    Alonso was offered 7yrs/158m in July 2023. He spit on it. He made a mistake. Now today, he's listed as the 8th ranked 1st baseman in the game. The 3yr/70m is the second best AAV for a 1st baseman in MLB. What's wrong with that? If he doesn't hit the HR vs MIL, these conversation aren't happening. He's clearly in a regression. Three years at 23.3m per year is fair.

      I would hope that when he declined the extension in 2023, he expected to have a bounce back 2024 season and then cash in. Sadly, it didn't happen but he still acting like the 2019 player.

    The Alonso situation is so tricky. Because if the Jays extend Vlad then the price for Alonso goes up. So the Jays don’t want to extend Vlad until they know what’s going on with Alonso. But the Mets don’t want to extend Alonso until they know what’s going on with the Vlad. It’s a chicken and the egg situation

    Ohtani is paying 50% of the money he makes as a brand ambassador which is close to 100M…further, the tourist income for LA is gargantuan thanks to Dodgers and Ohtani. Trust me, if LA was getting only taxes for Shoheis 2M they wouldn’t make a Ohtani Day (May17) for Shohei Ohtani in LA!! 😂

    You guys are unbelievable... Pete Alonso in '23 had 550 non homer at bats (more than most players' full seasons worth) and hit .148. His homeruns weren't game changers and he stranded multitudes. Then last year. Alonso despite his homers that you're so enamored with, he had very little impact on wins and losses. Do you people actually watch the games? The question isn't how much money Pete should get from the Mets but why on earth would they sign him all... I think Stearns doesn't want him

    • @Jbones72
      @Jbones72 8 дней назад +3

      This comment is unbelievable! I’ll come back to this when it’s August and they still don’t have a bat to protect Soto. The Mets excel in allowing their best home grown players to finish their careers on other teams.

    The issue with Alonso is that his stats for the past three years are in the decline and he isn't regarded as a great defender either. Vlady is in his walk year so Mets just need to wait a year or get him in a mid-season trade. Alonso needs to sign whatever the Mets give him, if, he wants to be a Met. Otherwise, he'll end up on a deadend team on a one year deal.

      Dodgers pivoted from Williams to Yates and got a prospect/Comp A pick for Lux instead. Actually makes them even more formidable down the road.

    Finally finally finally a podcast that actually sees reality! It is remarkable how all of the talking Head podcasts on RUclips are reading from the same sheet of paper. These people are so dumb and are subjected to propaganda. Alonzo deserves a contract that is commensurate with his talent this team has given away over a billion and a half dollars to other players that aren't as good as Pete and has not produced at the level that Pete has. The Mets are making a grave mistake and everybody's just following along, like sheep. So thank you for your candidness and accuracy regarding this matter

      @petelappin1131 He's clearly not in a regression and I don't know where you get your information from 2 years ago he hit over 40 home runs and drove in over 100 RBIs last year was his first year that he only hit 34 home runs. That's a bad year for him. I can give you the list of Hall of famers that had down years! Pete's average season is 42 and 112. Good luck trying to get that out of SOTO or anybody else for that matter. He is not in any decline, he plays 162 games and it's extremely extremely durable. Why is he durable? For the same reason that everybody says that he so out of shape blah blah blah. It's because he doesn't work out crazy with heavy weights and that's going to keep him injury free which he always is!

      @@HEBREWHAMMMERRyou are using stats like rbis which hinge on things like who bats in front of you, how good are they at baserunning, etc. If you look at a actually relevant stat like ops, there is an extremely obvious decline in the last two years. You also have an extremely outdated view of weight training, and the dumpy, out of shape 1st basemen(howard, fielder, cabrera,....) age horribly

Most of the injuries that occur in today's players that didn't happen years ago is because of the over excessive weight training That's number one. Number two now with Soto in the lineup Pete will hit 50 home runs again.

      @joshuawheelock8874 and what the hell are you talking about fat and dumpy? Pete is not either of those things. As someone who watched Prince fielder play every day and Miguel Cabrera and others that you mentioned Pete is in better shape than all of them doesn't ever get hurt! Plays 162 games a year none of those guys came close to that as a matter of fact! You people are so quick to want to get rid of what you have because you think the grass is green or somewhere else and it's not. We need his bat in this lineup this year.

    the reason deferrals are discounted is b/c it’s being paid years after it is earned. to illustrate: let’s say a person makes $100k one year but it’s paid 10 yrs from now. it’s worth less than $100k to the person receiving it. on the other hand let’s say someone makes $10k per yr for 10 yrs. the person was paid right away each yr. in that case, the $100k total that that was paid was worth $100k to the person receiving it.
    also, in terms of being able to invest the money and earning interest, that’s precisely why it needs to be discounted. for shohei’s contract, you invest $46m and it grows to $70m ultimately. that’s why it’s counted as $46m when it’s earned.

    • @joshuawheelock8874
      @joshuawheelock8874 8 дней назад +1

      Um no 10k per year over 10 years is not worth 100k. Put simply, any $ made in future years has to be discounted back to today using a discount rate which is the sum of the projected inflation rate and the projected intetest rate. This is how you calculate the net presemt value of any stream of payments. Obviously the more that is deferred and the longer the deferral period, the lower the net present value
