It's high-school mean girl behavior, you can't make that shit up.
29:45 Doug is Griffith in golden age and everybody else is the Band of the Hawk. Attaching their dreams to his. But instead of it being heart warming and showing comradery. They were filled with spit and selfishness.
The one thing I will always give Doug is that nothing, not even his worst stuff, ever feels cynical. Compare him to Linkara and you can tell that Doug genuinely enjoys what he does and puts passion into everything, even though it mostly ends up awful. On a site full of Jim Sterlings and MovieBobs, that is surprisingly rare to see.
That's why I don't understand why people shit talk Doug Walker so much. It's almost as if people are ashamed that he was an influence when he was a massive influence on a lot of people and people hate it. He has some ridiculous opinions (I still stand firm that he nor his brother truly get why Last Action Hero is awesome), he's not a good actor, writer or director but at least he has passion, cares about what he's doing and takes everything in stride. Linkara is literally the antithesis of Doug Walker.......and I mean that in terms of the actual human being in personality. Lupa is another garbage person.
It's because Doug thought he was better than his creation and that he was a brilliant comedy writer, as well as Alpha Nerd. Watch his game show or Demo Reel. It's fuckin' atrocious. Worse yet, there was no control over his worse excesses. There are more skits than editorial content on his reviews. That's become the tipping point for most creators, from RTMM, to Joe, to Spoony. Even worse, it's given them and the channel's contributors ego trips the size of planetary bodies. Linkara, Joe, and Lindsay in particular have become nauseatingly preachy and believe themselves arbiters over opinions and content. Had Doug had some balls and leadership ability, they'd still be a community today instead of being the blueprint and stereotype of the RUclips Creator arc.
After seeing Joon the King take the Not So Awesome document at face value during his Nostalgia Critic video, it’s great to see someone call the CTC crew out on their shit.
Yeah I kinda had a whiplash from watching Joon the King vid then to Almighty loli vid. After hearing the many discrepancies of the document, I had to laugh that Joon took everything at face value
Even to this day, so many videos on Channel Awesome genuinely sound like petty internet reviewers being jealous about Doug's continued success. I stumbled on this series and it's a breath of fresh air.
Even looking at the Lady Emily videos, it shows that Doug is less of a dictator like he's portrayed in both Kickassia and the document, and more that he's just incompetent in filmmaking. Yeah, he sure has a passion for films and filmmaking in general, but he doesn't have the grasp for good comedy nor to handle a shoestring budget. Hell, it took one of his editors to take his worst project (Demo Reel) and make it tolerable.
This was definitely symptomatic of a big issue of this era of RUclips. Guys who got their start doing funny stuff all of a sudden thought cracking jokes was beneath them and went full dramatic with their once comedic series, bloating them with plot, lore, and I am 14 and this is deep style edgy philosophizing. Edit: sorry, I didn't know editing my comment for clarity would get rid of your heart, Loli. XD
and the thing is, no one really asked for them to go dramatic or get super in depth. I still enjoy Doug’s older stuff because it was funny, not super deep and analytical.
So glad that finally someone calls out that stupid rape joke complaint. I’ve literally never understood that criticism for the reasons you described. Despite what people like QuintonReviews say, it’s not even close to being a rape joke. It just feels like a weak excuse to try and make Doug look like a creep since realistically he hadn’t really done much wrong so they needed something, anything really, to justify their hatred of him to the Change the Channel supporters.
What I remember most about To Boldly Flee are these two things: 1) The Spoony Drama and his departure from the site happened right before it was completed, which made the entire thing even more awkward than it already was. 2) I watched part of it while having Monday Night Raw on the TV in the background, and it was the episode where Jerry Lawler had a heart attack and almost died on air. It was a weird night.
Lewis: "I'm an altruist who values all life! Superheroes taught me to help everyone because it's right and revenge is bad! 🥺🥺" Also Lewis: "Brad Jones got swatted? HA HA! Fuck that guy! Payback is a bitch! 😈😈"
I really don’t see what the big deal is, everyone there was an adult. If you raise concerns about conditions/somebody is being a pervert and you are ignored; leave. Or call the cops if the pervert starts getting violent. Yeah Doug has a HUGE Ego. As a fan of the guy Ill still admit that but holy shit that document just sounded like a bitching and moaning. It just sucks that this ended many friendships
Awesome Video, AlmightyLoli. If anything, I feel bad for Doug, the person, not the character of the Nostalgia Critic. He tried to branch out, and he was pushed back into the role to pay the bills, Now he’s trapped. And You know what, I honestly like him when he isn’t a character, his normal Doug reviews make me happy since they are honest. From what I can tell from the people that followed in Doug’s footsteps, they clearly wanted to do this for clout and money, to ride the coattails of a popular person. And to be honest, let them be forgotten by us, it would be the ultimate justice for us.
I really don't buy in the "Doug is trapped in his own cage" narrative, specially after seeing that it started with CTC related people. I'd say even his NC videos have improved a little. They have more elements from his more down to earth reviews like the Disneycembers and similar and not much screaming. Just skip the weird sketches and you have an alright review. His Anastasia video is actually pretty good. Thankfully there's only one skit at the beginning instead of through out the video.
When that "Change the Channel" story happend, I knew from the start all the acusations should be taken with big grain of salt. Because, after all is said and done, Most if not all people making up CA were of the same type : introverts, man-children, with lack of social and communication skills, unable to handle issues in mature way. Avoding responsibility for their own mistakes and pushing blame on someone else to keep position of victim - not unexpected.
I see it now, That Guy With The Glasses was a site that was *going* to crash and burn, but Doug and anyone with a brain had already moved on to RUclips. The Change The Channel document was a last hurrah to drag it's creator down with it. It failed only for it to be the final nail in its own coffin.
This was a ride, but the greatest thing is showing just how awful everyone was. It's good to know that Doug is surrounded by good people now. For as shit as these movies are, I can't hate Doug. He's got a good heart, he's just incompetent.
I don't think Doug is incompetent. At least, that's not his biggest issue. It seems he just can't adapt creatively speaking. His writing and humor is very one note, and that can be a problem if you're planning to make a living as a content creator. But the passion about the media he talks about is there. It would've been acceptable in the early days as there wasn't much competition around to dry up Doug's potential audience. But as years go by and more people step up to try the snarky/angry reviewer bit. People will take what Doug did and do it better. Further making the flaws in his content glare out even more. The movies are laughably bad. Even by amateur standards. But I'll give Doug some credit for the passion behind it. Even if it was shit, he saw it through and gave something back to his fans. Something Spoony could learn how to do in between his bouts of binge drinking and bumming off his patrons. (Whatever is left that is...) I'm not a Nostalgia critic fan by any means. But I do wish Doug the best. He doesn't deserve to crash and burn unlike the sleazebag trash he was surrounded by.
There's some rumors that Obscurus Lupa had romantic feeling for Brad and when he refused to join her on the CTC shit, she went nuts and tried to destroy him. With how utterly crazy she behaves, I'd believe it.
He'd certainly be the better option over Phealous (her _other_ friend and frequent crossover partner). What is _not_ a rumor is her starting to hate Brad with the passion of a thousand suns when he decided to stick with his BFF in this "war".
Knew alison pregler was a complete POS when she pulled what she pulled on Spoony over a joke he cracked about another chick entirely (jesuotaku). F her.
My understanding on why they stayed with Blip so long was they had more lax restrictions on what they can show, say, and still get a paycheck. Which worked in Brad's favor as he tended to make videos about old exploitation videos that would absolutely cause issues with RUclips's monitization, as well as Benzaie when he had GameFap, where he reviewed Hentai. While everybody was having issues with DMCAs and restrictions on RUclips, they didn't have those issues on Blip. What eventually happened with Blip, they got bought by Maker and they decided they had new restrictions on who and what could be posted on there so Channel Awesome contributors had to come to RUclips. The thing with Maker buying it was weird because they just shut down the site 2 years later.
They basically screwed themselves over by refusing to change their format to be more compatible with the changing landscape (and most importantly YT, the only video site that matters if you want to "make it" in this "industry").
Blip's revenue together with Channel Awesome's exposure through the site was a comfortable deal to them all... I remember only Guru Larry going to YT way before Blip went down. I didn't watch any of the creators except NC, though.
@@redacted2275 Angry Joe also jumped ship very early on, managing to firmly establish his YT presence while the rest stuck to a sinking ship. (To bad he loves having arguments with his fans, otherwise this would be one of the rare CA-related happy endings.)
You know I always felt like the "Change the Channel" document was kinda suspect. Especially in hindsight since a lot of these people seem to be pretty toxic themselves and love to exaggerate shit. Kinda wish Mister Metokur had done a redo of the TGWTG series with this type of info. Lupa and Linkara are just trash lol
Just because everyone else involved is an absolute retard doesn't mean that Doug, Rob and Mike Michaud aren't incompetent scum. Literally everyone involved was a buffoon, there's no grand reveal
I've just gotta say that I really love this format. The juxtaposition between the overly self-serious hypocrites that made the movie against the complete nonsense they actually put onscreen is pure kino.
Almightyloli, I want to thank you for your videos. Especially as of now after I put my dog to rest. Your sense of criticism on pieces of entertainment as well as your style of comedy is such a detail
Guess I picked the right time to rewatch Metokur's TGWTG coverage from way back as the algorithm has brought me here. Watching the first part of this video reminds me a lot of the ProJared situation. After the initial pitchfork and torch mob it slowly came out that there were no heroes in the the story at all and everyone just kinda sucked.
Brad Jones has made some imho good low budget films. I have a special place for the the heart that the first Cinema Snob movie was made with and still watch his videos to this day.
Lupa showing up in two of Brad's movies after this whole drama is even funnier considering that _Doug Walker_ also shows up as an actor in at least _one_ of them.

"Change the Channel" seems like it was just a desperate attempt to detach from and disavow their shitty content, to wipe the slate clean, especially from the more politically incorrect stuff. Sort of like the "troll's remorse" phenomenon.
In reference to the CTC drama I remember there was a fairly big youtuber who pointed out some of the flaws in the document early on, such as petty complaints like being upset Doug the most popular creator on the site was given special privileges something that happens in every business. And the video got mass disliked and they were accused of being an abuse apologist basically. Even by some other well known youtubers outside Channel Awesome
@@pcb1175 oh I see, I can definitely see that being the video in question because I've seen the comment section in that video and it really felt like everyone was ignoring the points he brought up because he said that most of the complaints were exaggerated(which they were but that's besides the point).
As a man who only watched the early Nostalgia Critic videos before the crew got so.....bloated, I can't believe I was blissfully unaware of all this. I wasn't a huge fan, but I remember many of the reviews being memorable and helped me get through college boredom. Somehow I feel like watching this trilogy just for the lulz.
I used to be insanely obsessed with Channel Awesome, looking back it wasn’t that great but it has some charm. I, partly thanks to OneyPlays, look back on it with ironic jokes. This series has been a wild ride through my past internet addictions and I loved every second of it.
This is one of the few videos about this topic that doesn't take the accounts in the "Not so Awesome" document at face value, which is honestly refreshing. Like when you zoom out and see where in the early mid 2010's a bunch of marginally talented wannabes who believed they'd "hacked" the world, to work their dream jobs of trying to tear down decades old movies and tv shows until it came time for them to try to "outdo" the very things they were criticising, was a cautionary tale (literally none of them were competent enough to write) is the sort of poetic irony that makes "hating the haters" so addictive. While all the horror stories about what went on behind the scenes can't honestly be 100% true, for instance (aside from being somewhat unpleasant to look at) I refuse to believe Mike Michaud is the Machiavellian mastermind with one hand on the CA purse strings and the other up Doug's ass. Nor do I think the Channel Awesome anniversary films are movies, they're internet videos; and Doug thinking he could stage this grand exit, that it would be noticed by Hollywood and he'd be discovered as a diamond in the rough genius is the kind of hubris and stupidity that's doomed him to his fate but launched the careers of thousands of RUclips commentary channels.
There’s a big part your leaving out here about that document. The 2 biggest things in that were when Doug chewed Doritos over his brothers keyboard and when linkara smacked his belly in front of everyone until it turned red. That was when iron Liz left him. Seriously how could you leave out such important details?
Now _that's_ an interesting question, especially since the whole Edward sequence eerily reminded me of Channel Awesome in terms of overall "quality". Though at the end of the day I would say the point goes to JesuOtaku, because NetflixEdward is so bad I'm almost dying of cringe after the first line.
I will say that the length isn't too terrible when you consider these were originally released and meant to be viewed as episodes of a miniseries, not as a full-length movie.
Toward the end of my time watching Channel Awesome, Chad Rocco (aka CR) was my favorite of their contributors, and I was happy to see him in To Boldly Flee. I'm really glad you didn't have anything bad to say about him. He always struck me as a nice guy.
I'm still laughing at how silly some of the former employees are being even to this day. Ellis just couldn't leave well enough alone and ended up pushing obviously fake claims that contradicted the document and some of her own statements previously. Lupa and Linkara running defense for her during this was also an eye opener. They just cannot keep the story straight.
It's because they're transparently toxic liars...and I say this as someone that is not particularly a fan of Channel Awesome (not that I hate it or anything). They're simply bad people.
That comment about how "they can't let it go" really rings true. Lupa and Phelous did a review on the Street Fighter movie and they still put #ChangeTheChannel all over.
@@darthgamer9861 It actually ended (at least so far) in April last year. _Finally_ I guess this particular AVGN clone became just noteworthy enough to attract some diehard anti-fans. While the year between Suburban Knights and To Bold Flee was the year I fell out of the community (while still staying with RolloT as his artist), this movie right here is what made me just walk away. It was too much. I think by this time we'd dropped the TGWTG podcast and moved to doing Weekly Manga Recap over on LordKat's website instead but my memory is a bit hazy. Regardless of that this movie was unbearable and what made me just stop and not look back.
I feel like this behind the scenes drama is needed to point out and clear out how exaugurated it is, cause there was a recent documentary on Channel Awesome where it doesn't really do that.
SadPanda didn't fall into obscurity. He's now a massive contributor to another patrician French RUclipsr; Joueur du Grenier. Who's like, the french AVGN and the only French RUclipsr who actually puts effort in his stuff and who's not a sellout.

8:30 True. We've seen from current events that Doug Walker is doing rather well. His Nostalgia Critic show is still going full steam, and it still nets a decent following, as opposed to many of the Change the Channel people, whose followers continued to shrink until they basically became the equivalent of Z-list celebrities. The only one among them who had real talent outside of Doug was Spoony, and we know how his story ended.
Phelous seems to be doing well enough-but then he's also one of the few former TGWTG contributors that had completely justified professional grievances with the way the Walker Brothers ran their business, so...
@@DistractedGlobeGuy Yeah I noticed that about Phelous. His grievances definitely were grounded and believable and it looks like he didn't go on a crazy rampage like Lupa did. He just stuck to outing his grievances in the document and that's it. He didn't go Twitter crazy like some of the CTC crowd did.
@@shadow_raven1983 it helps in his case that he also explained his issues publicly at the time rather than sitting on them for years waiting until he could benefit from Walker's failure.
Lewis' handling of the Channel Awesome controversy became much more pathetic recently. The anniversary movies were removed from the channel and Lewis got pissy because they were a part of his pitiful, pathetic wish-fulfillment fantasies (or as he likes to call them, this "ChAnNeL LoRe") and wanted everyone to follow them (rather suffer through them). He's surprised that the people who burned bridges with axed the projects he worked on. Like, dude, you brought this upon yourself! And he doubled down by stating that he keeps posters of the movies in his studio because he's "proud of them". Proud of the movies they were "abused" and "miserable" during their productions.......sure 😒 You were right. Doug didn't need these people, they needed him.
These people show one a small scale what melodrama goes on behind the scenes at Hollywood. Imagine these people with thousands or even millions of dollars and larger production teams to take out their frustrations on and you can kinda see why everything is a mess over there.
Ngl, this was the film stream that I think got me joining your crew, and I'm pretty thankful. That said, maybe my brain is fried, but the heavy plot doesn't feel that convoluted to me considering a lot of the Channel Awesome films are callbacks to other references made in the past. Other than that, considering my knowledge of the old is not that well preserved or I didn't watch everyone but heard of them secondhand, maybe some of the references may fall flat on me. (Also, Linkara's ship in the movie is actually formerly the ship of his main villain at the time Lord Vice, which he took over after beating him and I think installing an AI he called Nimaway in order to keep it running as well as making sure there were no failsafes Vice put in in order to destroy the ship. Think it was called Comicron 1 or that was the second ship's name). In any case, I hope you have fun doing the Atop the 4th Wall Movie, because that one is the culmination of all the Lore at the time I assume. Haven't seen it, but I recall dude was promoting it a lot after certain events had transpired in his AT4W universe.
One thing to bring up about this movie’s length. To Boldy Flee didn’t actually start out as a movie. It was actually a multi part mini series that was just compiled into a movie.
The Spoony/Insano thing is even more confusing than you think. Originally, Insano and Spoony Were the same person, but really on in his reviews, he died in a gag. Linkara cloned him as a gag in Spoony's review of the Clones of Bruce Lee, with a clone Insano and Spoony Bum also being made. I think eventually the original Spoony was resurrected and killed the clone but this all hazy half memory of dumb sketches from a decade or more ago.
Would love to see Doug watching all these videos - high chances are that he'd approve of them all and laugh at his own expense. Others? Hehe, not so much.
I don't watch Nostalgia Critic as much as I used to but that show will always have a special place in my heart. I deeply miss Spoony, i always enjoyed his content and I hope he is doing well nowadays. I am still a regular viewer of Angry Joe though and I'm very happy to see that he's still going strong after all these years.
Spoony saying that The Bureau was a betrayal of the XCOM fandom doesn't even rise to the level of a stunt; it's just an impromptu angry review very much in keeping with the tradition of every other CA member shouting about things everyone knows are bad already
This series is a great lesson in not just believing victims or whatever the current buzz-phrase is. You shouldn’t disbelieve either, you should just think critically and not blindly side with one camp.
You'd hope people would take this lesson away, but reading the comments it seems everyone is now blindly in the DOG WALKER GOOD ACTUALLY camp, instead of facing the truth (that everyone involved was an incompetent big-headed moron)
@@ExValeFor the fact that you had to spam "THE PEOPLE ARE THINKING DOUG IS A GOOD GUY WHEN HE IS AS INCOMPETENT AS EVERYONE ELSE AND DESERVES SCRUTINY" even in comments that don't mention his name just shows your stupidly obvious bias. I've noticed something when I ask people who are in the know which Channel awesome movie is their favorite (either ironically or unironically) People tend to be split depending on which one they watched first Suburban Knights or Kickassia but everyone agrees that this movie is the worst of the three and most including myself have trouble getting through it
BLACK GUY! WOMAN! GET IN HERE! As agonizing as I'm sure it was, thank you for delving into this rabbit whole and pointing out the exaggerations and outright lies in the document. Everything surrounding Channel Awesome in the past few years has just reeked of pettiness and jealousy. As early as Kickassia, you can see it. One of the complaints in the document is that Doug's script was too similar to his own sense of humor and didn't portray the critics' stupid personas properly. Y'know, when each of them are supposed to be ACTORS portraying the writers' characters, like in every movie ever made? It's really telling that Channel Awesome lost most of its traffic when Nostalgia Critic ended. For all the complaints about Doug's lack of talent on Demo Reel and whatnot, it was 100% his right to continue or end the character, and 100% the responsibility of each of the individual critics to continue being successful without riding his coattails. The fact that they almost every single one of them crashed and burned, eventually, shows that they were somehow less talented than the high-pitched screaming meme man. The fact that so many youtubers continue to attack Channel Awesome based on the document to this day, I think, shows how jealous they are at being less successful than Doug. So yeah, thanks for actually telling as much of the truth as possible. You and Oneyplays are singlehandedly restoring the reputation of an old internet relic.
The best thing about the movie is that it is a _sequel_ to To Boldly Flee. After his departure at Channel Awesome, he _really_ loved shitting on Doug in various tweets (usually various ways to assure the internet that _Linkara_ is the superior reviewer/director/writer/actor, because the dude's ego knows no bounds and he _loves_ lavishly praising himself), and yet _his_ movie makes no sense without knowledge of Doug's _worst_ movie. And all so he could keep his precious MechaKara continuity or something.
When that "change the channel" stuff all came out, the Jew Wario stuff I thought was potentially bad (why weren't the cops brought in?) but all along that stuff though I thought...."Why don't you just quit and move on to greener pastures?" I'm glad other people are questioning this stuff and accepting that most of the people on TGWTG were not that popular or talented and were riding NC's coattails to success. Oh well.

It's nice to know that Channel Awesome kept the tradition of the third film often being the worst part of the trilogy.
To be fair, the other two were just as bad, it's just that this one stretched itself far too thin.
That "third film being the worst" theory is only true in some cases, such as The Godfather Part 3, Alien 3, Spiderman 3, Superman 3, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Robocop 3, The Rise Of Skywalker, Return of the Jedi, The Matrix Revolutions, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Bad News Bears Go To Japan, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, Austin Powers: Goldmember, X-Men: The Last Stand, Home Alone 3 OKAY OKAY YOU MADE YOUR POINT!!

CRIIIIIITIIIIC!!!!
Okay but is it pronounced last action hero or last action hero?
Good to know
Yeah I kinda had a whiplash from watching Joon the King vid then to Almighty loli vid.
Joon tends to softball a lot of the people he talks about in his videos. It gets really annoying
That image of Jewario thinking about George Takei has aged beautifully.
Oh my......
XD
They had delusions of grandeur, thinking they had become "real" stars because they were hanging out in their own little video site.
and the thing is, no one really asked for them to go dramatic or get super in depth.

The Mayans didn’t predict 2012 as the end of the world, they predicted this famine being released to the universe.

What I remember most about To Boldly Flee are these two things:
1) The Spoony Drama and his departure from the site happened right before it was completed, which made the entire thing even more awkward than it already was.
2) I watched part of it while having Monday Night Raw on the TV in the background, and it was the episode where Jerry Lawler had a heart attack and almost died on air. It was a weird night.

I really don’t see what the big deal is, everyone there was an adult. If you raise concerns about conditions/somebody is being a pervert and you are ignored; leave. The linkara bit running while sonic frontiers music played was hilarious, thank you for that.
I think what people saw when they watched the tape from the ring was the entirety of the nostalgia critic movie trilogy compressed into a few seconds.
Is he?
(Whatever is left that is...)
I'm not a Nostalgia critic fan by any means.

What is _not_ a rumor is her starting to hate Brad with the passion of a thousand suns when he decided to stick with his BFF in this "war".
the channel Kinkylinky has documented a few of Lupa’s insane adventures.
@@EvilDoresh it wasnt as clear cut back then. But i am a self-proclaimed [late person]

@@oz_jones Some people pretend they’re better than it but it’s influence is basically everywhere.

He's surprised that the people who burned bridges with axed the projects he worked on. Like, dude, you brought this upon yourself! Proud of the movies they were "abused" and "miserable" during their productions.......sure 😒
You were right. Doug didn't need these people, they needed him.
Linkara and the rest of the change the channel pose were and still are pathetic.
Just seems like a bunch of petty people that are super salty that they never reached the level of fame Doug had.
These people show one a small scale what melodrama goes on behind the scenes at Hollywood. Imagine these people with thousands or even millions of dollars and larger production teams to take out their frustrations on and you can kinda see why everything is a mess over there.
Hollywood is just TGWTG if _everybody_ was Justin Carmichael.

Dude. Lupa is a real life Kyle's mom from South Park. I swear.

Mucho texto, nobody's reading that
Can't wait to see how you and shota survive a stream of linkaras movie
P.S am I the only one surprised that there was no rant about Marz kusanagi
She's THAT unremarkable.
Oh well.
Jesus, this one came out soon. Nice work.
