This is a Baxendale Kay Mandocello Conversion. This particular model of Kay Guitars has the perfect neck geometry to convert into a 8 string 4 course instrument. This can be strung and tuned many different ways. It can be tuned in 5ths or in 4ths. It can be tuned like a bouzouki, or an octave mandolin, or a tenor banjo, or many other ways. I like them tuned in 5ths starting with D. This tuning is exactly like a cello only up one full step in pitch.
