On a dark and stormy night ... a man walked into an AT&T (Cingular) Wireless store in Norridge IL (the HIP for those that know). I was at the counter, alone. The man told me he came in to buy his girlfriend a pre-paid phone and at the time that required an ID. His drivers license read William Corgan Sr and I commented that he shared a famous Chicago name. He took an exaggerated look around and said he usually didn't like people to know but he was the father of Billy Corgan, the famous musician. I sort of gushed about how I was a big fan, and he proceeded to tell me how proud he was of his son. He wasn't very interested in talking about his music, he wanted to tell me how smart his son was. How he had this nice house, and owned very nice things. How he had navigated the music business and come out on top by working hard and outsmarting the record executives. It wasn't until later I learned a little about Corgan Sr's history and his relationship with his son. Spaceboy has always had a special place in my heart, a meaning beyond the beautiful melody.
