As a fellow TWD practitioner, I appreciate this video a lot. However, I don't think chopping cucumbers on people's belly with a sharp katana is necessary. There must be other ways to demonstrate the accuracy of swordhandling without putting people's safety on the line.

For good taekwondo schools, it should take over 2 years, with most schools not giving out black belts to those under 16 because they are not mature enough, but unfortunately, most schools in america have this promise where as long as you meet all the requirements (regardless of how trash your technique is) you'll most likely get your belt in under two years.
now, with martial arts like karate, judo, and jiu jitsu for example, you may be looking at up to 5+ years. They give you your next belt when they feel like you are ready and at a proper maturity level, not just because you can regurgitate the moves on test day.

Odd mix for kinda gimmicky martial arts stuff with some traditional TKD. I sometimes think the commercialisation side of running classes leads to this kind of unnecessary stuffing. Just hang bangs and train hard, drop the tippy toe tit for tat demonstrating fighting, just train for the ring. All the traditional karate/TKD variants need to drop the floor dancing competition/routines and transition to the ring or the cage.

Sparring should always be included, even for older practitioners. Also, the stunt stuff/tricks should be eliminated from real testing. Bed of nails, cucumber cuts, etc. At least these guys seem to maintain decent fitness unlike a lot of other “masters” I’ve seen. Finally, it is not about beating people up, but if it’s a martial art , the emphasis should be on fighting abilities, not the more esoteric, philosophical concepts which would be learned and demonstrated through hard physical training by any dedicated practitioner in a good school.

  • @loots0533

Makes a mockery of tae kwon do which is an unarmed martial art. Tae kwon do being the way of the foot and the fist.
It’s also ridiculous charade of somehow suggesting there is an actual test for promotion to Master Instructor ranks beyond the actual ceremony and a short demonstration. Master Instructor ranks are not about cutting cucumbers with swords. It’s about service to the art and promotion of the art through leadership. The Master instructor is not the best fighter or all that nonsense you see in movies. The Master instructor is the one who sets the standards and values of the art.
Its hard to see how any of what they were doing relates to the original kwans of tae kwon do. I suppose these days people can just make stuff up and call it tae kwon do. It’s a joke.

True TaeKwon-Do is UNARMED....NO weapons used or trained with.
Also, take the spacers out from between the blocks and then TRY to break.
Man, this new TKD is so much show and junk!
I am a retired 8th Dan Master Instructor in Chang Hon TaeKwon-Do.... 42 years. I learned the "real deal" and that's what I taught.
