Porsche Boxster 986 3.2 calipers are usually the go to, I've done the front end ones and honesly it's a better upgrade over the stock M3 setup. Creation Design do the caliper mounts that'll allow for straight bolt in, though for 17inch wheels, you'll need to have 12mm shaved off the mounting pad on the calipers if i recall. HEL do braided lines for this conversion.
Pad choice is free, but you've got a lot to choose from. Personally i run DS2500 from Ferrodo all round with ATE TYP200 fluid. this works very well on the road, and has stood up to sub ten min laps at the Nurburgring (PB is a 9.42 BTG here).
Those wheels are amazing. They remind me of the Merc 190 Cosworth wheels for some reason, so seeing them on the E36 is a bit strange in some shots where you zoom out, but they work beautifully.
That means you don't know what wheels this car had back in the day lol
yeah the wheels + the wing give me cosworth vibes as well
Something to keep in mind if you're looking at bushings for your M3. If you have a facelift M3 96> You're not supposed to run offset lollipop bushings. The spindles and arms already have more caster, and if you run offset bushings you can easily get into clearance issues. Info in the video is correct, pre facelift you can get away with offset bushings.
That's correct. But you can also use of set bushings for standard e36 arms, giving more (better) caster just as the pre face lift m3.
@@fredrikrapp Yeah I am not a 100% sure - All I know is I cant run caster-lollipop bushes on my car, because my wheel setup will hit the front of the fender/bumper. I run 235/45 profile, and full Millway setup
TOT on tv in the background. If the new wheels weren’t a clue, you’re a man of class 🤌
This Old Tony on in the background. Impeccable taste in cars and RUclips channels.
THANK YOU! I've tried to correct myths about spring preload many times in some videos comment sections. Too many youtubers always mention the importance of setting up the pre tensioning and it always makes me pissed.
I've got a set of 525's on my '94 S4... one of my favorite wheel styles of all time - simple, purposeful, sporty 90's touring car vibes. As expected, they look fantastic on the E36 as well.
Man thank you for being a RUclipsr that actually uses quality products on their build, I’m so sick of seeing all these dudes use garbage simply because it’s ✨FREE✨
Rims are amazing!! The entire E36 looks soooo sweet!!
I am so glad to see this bmw being given a lot of love so it can drive again. Excellent job Mike
This bed music is so cool you could film a kitchen aid dishwasher build and it would be captivating.
Loving the e36 content! Definitely correct on using the offset lollipop bushings for the 95M3 LCAs. I'm on adjustable AKG Lollipop bushings now to give me more caster adjustment. If you ever go up to 18" wheels, it may be required to give you enough clearance going lock to lock. Car is looking great!
reverse mounting the front coilovers (left on the right, and right on the left) adds some negative camber, and clearance for aggressive spec wheels. i had 18x10.5 with 235/35/18 and 18x11.5 255/40 rear on one of my e36s . fit perfectly no rubbing anywhere .
I love how your videos are shot.. great quality.. and theres the cars 🤩
Excellent choice on the wheels! Nothing like a good set of five spokes and those HRE's look amazing.
Thank you so much for mentioning spring preload. It's so frustrating how many people get hung up on that.
Glad you went with 235/40! The HRE looks amazing with the ltw wing. Can't wait to see it with the full interior!!
I got some classic 3 piece HRE 547 on my e36 sedan and they compliment the car so well
Those wheels are a match made in heaven! Perfect choice and perfect color combo! Can't wait to see it all complete!
Christmas came early! You nailed it with those wheels. I’m really enjoying this series. Thanks Mike
I see you’re a fan of This Ol Tony! Thanks for the great content. Merry Christmas.
Looking very good, looking forward to seeing the completion.😎
Wheels look great. Spring preload of a linear spring makes no difference during compression/bump but during rebound preload does change the extension force. The shock’s rebound damping curve would need to be adjusted for spring preload. Oh and thank you for keeping the chrome kidneys.
Correct. You do not change the spring rate with preload.
Hard to argue with a set of period HRE wheels. Excellent choice and Merry Christmas to the whole StanceWorks family :)
Merry Christmas to you Mike. Congratulations on the rims you chose. Great thinking with the air hammer. In fact this whole episode is inspired thinking. Happy New Year and all the best from OZ.
Wow nice job, I think that Stance really Works for that car!! Merry Christmas 🎄
Love the wheels, man! What a sick visual!
I'm curious to see the new calipers, tho.
Happy holidays!
Good to see a solid win after the last video, those wheels look sick.
Merry Christmas Mike! Great wheels, and top stance.
Great build, love the progress and wheel choice!
Nice, wheels look killer. Like the content variation, from Ferrari to Ford and BMW 👍👍
Very nice. Love the rims and the amber corners. Looking forward to seeing this complete. SUBBED !!
Awesome content as always. This will be a weapon in the road.
As for preload, obviously that is a real thing, but I expect you said that on purpose. The more preload you add to the spring, the more force you need to overcome the preload and make the suspension work. The danger is adding too much preload means the suspension doesn't work until it's mid corner or something and then the forces overcome the preload and unsettle the car.
Just love watching this build! Thanks Mike and take your time ;)
Looks great! Happy holidays!!!
Wheels are perfect for the car. Looks amazing.
Those wheels are mint! They just work on the E36.
lol those wheels ... but what matters is you like them
happy holidays and thumbs up
Heh, I recognize "This Old Tony" on the TV!
Came here to say this. Beat me to it! 👍👍
Dope build n the wheels look sick. One day when I have money I want an E36 with either a s54, 1/2jz, or even a k24/20 swap. HRE makes 🔥 wheels but u gotta pay to play. Good luck on the build hommie
Great looking wheel choice, Mike! The Nitto NT01 are a very sticky tire, my only complaint when I ran those is the road noise. They sound like you're running mud tires on the street.
on coilovers that have adjustable bodies the preload is really important. while it doesn't change the rate of the spring, it lets you set ride height by pre-compressing the spring and allows you to set an appropriate bump vs rebound length of the shock body. most people simply follow the blind instructions and set 5mm preload on the spring and wind up with no droop travel and wonder why their car rides like shit
front's perfection is only matched by your smile when you put the first wheel on
Gorgeous wheels!! Fantastic choice!!
Beautiful car, I wish it gives you the most joy that you can imagine it can! It really is the best 3 series body Bmw ever made
Nice. My favorite classic BMW wheels are Schnitzers....but these are awsesome!
Clean AF. Love a classic 5 spoke wheel.
Merry Christmas 🎅
My R32 GTR had Work BRS poisons and they look just like those literally the best design ever!
I did the e46 330i front brake conversion. Never had any issues but you have to run a 17" or bigger rim.
330i front 328i rear
These wheels reminds me of the Saleen Stern that was on the Saleen foxbody
I love your content. Enjoying it very much... Then when I noticed you're watching This Old Tony in the background, I knew you were cool. LOL
It might be a bit early but Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year Mike!
just a heads up, 996 calipers dont like to clear many different 17" wheel setups. Some work, depends on the barrel/dropout design
Tighten all the bolts tight. Don’t want someone getting killed
Looks awesome dude!
That LCA is just like the one on Panther platform cars.
Bungee cord idea is one I haven’t seen before. I usually keep bailing wire around just to hold up suspension.
Absolutely love the wheels. Not a fan of the tires; just never like the rim sticking out from the tire. Excellent wheel choice, though. Looking forward to more on the E36!
" I think". Love your commentary on yourself. And yes, the rims do look period correct ( I'm old, so I still say rims- NOT wheels).
Man those wheels look so good on the car!
I think your comment about spring preload is not entirely correct.
On a proper setup with the correct damper lengths, I agree it’s not a thing.
However on the cheaper universal coilovers, where you can adjust the bottom bracket to the damper body, spring preload is a thing. If you wouldn’t put some preload on it, the damper will bottom out on compression.
I would agree on those setups being disadvantageous for performance and general vehicle dynamics
Cool brake project aswell!
Best wheel choice hands down 🙌
Wheels are great Mike. Amber indicators are cool too. Overall it’s coming out sweet
That’s patrick! Hope you’re well bud.
@@stanceworks doing well Mike. Merry Christmas to you and family 🎄
Love it!!! Still getting used to the Wing... Seems out of proportion to the rest of the cars lines.. But its your car so whatever floats your boa! Happy Holidays Mike!
It’s a factory wing, too! I’ll talk about it in a future episode
330ci brakes fit m and non m, they're bigger, cheaper and have more venting than e36 m3 brakes. calipers too. u just wont have parking brakes unless u convert it. i highly suggest it.
Yo those are mad clean.
OG wheels.. look sick.
Look like a split rim version of RUF yellow bird wheels. Nice
Those wheels remind me a lot of Stern Face II's. Nice choice! Any plans to put skirts on it? I know early models just have the metal rockers, but they always look a little naked to me now that I have cars with and without them.
Awesome I too have a set of 17 inch 525 wheels. What size lips are those
Congrats on the progress, nice choice in wheels but I mean come on, you always got dope wheels on your builds. These are pretty special, not an “hre guy”, you’re right though, these are perfect. 🤘🔥😎🔥🤘
Great wheels man.
Is the drivers side rear LCA bushing setup in the right direction? Looks like its installed 180* out of phase?
Like the wheel choice.. where is that one center cap tho?!
Merry Christmas everyone.
Please keep the E36 stuff coming.
Looks awesome. What’s up with that stack of wheels chillin behind the Ferrari? Unless thats the old Model A set… 👀🏎
Probably doesn't really matter, but just if it helps you made a typo in the title. I love all your content! I not only enjoy seeing other projects apart from the k swap ferrari, but i know how helpful it can be to switch between projects to stay motivated.
finally! hopefully e36 is done soon, and track that car pleaseee
Best wheels on that car 🙏😍
This...Looks...Amazing
Those wheels are pefection!
Are you planning on doing the m-twist sideskirts as well? I don't think you've mentioned if so
are you going to do a stud conversion when you do your brake upgrade?
Love the rims!
Those wheels are 😍💯🔥
I see you're watching a bit of the Old Tony.
I thing in does 90´s- 3er only the M3 had a diff lock... check it out.....you need a difflock !!!
Would be interested in having a conversation about spring pre load to help better my understanding
Does anyone know if you can fit 18x9s in the front? I need some help😂
Coming along nicely, the wheel combo is spot on looks perfect for that era of the e36👌
E46 330i front brakes perfect fit, Porsche 996 even better
I wonder what these wheels are named after. 5.25 maybe?
Por-15 brake caliper paint is your friend.
Nice wheels.
Classic HRE's are tits no question.
Perfect?
Well my definition of perfect for the e36 would be Racing Dynamics or 3pc AC Schnitzers.
Or for track duty, FIKSE's.
The HRE's are dope though, and look amazing. Nice work Mike.
hecking heck heck yeahhh!!!!!!!!!!!
Driving me nuts that the one center cap is missing!
The e36 looks great, love the wheel/tire combo. I am new to you channel so please forgive me but what is the plan for the 02 series BMW that is in the back ground?
It belongs to my girlfriend, we will have to ask her!
I am sure she would appreciate an M3 brake, suspension and engine swap. My wife and I were stationed in Germany for a number of yrs and these were the most prevalent builds for any non Tii or turbo 02 series.
Anyway Mike, you have to know that an M3 E36 (or any M) has no compare and completaly apart of the other *3er models. A friend of mine had a M3 E36 with 200.000 Miles !!! The car runned perfectely.M engines are another world, reliable, powerful, durable.
.000
e46 330i front and e46 328i rear should fit. and clears 17s
