As an Indian who grew up in Germany, I must say that, Rishi Sunak is a person of inspiration for NRIs abroad. There was always a perception that Indians can go only to a certain level in Europe. Now Indians are getting more confident.
Now that we in India have celebrated a person of Indian origin getting the top job in UK....can we please get on with making India a better place for our young people..so that they can make a good life for themselves here in future...Our Education systems need to become employment generative...Empire bashing is a waste of our time
Thanks, Ms. Jyoti. It is an excellent discussion. The panelists Mr. John and Mr. Tapan are extremely sincere and provided immensely insightful inputs. Once again Wish Mr. Rishi and his team including Ms. Braverman all the success.
We Indians need to stop feeling excited when something happens to validate or discredit our worth. A word about India, good or bad, seems to bring out the best and worst out of us. Are we really so insecure? If we can't identify our own worth and correct our own shortcomings, then I don't we deserve what we're capable of.
I agree with the thoughts shared by the panelists. It's so sad that we have started to celebrate people who have abandoned India for better future elsewhere. In a way, we try to encourage the culture of immigration. Nothing to take away from these guys, but on the long run It's a loss for india.
It doesn't matter where he is born n where he married to. He is still of an Indian ethnicity with his belief system. I mean, which demographic is celebrating his raise in India? Is it Muslim or Christian or Sikh... The Hindus becoz he openly says it and took oath on Geeta. So, Hindu demographic naturally celebrate it especially because he is in top position in a Christian country. Then why Indian majority owning him, coz Indian subcontinent is the birth place of Hinduism including a half dozen suspects... Then why Africa not celebrating it? They have been long been converted from their pagon culture to Abrahamic beliefs... More importantly his family is still to date linked to India
It's not a loss for India, we should be proud of one of our own kind doing well abroad. We do sometimes do not have the same opportunity in our own country. Unless one is born with a silverspoon in our mouth.
If Sunak chose to be in India he might not able to achieve what he made in life. India as a state failed to provide opportunity of quality education, access to employment without discrimination. Unfortunately caste is more important here than credentials.
Rishi is genetically Indian. That's all. Politically he's not Indian. His patriotism lies in the UK, rightfully so. That country deserves his loyalty, for placing their faith and trust in his merit. Indian politics does not reward meritocracy

Every time I listen to Shanker Animesh and Jyoti Malhotra, I change my mind to take print subscription. Unbiased and Unhyphenated just cant be their agenda.
Jyoti Malhotra, please don’t put silly questions to the BJP member. Shashi Tharoor and P.Chidabambram have already bashed by the Congress party. Don’ compare Sonak who is a British born Hindu with Sonia Gandhi who is an Italy born Christian. Sonak is not an immigrant whereas Sonia is an immigrant. Try to keep the Print unhyphenated. You are the only person in Print who has biased views.
People go out to better their future. I and my friend studied together, we have the same degree from same college.. but he went to London and is earning a crore/year. There are thousands of people for 1 job, so why would any one pay money?! The people who are living outside are earning and bettering their future. What's wrong with that?
Educated people will get more jobs when more business are opened. Look at China they are able to give employment because they are opening more business and exporting lot of goods. This is Job culture should go and Business culture should come. Look at Tamil Nadu there is good balance of business people and educated job seeking people. Look at Gujarat so many business are opened.
We celebrate the success of an Indian origin person abroad. In all the developed countries ,only talent matters for the top job, irrespective of your color, religion or faith. What you practice with in the four walls inside house , does not matter. Do not make your faith or religion to decide for your suitability for top job. @ThePrint - Is it possible to release transcripts of these debates? The content is really great, as pointed out by many, but sometimes its difficult to find the time to watch 40+ minutes at a stretch.
Great insight by both speakers, in particular Mr Dasgupta. Really good discussion. It's very strange that in India ppl are getting so happy about Rishi getting elected as PM and they start comparing with Sonia. Rishi's family moved from Africa to UK, Rishi is borne and brought up in UK giving him insight of UK culture, history and other things making him more British. While Sonia came to India after marriage and was never got real Indian experience and for same reason this comparison is completely false. Other point which is put forward is that there is no divide or second thought on the colour of the man, which is wrong. If we remember in first round with Lizz Truss he got lost as members choose her even though Rishi had major backing from MPs and was a clearly technically sound option. That's why probably in second round voting was not taken to the members but was limited to MPs. Jyoti ji try to keep it as calm, informative discussion rather than hot debate between schoolchildren as we see on other hindi news channel. :)
Cruella Braverman is a salty arrogant loose cannon on the quarterdeck. Many think she may come a cropper in a matter of weeks tarnishing Rishi in the process for the association.
@33:00 Jyothi malhotra was eagerly waiting how Swapan Dagupta handles Immigration question...waiting for him to falter and counter that with BJP position.... it was funny.
I did not like the line of questioning from the anchor she was trying to put Swapan Das Gupta on the mat for the statements made by the party, even when the panelist made it clear that he may not be a party to these views.
How annoying of this lady to constantly interrupt both guests and her voice is so shrill - please tone it down and wait until either gentlemen have made their point --- uuugggggg totally unwatchable

India has more talent than most other countries. The new stream of youngsters are clever and will ultimately take over from the old guard who are set in their ways. Modi's ground work (pest control😂) will work wonders in the coming decades.
Swapan is bullshitting when he says anybody of a minority in India can come up like Sunak. Big BS. And esp not in Modi's India. Tokenism has been our hypocritical way.
