Something is telling me this “kitchen renovation” will happen a lot sooner than she thinks 😂😂
Hope so !! 😂
Something is telling me this baby announcement will happen sooner than we all expected!
More like faster than Romeo thinks haha
Exactly. 😂
That was my first thought - there's no space! But I think if she gets a China cabinet in the dining space (I didn't go back to see the room again - I know it's narrow, but think there was room at one end??) and a tall armoire in the family room where the two big paintings are or even a roomy buffet in that spot that she can hang artwork over and put a lamp (or two) on, that should free up some storage. I should have looked before typing this, but there may even be space at the end of the kitchen (where the door is) to put a baker's rack that she could store dishes or serving pieces or appliances on... Even a small pie safe sort of cabinet would hold and hide appliances.
Your vlogs are so therapeutic to me. They help me get out of my head and destress and I can’t emphasize enough how happy you make me when you upload a video!
Same ❤
I feel the same!
Same ❤
Literally what you said ❤
Yaas. I’m so grateful for Macenna and everyone involved. The happiness and inspiration that they share makes a huge impact on my life honestly.
I can’t even begin to explain how much I appreciate the “practical” progress of organization. Understanding a space and creating functionality is equally as pretty-to me-as traditional decorating. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to seeing how you guys make the space work for you as you live in it more!
For a temp solution, on Amazon they have these little circle stickers that are raised like bumps. You put them in the corners on the inside of drawers and cabinets so when you close them it makes it a lot quieter! Instead of the wood hitting wood when they close it’s wood hitting the little bump stickers and it made a big difference in our kitchen for noise! Also a lil WD-40 on the hinges I believe would help with some squeakiness!
Figuring out your kitchen in a new house is a game of “let’s see how this works”. It’s completely different from when you reno a kitchen to work for you(which we just did). I am loving watch you unpack and decorate this new house and beyond excited for the podcast!! More Macenna works for me
what are your thoughts on romeo’s office being downstairs with the laundry machine and the primary bedroom being in the current guest room? it seems to make more sense and be more private. maybe since that room is so large it could eventually be renovated to have an on suite bathroom! 🤍
Yesss!!! It feels weird to have the room downstairs and the office upstairs!!! Also the windows in their primary bedroom make me feel kinda claustrophobic
When they have a family they will also want to sleep on the same floor as the children
I agree. She can totally open the wall the the guest bathroom upstairs to the guest bedroom and put in a lovely bathroom and and stand up. She will never get away from renovations... it's in her blood heheh
I’m quite ridiculously happy every time you upload a video! It’s all the things ❤
"All the things." Indeed.
I am loving this new series!!! Thank you for taking us along and opening up your personal lives to us all!
MaCenna getting a new house is like when your fav tv show launches a new season 🥳
I was thinking the "breakfast nook" space you weren't sure what to do with may be a good spot to put a stand alone pantry situation. Like a wardrobe but for your kitchen?
This! She could thrift a china cabinet or hutch to use as a pantry.
Ahhh!! Im so excited watching this new series! So happy for you girl!!!!!
thank you soooooo much!!!
Omg. Kingsley is a smart 🍪. I love seeing her at that window.
I just love the way Kinsley is looking all the boxes as you open them . She is so curious . You need to make up a box of things n treats for just her and film it as you open it
Nice thing about an older kitchen is it shows you how simpler people used to live. So many of us just have so much stuff these days. I’ve gotten real good at figuring out what’s practical and what just takes up space
I've simplified a lot in the past few years and tried to get rid of extra stuff and it feels so much better to me. I'm not a minimalist but when I look at some minimalist houses it makes me feel so peaceful. Benita Larsson on YT had such a relaxing home before her recent move.
I really recommend sealing the handles of your new knives with Danish oil or mineral oil (food safe). Helps the wood stay strong and healthy for much longer ❤️
Oh, great idea! I should look into this for my new wood cutting board.
If you have empty wall space, perhaps you can do plate rails for your plates to save room in your cabinets! Like Gwyneth Paltrow did in her kitchen in her AD tour! I also really like the idea of hanging your cutting boards. Very European.
This is so fun, watching you settle into your new house! Congratulations on the purchase.
Since you don't really have anything much to go in the 'front' living room area, maybe it would be nice to set up your dining room there. Then when you reno the kitchen, you could take out the wall between the existing kitchen and that dining area back there, and make one large kitchen with a nice over-sized island and a walk-in pantry. It would probably still leave lots of room for a small breakfast nook at the windows overlooking the backyard/pool. Just a thought.
I’m a home organizer for 27 years. When you have multiple of anything:cereal boxes etc. instead of stacking the boxes next to each other as MaCenna place then. Instead put 2nd (or newer box) begin the one in front as you would put soda cans in the fridge. It gives you more visibility & you’ll know what you have & how many. If your knife rack is shifting fold a old kitchen towel & place it in the back of the drawer to brace it.
Great feeling that this house is already your home. Sometimes it takes a little time but you seem so comfortable in your surroundings. What's more...Kinsley seems to be doing well!!! Dogs aren't as accepting of new environments but she seems to be doing well. Congrats with everything!!
Who just clicks like before watching because you know 🫶🏻❤️
heheheheh aww thank youuuuuuu
Hello MaCenna, congratulations to you and your Beloved for the new Home. I believe it's stunning. the scissors that comes with the knifes , I think it's for cutting poultry, from the whole in to smaller pieces. Especially to cut Tru bones, I think Romeo knows for sure.
It makes my heart so happy seeing little miss Kinsley loving life with you in your new home!! ❤ I lost my Soul Dog almost 3 months ago now, and it sure brings me joy seeing you have what I had with my Smithers. ❤ I am so excited for you and your new journey!!!
It is strange to see Macenna working with the space she has, compared to the cottage where everything was planned out, she knew how to utilize the space because she built it! Love all the videos
Get little plastic "bumpers" for cupboard doors to stop them banging when you shut them. They are tiny sticky discs
We also just bought a home in SoCal in September and I swear I am still rearranging my kitchen as I learn what's working or not. I like your idea of turning that shallow cabinet into a dry good pantry. I bet you could thrift (or make!) a china cabinet or hutch and put it in that "dead space" you were worried about between the outside door and entryway to the dining room. Two birds, one stone, etc
OK. Just a suggestion. Maybe put your plates next to your bowls on the right side. It looks to me that you're going to bang your knuckles every time you get a plate out of the more narrow cupboard. Just saying.
The black side board would look good in your kitchen by the window. And you guys can used the dinner room for eating all the time.
I’d love to see you make/create an “appliance pantry”, my home needs one so bad! You are my inspo for all the things like that!
That's a great idea!!
I live in a small cottage with very little space and no storage. My appliances are all kept in an antique cabinet in my living room right by the kitchen door. It’s so close it makes zero difference and I don’t have them cluttering up the place. Now if I can just figure out a way to keep all my decor pieces without looking like I have 3 times the amount I need I’ll be good. 🤣 I’m no minimalist that’s for sure.
if it's possible, i believe best place to put the glasses and dishes is in the cupboard right above the dishwasher! :)
I've been waiting on this all day!!! Need my Macenna fix!!!! These house vlogs are the BEST!!!! I've watched each at least 5x... 😊
Me too 😄😊☺
Hi MaCenns, I posted on your last video, but rather late so I’m putting my comment here, too 😊 I found the antique red stain solution you had been seeking for the cottage. Check out the channel called „The 2nd Empire Strikes Back“ and see episode Sewer Solved!! S3 EP19 at around 6 minutes. He uses shellack with some powders to dye it. I hope you see this comment! Congratulations on your Cali home ❤️ I think it’s a combination of styles but quintessentially Californian. However you style it will be incredible. You really have a designers eye for spaces.
❤️
The scissor things are poultry Shears. They should be strong enough to cut through the breastbone of a chicken
How can it be!? everyday I think about you and your channel. I love everything about it. My husband is always asking : Is there a new video from Macenna? We love you channel and the way you present it.
your*
Just my opinion but instead of pull out on top of the microwave, put one where your pans are so you don't bend over looking in the back of the cabinet. You just pull it out and see everything.
Yes,if she moved the pull out drawer to below the microwave for the pots and pans, the small appliances could go above. Then two baskets for now on top of fridge for cereal and snacks.🙌🏻
That tool you called a 'sharpener' that came with your knives does NOT actually sharpen knives. It's called a honing rod and it realigns the edge of a dull blade by "correcting" or "trueing" the edge but does not really sharpen it. The knife will then not need to be sharpened so often.
Very interesting 🤔👌
Kinsley is too cute inspecting all your packages !!!
Instead of adding another shelf for the plates, you can add a shelf riser for extra storage.
Putting stuff in cabinets - fascinating! inspirational! /s
I think it would be a great idea to use that small room you said was the dining room as a pantry/coffee bar/storage room. You could make it really pretty and functional. Then use your formal living room as the dining room. Just a thought. Love your videos and thanks for sharing with us!!
I personally would’ve tried to put cereal in “pantry” area and put appliances above oven. That way that entire section is cooking appliances.
We’ve been in our house for a year and a half and I just reorganize half of the cabinets yesterday. Sometimes it takes a bit of living with the problem to figure out the solutions. Also, in the narrow drawer I’d put oven mitts or tea towels.
When will you return to Texas? I’m most interested in the house and projects there?
I love the persistence of Kinsley who keeps bringing the blue plastic lid to you for you to play with her!
Too bad it never seems to work. SMH.
I'm really ill at the moment and you surprising us with your beautiful new home has done nothing but cheer me up. Can't wait to see what you do with your home.
Wish you a quick recovery ❤
HUGE tip McCenna that I read: all your silverware, large chopping knives (anything you use to eat or cook with that's silver or gold) should be washed in mild dish soap, rinsed and DRIED. They will last forever and I'm living proof. No dishwasher for my babies.
I love Kinsley is precious . What breed is she ? How old is she ?
I just lost ( Jan 9 2023) my Noah of 13 1/2 years . He was 2 pounds of pure love ( Yorkie ). I miss him so much . I can’t find a honest person selling Yorkies most are scammers 😢 give her a hug for me . God bless you all ❤️🙏🏻🐕
Compared to kitchens here in the uk, yours is huge, with so much storage. I love it!
MaCenna, I was tired of giving up space in the kitchen cabinets for appliances I need, but use rarely. So I had my husband put up a 5-shelf shelving unit in the garage but just off the kitchen & out the door that goes from the house into the garage. I call it my appliance pantry & it has the Nesco turkey roaster, Insta-Pot, my crock pots, water bath canner, canning jars, the deep fryer, my enamel roasting pan, & a few other things. To keep all that clean I found a cover on Amazon for it made from heavy duty clear vinyl & it has great zippers on it for very easy access. I always rinse things off but the cover completely envelopes the shelves & keeps it from getting dirty/dusty in the garage. It freed up so much space inside! You might consider doing the same for some of your larger or seldom used appliances.
ps-The house is darling! Congrats to you & Romeo! 👏🏻👏🏻
Love, love, love your channel…but please finish your Texas home…dying to see the finished kitchen!🙏🏻❤️🤭
We have struggled with the lack of depth in kitchen cabinets in our houses and apartments. Maybe a china hutch somewhere would be helpful until you remodel?
16:05 those are boning shears for cutting poultry bones. Look up how to spatchcock a chicken. Delicious. You won't dry out the white meat while you're trying to finish the dark meat.
I'd make one of those narrow drawers next to the oven for potholders. You want those easy access.
In the slidey rack up high you could put seasonal stuff you don't need as much, but pulling out on the slider makes it easier to get to when you do want it.
That thing you called a knife sharpener isn't actually--it's for honing the blade between times you take it to get sharpened. I like a magnet cookbook stand for my knives, since yes loose knives are dangerous (and bad for the blades, worse than the dishwasher) but blocks can also bend them prematurely and you have to hone them more often. I have mine magneted behind the cookbook stand so they're out of temptation for the kids, and a cookbook can sit open on the front when I bake.
If you don't use the wine glasses etc., just declutter them and free up that space for other things, like small appliances you use less often. You can put them in the slidey drawer above the microwave too; it doesn't have to be on the wood. Plus the slider makes it easier to access (unless they're super heavy, I suppose).
You'll find yourself moving things around, so let that happen before you spend too much. You have to live in the space a while and see how you like things and how stuff works and where you tend to pile and use things. Looks like you have a great start though! It's a fun project, especially when you have a whole new house to play with.
I’m confused… you fixed up a house in TX, but you just bought a new place in CA?! Did u sell the TX house?
I love organizing vids lol. In my kitchen with limited upper shelving, the metal wire risers/shelves were a life saver for me to be able to fit all my plates and bowls in one cabinet! They also sell the multi-level ones specifically for different size plates but my cabinets were too shallow for it
Put your plates in the drawer by your dishwasher; that's where we keep ours and it's easier. Hang up the things you can, like the bag dispenser. Don't go putting dishes in the cabinets that you don't use; if you keep with just placing your basics it'll be so much easier.
I like the idea of using that shallow cupboard as a dry goods pantry space. That or a spice cabinet (yes, my spices could probably mostly fill that thing). Plates and bowls and servingware on either side of the range hood, maybe. This video makes me want to get in there and organize with you 😂 Organizing a kitchen is so fun to me.
I get the 'many spices thing'. I have a cupboard full of spices and baking adjacent things like baking soda, sugar, etc.
I would suggest to only keep what you use in the kitchen and move what you don't use daily outside of the kitchen... (including dog shampoo etc...)
When you do remodel the kitchen, open it up to the dining room and incorporate a larger space with island seating, lots of storage. Your living room is large enough to fit a dining table, just move the sofa closer to the fireplace. Or use the front room as foyer/ dining because how often do you use a formal dining room? It could hold a big table with flower vase and books that converts to dining.
LOVE the French provincial style. It’s my favorite. I could absolutely see you doing some of that in your new home. ❤️❤️
kinsley's love for all of the things is so funny.
Lol American kitchens are hilarious to a European…I have maybe a third of your amount of storage
i heard avocado cutters? 😶 what is that?.....americans no used a simple knife?😮
Totally just curious, not a criticism, but how come y’all are using the little downstairs room as a master instead of the huge room with the built-ins upstairs?
this year i plan to buy my very first home for me and my family and im extremely nervous, but watching your videos has me so excited. Thank you for being the peace my brain needs
Someone, please send MaCenna a letter opener, or a box cutter LOL. The knife has got to go
I got a new kitchen 6 months ago and I am still switching the locations of everything. You have to see how it works, to maximise the layout.
I would strongly advise against keeping plastic items above the cooker hood as it’s the greasiest place in the kitchen. Loving watch your new home come together 😊
Keep like items together-move Kinsley’s things and put your to-go mugs on that bottom shelf.
Love love love all the new house content. Im not sure if this would work with the lay out of the house but was thinking that when you redo the kitchen it could be more practical to have the narrow dining room space as a walk in pantry and the more formal living room could be the dining room! Just a thought ❤
Exactly!
I love your logic regarding how you packing the kitchen. Functional and practical. I would do what you mentioned at the end with the dry goods in jars, and in that larger cabinet next to the range hood I’ll do plates and the bowls ( plates at the top and bowls at the bottom). This would free more space for pantry items on the other side. So where you have the plates you can still do oils and taller cooking things and now it would be next to the other pantry things. I’m sure once you get your dinning room sorted you will add a server (china cabinet) to put your fancy dishes and glasses.
I’m excited for you and it’s all coming together.
Good luck and hope you guys have a wonderful week
Hi McCenna! Why don’t you get a pretty cabinet for the kitchen to store things in? Everything is looking awesome! I really love your house.😊
You need to grease the hinges and put the felt rounds so your cupboards are quieter :)
The best advice I’ve heard for organizing your kitchen is to imagine you are cooking a meal and think about where to put things so the process goes smoothly. Also, use lazy Susans and shelf risers to maximize the use of your cupboard space. I’d give serious thought to getting a freestanding pantry cupboard to put against that blank wall. It will give you lots more storage space, which you will need when you grow your family.
Those “scissor” type shears in your knife set are bone shears; like for cutting the breast bone of chicken.
Put your spices in the drawer next to stove in glass spice jars alphabetical. So convenient.
I’m so excited to see you decorate the new home and see all the great things you find GOD BLESS.🙏🏾🥰💖💯💫
LOVE the new house in LA....! And yes, Kinsley acts like she loves the house too......she is so adorable....! Isn't it amazing how they find windows and doors they can see out of ..our fur baby does that too.....
YEARS AGO I HAD A GERMAN SHEPHERD WHO COULD TELL TIME. MY SISTER WORKED SWING SHIFT & SHE KNEW WHEN TO GO SIT BY THE WINDOW & WOULD PEEL OUT WHEN THE BLINKER ON THE CAR WOULD COME ON 2 HOUSES AWAY. HILARIOUS.
Kingsley made me smile she brought you a plastic cup to play an you were showing us what you brought, she wasn’t impressed ha ha 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
When are you going back to Texas to finish your home there. Love the cottage house
I am currently making my wedding registry and your video inspired me to pick out some kitchen organization items!
You should think about putting a water filter installed on your house so you don’t half to use plastic bottles 🌏♻️🌱🌲🌲♻️♻️🌏
I would use the little drawer to the right of the oven for oven mitts 😊 love these types of videos! Fun to watch this all come together!
Your shallow cabinet is for spices. Surprised you don't use Norwex enviro cloths ( I lobe mine) I don't sell it.
Kinsley is finicky like my baby girl. Your counter tops look like Drew's new floor!
The things over the range will get grease and smoke on them., especially if the vent hood is on, since wood is porous.
You should make Romeo’s office where your master bedroom is now. That also gives access to a bathroom when everyone is in the pool. And you will be closer to the baby’s room upstairs.
That black sideboard at the Rose Bowl was spectacular!!!! It would look amazing in your new house!!!
I was really sad when you said you'd need to redo the kitchen but after seeing you try to desperately put stuff into the cabinets and myself also trying to like think how to put stuff better and not being able to I completely understand needing to redo it. Everything just seems like such inconvenient sizes and stuff. You could get a pretty vintage/antique cabinet for the hostess ware and stuff that you don't use as often. Maybe even put a coffee bar on it to save even more space.
Did I catch a glimpse of a foot tattoo?!
You need to add little cushion dots on bottom of cabinet doors so they don't bang. Lol
You could add cup hook or command hook to hang colander on cabinet door , add a lid holder to mount on cabinet door . So then the lid drawer would be empty for something else . 🤗
The big drawer under the cabinet that you put your pots and pans in would be good for some of your small appliances that you use most often. I would definitely keep an eye out for a sideboard to be placed under the windows in the breakfast nook. It would give you more dish storage. Not sure where you plan to put your designated eating space, but it might look kind of neat in that first room you walk into at the front. Not sure how many steps that is from the kitchen. 🤷🏼♀️❤️😊
The sliding baskets in the bottom drawers are for your dishes, bowls, etc. The ones you don’t fill can be used as a pantry/storage
Yes, at 20:53 she wonders what the baskets in that cupboard were for, but being right next to the dishwasher it's for dishes and bowls, easy access.
I think MaCenna needs an Art buying embargo!
Question: Isn't the other side of the of the kitchen (room that shares a wall with the cooking range, that leads to the backyard) an actual butlers pantry area? If not you might want to consider it be used as such with the lack of storage area in the actual kitchen.
Love the house! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Well consider me influenced. I never knew I wanted my knives in a drawer until now!
I’ve owned several older homes with original cabinets and they were all small. My hat off to the women who cooked everything from scratch back then and dealt with those cabinets. Maybe on one of those empty walls you get an old fashion floor to ceiling cupboard or armoire. But what ever you do will look awesome. I love going through the move- in process with you. Can’t wait for your Momma to visit. 💕
I’m childishly proud that “my” MaCenna bought ON sneakers. I’m from Zurich in Switzerland, where they were created. It’s also a company with a great philosophy.
Btw, these are poultry shears. To cut off wings and legs and open the ribs. Very helpful when butterflying a chicken, or after cooking to portion the meat. They cut through the bones very well.
What if you kept your small appliances above the microwave?
So, can we go back to Texas now? That house there has so much more soul.
The shears in the knife set could be poultry shears! For cooked chicken, turkey, etc.
Put light things over the counter and heavy things under it.
NEVER place ANY kitchen utensil, knives especially, in a dishwasher. The temperatures in dishwashers are set very hot and the drying cycle is hot air. It will strip the finish and dry the wood out, ruining the wood and cause it to deteriorate. Always hand wash, dry and put away. Also, don't leave them to sit in a sink full of dish water.
I was thinking that shallow shelf area is for spices👍
