Just started playing this yesterday.
A short backstory; my wife hates video games but bless her soul she lets me game on the big, nice TV in the main room rather than our 32 inch in the bedroom. Which is very nice of her. She usually gets on her laptop or iPad or reads a book & ignores me.
But for some reason this game caught her eye & she instantly started watching me play. So much so that I have to pause it when she leaves the room.
She follows the conversation trees, she gives me "advice", she's 100% into it!!
She probably won't ever pick up a controller but it's pretty cool that she's really digging this game.
P.s., I am too. So far, very very good & way beyond my expectations!
This response qualifies this game as "best ever". Unfortunatly i'm afraid that if i'll get this game it means i'm the one watching her playing...
Yup, the story is truly compelling. They did a great job, not only with the writing, but the way in which they unraveled the entire mystery. Very satisfying, all the way around.

I have 47 hours in the game and didn't get half the collectibles and I'm maybe like halfway through the story. Think I'm doing something wrong...
You're enjoying the game as it meant to be have fun.
If you're ignoring sidequests and go for main only then you can finish it a lot quicker.
But if you want to fully enjoy each bit of the story and play or read all the notes it takes a fair bit longer!

I have about 147+ hours on the game, beat it on easy then the hardest difficulty. It's been a while since I played now, got really lazy lol.

The game was originally made for ps4, but now you need a stronger pc than ps4 and it may turn bad like most games

You didn't mention how fluent and amazing the day/night cycle is, as well as the weather systems.
Actually, I found the day night transition to be way too fast. Within a minute, it would get dark from light and vice versa

Have Sony gone mad giving away Horizon and even the complete edition. Usually they're so stingy and only give base game. Yes it's a promo for the sequel but still this is 100% free so I can't even complain

What cons did he mention?
The bosses and some of the dino-bots (that's what I'm calling them) can be somewhat of a grind. The inventory fills up a lot, The combat is either hit or miss. Exploring isn't all that exciting (But ends up being worth it in the end)
The story can seem to serious, the main protagonist though being a bad ass can be kinda bland etc.
because a lot of cons are personal opinons. i like massive games, i like to explore every corner, so having stuff to do even tho they are random generated and bland quests it just makes me have something to do on a spot that otherwise i woud go there and it would be empty

Chase I'd rather have a cool sounding name rather than one that makes sense, but sounds dumb. An example:
Detroit: Become Human. It makes sense, due to the game taking place in Detroit, and the whole Android with feelings plot, but it sounds dumb. And then compare that to Horizon: Zero Dawn.

2 years after this video, I am now almost at the end of all the side quests and 50 hours in. The game is huge, combat action is intelligent, you cannot rush through it, you never feel overpowered and have to use strategy. Story is amazing. And this is before I even got to the Frozen Wilds expansion. Definitely restored my interest in the genre.

The accuracy is crazy. My Xbox is used only for Netflix and RUclips when there's nothing to play.
Aloy is far from bland. She starts off as someone who isn't entirely confident in her own abilities, unsure about where she came from, and angry at those who shunned her for years. Throughout the game she grows in confidence and becomes very aware of what she is capable of. When she finally does get the answers she seeks, she goes through a bit of an existential crisis and while it doesn't last long, she chooses to live her life the way she wants. By the end of the game she has made many friends and allies, including those who shunned her.

Her character arc and story aren't bland but her interactions with other characters do tend to be a bit on the boring/serious side. I think those that are making this complaint expect something similar to a character like Ellie from TLoU, who has many dark, serious moments...but also has more light hearted, interesting instances that add more to her character. Aloy doesn't have many of these moments

As a STRICT «always melee over range» person, I was a little sceptical of this game, but let me tell you that this is the only game I’ve ever played where the bows are cooler than the spears. I liked bows in botw, but more like a secondary tool than a «heat of battle» weapon. The bows in horizon are so smooth and intuitive, and you can really tell that the world is made for a bow. I also love the attention to detail in the weakpoints of the machines. There are so many elements to this game, like the design of characters and outfits that just blow my mind. My favorite thing might just be the animation of the faces. They’ve managed to make the most expressive and vibrant, living faces and body languages I’ve seen in a game. Get this now.

it's not often i say money well spent on a video game, i can add this to the list (PoP warrior within, The Witcher 3, Uncharted). i had no expectations for this game at all but goddamn did this game blow me away everything about it is incredible. 10/10
@Kegan Gowen that'd be cool if the bow n Arrow mechanics weren't broken, melee straight up laughable, and hit detection outclassed by N64's Goldeneye. I only played 2 hoursish, after the 3rd straight time of being killed by the whoosh of an enemy's clearly missed attack I called it quits lol.

The witcher 3 is for ‘nerds’ who have too much time on their hands and who actually think they are Geralt, it is cool if you have that kind of imagination. But I prefer to be me and live in the real world. So games like that take up waaay too much time. Just give me RDR2 or something. I am still fighting out if I am gonna buy Horizon or not though.
You know the game is good when you want to find every little detail in it, I literally explored the entire map, from the lowest cave to the highest mountain. Searching for the lore, the hidden messages, every quest. Even after the final mission, I went back. dissecting the game, its characters are believable to the point where I wanted to help them. Combat is phenomenal, you can get crushed if you enter unprepared(just like normal hunting), the game forces you to utilize your tools in order to overcome obstacles.
Definitely a game worth buying from a company that puts its products and reputation 1st before anything else, which is a rare thing to find nowadays from AAA developers.
Sounds like more than 30 hours, more like 80 hours if you do everything like I do.

I would say that the only thing Xbox One has is Xbox 360 backwards compatibility. Then again some of the best PS3 games are available as Remasters on PS4 like Last of Us, Uncharted 1 - 3 and Heavy Rain. If only Konami did the same with MGS4 :(

I'm a Nintendo fan but this game does look really fun. You guys enjoy this game while I'll enjoy Zelda. Both definitely have their pros and fun gameplay

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I have a PS4, I know how "powerful" it is. And Roy, that is a lie that I'm surprised people still believe. Very rarely do I have to spend any time trying to get a game to run, because unless you are 4 years old, the PC isn't very complicated.
that's not the point tho, lots of games face problems when released on PC, and it's from the dev's end and not the player.

First game I ever got platinum! And enjoyed every minute of it. Not once did I feel bored with this game. Truly one of the best games I've ever played. Can't wait for the second one coming in a year or two.

I also have PC and PS4 and would rather play on PC, but that doesnt mean the game is bad. FF15 is another game i wish was on PC. I can understand about 30fps tho. I would like 60fps too.
I own pretty much every Assassins Creed and Far Cry game on PC.
I dunno if you were watching this video at all because Gameranx did note that this game has some pretty big faults and that if you're not into Assassin's Creed's or Far Cry's formulas, then this isn't the game for you.

The same here -just take my money. This to me looks like a delicious enchilada of Far Cry Primal, Tomb Raider and Witcher 3. Plus some great post-apocalyptic setting.

Doddery feline People always say Far Cry games are repetitive but that's the fun part. It's fun taking out enemies using different methods and the side quests are all different so you don't get tired of doing one type of side mission.

I actually loved the side quests!! I liked how all characters you meet seem like realistic people, they have humor, they flirt a bit with Aloy and they're all remarkable in their own way. Another big thing is that when you're done playing this game you can start again on a another difficulty level. It goes from easy to ultra hard and even easy ain't that easy. You can choose to keep your inventory when you start over or just start again with nothing.
This is one of the reasons why I bought my ps4, aswell as the upcoming Spider-Man Game.

This game is a straight up masterpiece, I finished it once, then on another console I got to the last level and didn’t complete it, I just ran around collecting items, completing side quests, and killing everything when I get bored with 5 simple ways,
1. Traps
2. Override machine’s and making them fight
3. Silent attacks with a spear
4. No hiding 1v1’s
And
5. Sniping with bow
My rating for this game is 10/10

Geralt von Riva I don't think it's over rated since many didn't know too much about it. Guerrilla games were pretty tight lipped. I wouldn't say it was one of the most anticipated. It was pretty much under the radar compared to games like Killzone that had a huge following. If anything it surprised many people. They were working on HZD at the same time as killzone shadow fall but it was a smaller team working on HZD. They never envisaged how well it would be received. They were taking a risk by going out of their comfort zone and it paid off. If anything I would say RD2 was over rated and over hyped since it was all anyone was talking about before release (due to the series established fanbase) and had the lime light when it came out, though a well designed game, beyond the graphics I struggle to see how it qualifies as a masterpiece considering it is a prequel and we all knew how it was going to end before we played it due to it showing the early life of the protagonist whose fate was sealed in the first game. Some will say it's the journey, I would say it was a wasted opportunity to tell an original story set in that time period since it adds nothing to the main game, but that's just me.
Sorry but RDR2 is miles ahead of HZD. We clearly have different opinions but hey nothing wrong about that. :) I just think it is an amazing game but it was just a little bit to empty. Little bit boring beside from the main story. Mainstory to gameplay it was an A+ imo.

I think that Horizon is pretty cool because it offers so much variety of play....For example I got the game and I really enjoyed taking my time. I enjoyed training and growing my level and upgrading my pouches before taking on a mission or a side quest...i usually do this by going out to find collectable and rare items and killing everything in my path. After all this amazing game play my friend heard how much I was enjoying it and got it as well. He played it completely different to me....His main mission was to explore and find the biggest baddest creatures and learn the best and fastest ways to take each one down, growing his level in the process. Then obviously our other mate heard us enjoying it and went out and got it himself....his choice of gameplay was different again....he started the game and all he wanted to do was complete main missions and maybe do some side quests and hives on the way. My very long point is that 3 different ways of gaming and playing the game were all equally as rewarding as the other and this is one of the best qualities of Horizon, and the amazing graphics. I know that Neil Druckman played this game for a video he did for Sony and he said that "the graphics were amazing" and that he went back to his to team, showed them the game and said "This is the bar we need to work to."

There is no variation in this game it is repetitive and extremely boring, there aren't different ways to play this at all, maybe a change of weapons at most but it is one set path which will be the same for each way you wish to play it.
Same enemies each time, repetitive missions, boring unfullfilling combat, no variation to each battle, basic weapons, bad voice acting, boring protagonist, linear dialogue choices that don't effect outcome in the game what-so-ever, bad map layout, underwhelming story, pointless tasks: go here kill that or collect the same items over and over, constantly being harassed from enemies, allies are useless, distances are too great and character is too slow to traverse them, bad camera angles, predictive AI, upgrade system is pointless, the levelling up system is pointless which is just am increase of a number and +10 health, bad waypoint system, too much glare which strains the eyes, main character is annoying, NPC characters are drab and uninteresting, picking up items more than actually playing the game, cut scenes and in mission dialogue are far too long, most times longer than majority of the missions if you minus travel time, the stealth system is pointless and unneeded in combat, a large map that feels empty to which you can't interact or go inside houses to talk to people with any dialogue of substance or loot or find items and the big one for me; not an in depth thought out game for a PS4, I have played ps2 games which are better thought out and had more incentive and enjoyment to play, for example I'm playing final fantasy 12 TZA, it blows this game out the water and has way more variation and story and character depth and relatablity and it's 15 years old!!!!.
We should expect much more and deserve much better from a ps4 than what this game delivers and other contemporary RPG games.
The good things were that the graphics were good, I won't take away from that even though they weren't by far the best.
Overall 3/10 for me.

I’m watching this after I bought it, but before I played it...
My wife and I love it entirely. She was a huge fan of far cry 3, 4, and primal and I am a huge fan of the uncharted series, the witcher 3, and assassin's creed 2 and 4. This game pull elements from all of those games and creates a whole new experience with a whole new land. It is similar to those games but plays much differently given your resources.
I love how smooth the gameplay actually is, how intuitive the setting and story is, and how beautiful the graphics are. It has a nice weapon and armor modding system. The skill and leveling system is easy to follow and very cool. It's also surprisingly difficult, rewarding planned attacks, quick/accurate shots, and skillful evasion. Not saying it's really hard but just that it's harder than I expected.
My only real gripes are that I wish some of the weapons were more effective, stats were more clear, and that fast traveling was easier. Other than that, if you own a PS4, this is definitely worth buying at full price and I think it's in the running for game of the year for sure.
Those are all my favorite games, this totally sounds like my kinda game!!

@@mr_mobilegamer1190 The game isnt that good, ive just ended yesterday and omg how hard it was for me to end it, the facial expressions are weird, the movement is horrible since you have to convert a certain type of robot, or else u are confined to fast travel, or going on ur foot, the world is boring besides the main quest but the story is okay, the graphics and art are amazing, with almost 0 bugs the game runs fluid on my PS4 slim, but i would say u will notice this isnt a Goty quality

NO SPOILERS HERE: I like the freeflow conversation you have about your take on the game, but I wish you emphasized a little bit more on how magnificent this game REALLY is....
Yes, it has typical (but really well done) Side Quest (also these other types of Side Quest called Errands, which sometimes ends up being better than Side Quest....weird lo) and it will never match up to the level of CDPR, but holy fucking hell Guerilla Games managed to come REALLY close for their first Open World Action RPG game.
The gameplay isn't just stealth - theres pure action, dodge and trap setting and even melee combat that happen to be simple enough to just enjoy and see. The take downs are really fucking cool.
You downplayed the graphics - it is simply THE BEST looking fucking game hands down, there's even skin foldings on LIPS.....fucking LIPS. Graphically, this game does TRUE tessellation on top of other elements; especially the vegetation and draw distance. It is fucking MIND BLOWING seeing this at checkerboarded 2160p resolution. Put all that together with the art direction and the ruins you encounter is simply fucking jaw dropping. sure, it would look godlike on PC with 120fps (I would love that) but its not on PC and yet still tops I think all PC games without a problem, graphically.
And these dungeons you explore, they are fucking INSANE, seriously, insane. It's not only gorgeous to look at, but it is a joy to explore. Speaking of exploring - there is ONE issue I have with this game....I was hoping for loot drops xD I really wanted to have a wide variety of weapons, but alas it's only earnable and purchasable. Even though the weapons are fucking Great to use.
I haven't finished the game (only 23hrs in) but I am loving everything about it. And sure, it borrows from Bethesda and CDPR (even GG admitted they got help from them) but that's EXACTLY the elements we want in this game. If it was missing, we'd have a far cry against them.

The pacing in this game is too obnoxiously slow for me. The game has a generic story and they focus too much on it, so much that it gets on the way of the real fun and interesting part of the game. The world is really cool and the gameplay is fun, but the fact that it basically has a 3 hours tutorial makes me want to kill myself.
Another thing I don't like is how unexpressive Aloy is. Most of the time she has witty or joyful dialogs with a completely straight face, it's just awkward.
It is quite predictable. It's a coming-of-age story about a character who was segregated and no one believed she could do anything, but trains to prove them wrong and her quest ends up being bigger than she thought it would, involving matters of higher impact on the world around her.
Most of the characters are quite bland and you can easily guess what's going to happen next.
A lot of anime series follow that formula, it's like watching Naruto all over again.
I had no expectations about this game, I just bought it a year after it released (The Complete Edition) because I heard lots of positive chatter about it on social media platforms and on RUclips. After finishing the story, to me this game is just about perfect. I would give it a 10 out of 10 rating. The graphics, and the world was among the most beautiful open worlds I have seen in recent games. The story was amazing, intricate and original. I can't find many flaws with it. Guerilla Games did one hell of a job with this game, and they deserve to be commended. I am not interested in finding tiny, insignificant errors here and there to discredit their hard work. I think this game deserves a solid 10 out of 10 rating. If you haven't played it yet, and if you have enjoyed open world games like Skyrim and Far Cry then you should definitely pick it up. It's awesome. It is one of the best games that I have ever played.

I found nothing to nitpick this game had a great story amazing detail i always enjoy looking around i just loved everything about the game, games like this are pure joy for me as you can see how much work and love went in to making it by the finished product. Man those thunderjaws and rockbreakers are so tough and the big electrical bird tough to take down but feel so good when you do.

I can't remember a game I had more fun killing things in everything you kill has use for all kinds of parts for tons of upgrades and stuff to buy. First thing you need to do kill lots of animals because you want to upgrade how many slots and stuff you can hold on to because its a big time loot game.

I literally bought a PS4 Slim just for this game. Im so excited! Aside from the other PS4 exclusives, I am honestly extremely excited for this game.
Because im a Xbox guy. Bought a PS4 just for the exclusives so I didnt want to spend 400 bucks on something I wont be using a ton.
I dont know if I will ever get rid of my Xbox. 99% of my friends are on Xbox.

And here we are 4 years later, and this is by far and still is the BEST Open World game out there. (At least for me).
Yep, I just finished the last main quest and it is still one of the best open world game, love the world building and reading all the text files which builds the world and history even more
