Whenever a star tries to have a gravitational pull on thra, thra just starts yellong back to it. “you dare try to control thra?! THRA CAN BARELY CONTROL THRA!”
There is so much love for Aughra, and yet everything that happens is basically her fault because she is naive. She assisted the UrSkeks in their attempt to purify themselves and Raunip (and Gyr) unwittingly caused the Great Division. Then she basically abandoned Thra to the Skeksis because she preferred to travel the stars even though the Skeksis had cracked the Crystal and clearly were not going to care for it as she would want.
I think it was less the crystal, but more the fact they devolved over time, the Skeksis are basically drive and ambition not tempered by wisdom and empathy. Combined with the fact they all hung out together in one single place without anyone to check their impulses, Skeksis culture brought out the worst in them and discourage what good was left, I think it’s telling Skeksa, the one Skeksis who lived almost completely separately from those in the Castle (not to mention living with Gelflings and other mortal creatures) was the only one who maintained her feathers and generally healthy look.
Makes sense. Lol I saw a clip of when they were doing the scene in the movie when Jen meets her, and Augra had Yoda's voice. 😂I really shook me to the point where I didn't know when to laugh or twitch. Nothing against Master Yoda...but good gravy, it just seemed so weird.
I'm sure they will make at least 3 seasons. They can't introduce 7 clans and then kill everyone off haha. I would think we're about to get a ton of new material. And i just did a video about Aughra's son today, i think he will return!
Wouldn't be more appropiate to call her as Thra's messenger and the closest/chosen one? Gotta love her cranky and lovable attitude, as the concerned and stubborn granny that she is.
But she isn't just thras messenger she's literally mother nature to them, she feels and suffers as the planet does connected to all it's creatures hence the only way that the skeksies could pull their bullshit is when she was on her voyage through the stars and disconnected from the planet
Thank you for all these explanations on the world and characters. I’ve tried to follow several others attempting to do the same here on RUclips but they seem to just tangent and jump back and forth too much. These vids are perfect! Subscribed!
Aughra is who she is because of Frank Oz and Billie Whitelaw. They gave her the voice and mannerisms that Oz was famous for. She was over-the-top and wild like Animal or Cookie Monster, wise like Yoda, a bit of a diva like Miss Piggy, gentle like Grover, and maybe even a little like Bert but I won't go there.
The new series really developed Aghras character and presenteded her deep connection to the crystal. However, it contradict even more the scene in the original movie were she was not able to recon the crystal shard herself among her collection of pieces of ordinary crystal shards. The gelfling did. Why?
Because her faculties were slipping. In Creation Myths, she confirms that after the Crystal cracked, she was losing her knowledge and memories. After the Garthim War, Thra went completely unbalanced and this is reflected in Aughra's mental decline.
Because she is that and all things amongst it and also she is very very old it's possible the corruption of the crystal being as bad as it was could have clouded her vision of the pure shard wich after all was the power source of the dual glave and several hundred years have passed
I know it's canon, but it still annoys me. Nothing in the original movie suggested anything like this. She was a crazy old lady with an amazing machine and strange relationship with her eyes. The Skesies didn't even recognize her when the garthim brought her to the castle. If she WAS Thra, then why didn't she even know which shard of the crystal she had laying around was the real one?
Wait...so the planet grew a plant(or something like a plant) that grew into Augrah? And why? Why did Thra need an overseer who is interested? What did she look like as a baby or seed 💁♀️
Late, but my interpretation is that she is basically a way for the planet to know itself. Imagine having all this life and grand scenery, but not having the senses to fully witness it.
According to the original comics Augrha was born just as she is but with darker hair to imply her youth in those days, she literally references this in the series "Aughra born old"
This reminds me of something UngIm(the new leader of the urskeks) said to Jen to hold Kira cause she is part of him as their all part of each other , when the urRu hurt the skeksis hurt to but in this case Aughra is Thra and all creatures when the crystal hurts she hurts in her heart just like the skeksis and urRu hurt in the same spot of their body
i always wondered why aughra had a long mustache now i know it's because she had a more masculine side at one point. She reminds me of the old gnostic texts where there is a devine figure that represents both devine male and female aspects.
What I didn't get is why didn't the Skeksis didn't murder Aughra when she was in that coma like state? While the video mention the crystal is like her heart but it would had gotten rid of her body?
If I'm not misunderstood, the Skeksis weren't corrupt from the beginning per se, while they were the urSkeks dark side they weren't fully degenerated like we see later. It is entirely possible that at the start they truly wished to take care of the crystal. Properly speaking, they only really started slipping down the slippery slope when their fear of death got the best of the them and the Scientist discovered how to absorb essence, before that they were mean and greedy but not that much more than some of the Gelfling we were presented to. Also, do not forget that Aughra was suppose to be traveling the universe - which is infinite. So it is also possible that the Skeksis never considered the possibility that she would return at all.
like Gabriel said they weren'tevil from the beginning when the mystic started moving away from them they became more grey gentle characters and befriended Aughra and wished to continue the research on the crystal as their former urSkeks using the crystal to keep on living fear of death made them lost it and its also hinted that living corruptly makes them more corrupted, some skesis were just selinfly taken things from the gelfings , holding the vast riches for themselves while not sharing anything with gelflings or other creatures of thra
When it comes to all the hermaphroditic(skeksis and Aughra) or gay characters(Deet's dads), Dark Crystal is the perfect example of how to be progressive without being woke
Emilio Hidalgo Wow, I didn't even realize that there were gay characters in Dark Crystal? How does it work? Do they adopt children (Deet) or use some form of magic to beget children, haha.
@@matiasluukkanen7718 Either she and her brother are adopted or their dads had a surrogate . And skekEkt, the Ornamentalist, is basically a crossdresser
Dont forget there is also one Skeksis, (forgot her name) who indeitifies as female and they use female pronounces for her, she's the pirate I think and I heard she might show up in season 1
I have a question:If Aughra is thra then how the crystal could took her essence for a brief moment literally draining it self and if the crystal takes life literally feeding on essence but the skeksis took it casing it to grow weaker could Aughra's heart heal if the crystal fed on essence?
This is the first I've heard that there was a 2nd movie. As is so often the case, there should never have been a sequel / prequel / rebooting / whatever.
I think it's because the darkening is more declared as a sickness? She feels that something is wrong and wakes up after they drained the first gelfling (Mira), when the crystal is more and more abused and experimented on... So basically it's her heart that's being abused and getting more and more sick I think... In the age of resistance deet also gets heavily "infected" with the darkening but with her you can see a drastic change (though I think you'll get to know more about this in the second season)... So maybe it is because of Aughra's conscience and the fact that she is Thra in that sense that she is not turning evil? It could also be that her desperate moves trying to light the fires of rebellion are in an effort to not turn evil... Maybe this also happens in the second season who knows, it would be quite interesting tho These are all my own thoughts so idk if that's true...
Aughra is a useless noisy blabber, if she's Thra she can easily defeat the Skeksis and take back the crystal but she's just a blabber. Useless character.
I'd like to point out that, considering that Augra is Thra, then Thra must be the sassiest planet in all of reality.

Aughra being both masculine and feminine explains why she has a slight mustache. I thought it was just because she was old.
Well she is several thousand trine or three years in one)old
I kinda think they meant what they said about protecting thra but longterm exposure to the dark crystal changed them
They were banished from their homeworld because they tried breaking the Crystal of their own world.
I think it was less the crystal, but more the fact they devolved over time, the Skeksis are basically drive and ambition not tempered by wisdom and empathy.
