for the purposes or qualifying for a mortgage loan
I made my lender pay the supplemental tax bill only because my escrow had enough to cover it
Is it worth to apply for the California Homeowner Property Tax Exemption?
Naw it’s like 7 off price of home
❤
