Great Review! I really like the fact that with the more evenly diffused W5, I could see through its hotspot more easily to actually see what you were pointing it at. I want both!
I found out about these by chance, and just LOOKING at it, I could tell the build quality is very good. I think I know what my next purchase is going to be!
I just ordered the w5 for $294 that substantially cheaper than the w4pro. Also got the flip up flood filter, the extension with four 21700 Weltool batteries for $99 total. So double run time and flood. I think I’ll be happy. Thanks for the video and the Memorial Day 30% discount off everything. Excited 😊
You didn’t order a legitimate one at that price not from a reputable manufacturer. I can assure you that because the lowest price that has ever been sold by that company is $400 and they set the prices for any of their distributors or people that sell for them just like Apple sets their iPhone prices for everybody that sells iPhones so you got ripped off and lied to clearly or it’s used
The Owleyes W Pro is an outstanding LEP. The 4M candela is no joke and the quality is good. Probably a step below Acebeam or Olight but I've had no issues. Even have an Owleyes W2 with both emitters swapped for SBT90s. That thing is a monster that can double as a space heater.
Nice! I have a variety of Weltools including a W3 Pro. It's a more reasonable LEP to me. Even at just several feet away, I can see the object actually in the hotspot, no 'white out' effect. Of course, even though it sees far, it's not as far as your lights in the vid but for the size and what it does, again, it's just more reasonable to me.
Thanks for the analysis! Because of your review, I just bought the W4 Pro, and cannot be disappointed in any way by its performance. There are two differences with mine versus the one you tested here: 1) the W4Pro I have does not converge like what yours shows here as the beam stays tight and focused like what you'd expect from a laser profile, and 2) the memory issue is resolved, as the mode returns to Low every time it turns off... I will say though, that the formula for the near perfect LEP is here in these 2 models. Weltool just needs to marry the side mode switch with a sunken protected tailcap activation of the two lights, combined with the knurling of the W5 and the beam performance of the W4Pro and they have a near perfect LEP light.
Ok I bought the W4proTac and the W5 to decided which one I like. The reviewer is spot on. Which light do you want? W4pro is a narrower beam, brighter, gets hotter, a lot less run time especially without extension tube. OR W5 slightly wider even beam, more even white balanced hot spot, a lot less spill, less brightness, usable low beam, side switch, double run time with extension, doesn’t get hot, and a little heavier with the same extension tube. The W5 is the same price as the W4pro even after buying two 21700 and the extension tube. The W5 is more “usable” I believe in real world scenarios because of runtime and beam pattern. But if Welltool made an extension for the W4pro then the difference between the 2 would be heat, brightness, distance, and beam width which the W4pro excels. Ugh I can’t decide.
What is the difference between the W4 Pro and the W4 Pro (Tac)? I'm looking for distance and brightness - would you go with the W4 Pro or the W5? If you wanted to make an impact, which one?
@@internetabyssI was waiting for that answer. I’m ordering one now on eBay. The guy is willing to let it go for $414. I have the W 35 and the Thor three along with the M1. Thanks for helping me make this decision I’ll take the distance.
@@cheule Be more specific on 'quality.' I've had no issues with any of my Maxotchs other than their weird UI. Looks as though the W4 Pro has an even weirder UI though. The Owl Eyes host makes for the farthest reaching commercial LEP I know of, and its heat management is second to none, making for a really well regulated flashlight.
One of them had no glass in front, and when I wiped the convex lens, it scratched because it was plastic. This was on a XSword L2K. I also opened it and a L3K up, and the threads were rough, and the bodies were a little too “lightweight” in my opinion. Agains these are just my opinions, but I think the build quality of the Weltools I’ve owned have all been in another league altogether.
@@cheule Yeah the original L2K didn't have a clear glass lens covering the aspheric, just the colored glass lenses.. The Owl Eyes comes with clear glass as well as the additional filtered ones. I'm not sure about their new L2KD, which is 2nd only to the Owl Eyes W Pro in candela. I had to get my own glass lens for the original L2K I had. I don't EDC these so I guess the amount of machining on the bodies aren't a big deal to me. At least both manufacturers provide great warranties.
LEPs will offer extreme candela and range (perhaps what you are looking for?) but are not very practical in a wide variety of situations because of the lack of spill.
Thanks for doing a comparison! I compared a Weltool W4Pro with an Amutorch BT35 and I've got to say, I like the white beam that a shine-through style LEP produces. That said, the W4Pro is a much better thrower based on candela. I wonder if the laser is emitted with a shine-through LEP 🤔
In my opinion for what i saw in this video, the W4 pro🔦 has a narrower and more concentrated beam, the target is brighter than the W5 (I will buy the W4🔦)
Aren't shine through's supposed to be cheaper? Because they're slighty lesser performers than mirror types? I really like the designs of the weltools. They look really good but way too expensive for the common Joe like me hahaha. I love your videos
I'd recommend getting a bunch of 1mm.x3mm. neodymium magnets for a few bucks to use instead of button tops. You can stack them if necessary in the extension tube and they're hard to lose. I never buy button top batteries.
With the Olight Odin Turbo being the only LEP I’ve ever hand my hands on, thus far, I’ve just ordered the Countycom LEP offering, the “Maratac DX Reach - Rev 2”, which I believe is made by Lumintop, though I’m not positive about that. I’m wondering if you have an opinion or insight on the Maratac. Did I waste my cash or make a decent buy? Thx.
@@cheule What about based on the stated specs and websites images? Can you form an opinion based on that information and your experience and expertise? It’s ok, if not.
I definitely feel so. I sold my Maxtoch L2K. The maxtoch’s light performance is similar, but the build quality and hand feel is much worse. Weltool makes a very solid light.
I mean, they could certainly give you an advantage, to startle or temporarily blind an attacker so you can either attack while they are out of commission or make a quick escape. I can understand that Americans will be dismissive of it, but for us in Europe, there aren't many options, it's certainly better than nothing. If nothing else it can disrupt an attackers ODA-loop (orient-direct-act). But, above all else it should be a tool of awareness (like all flashlights) and that in itself can prevent an attack from even happening.
Are these actually useful at all? I feel like at the distances they’re good at, it’s so far away you can hardly see anything. I’m intrigued by LEPs, but I can’t see how they’d actually be used. I know you kind of touch on it a little at the end, that all they do is put bright spots kms away but would be interested if you actually have any use cases for lights like this.
LEPs are often regarded as one of the more “useless” flashlights. That being said, they illicit the more “wow” factor when you show them off. So take that for what it’s worth!
I can imagine hunting big game animals from a great distance away, spotting the target through a scope and using a weapon-mounted LEP as the lighting source to identify the target through the scope.
My wife's family has a ranch up in the Sierra Nevada mountains that overlook a stream and ravine. We have throwy LED lights for close up range if we need to spot wildlife and the occasional big cat coming around, but they aren't useful for spotting further out down the ravine. These LEPs are the perfect light for doing so, and moreover they don't flood out the entire mountainside to get the job done. These things are very niche in their utility, but they are excellent at that one specific niche. Wow-factor notwithstanding, of course.
Neat, but only good for throw and impossible to use for different situations. The price is to high for what it is for. I have with me the Acebeam w35, I have used it in every possible way. I can confidently say it is better than these two, at a reasonable price too.
