Shuddha Kalyan (evening raag) is a popular, though difficult, raga of the Kalyan parent scale. The raga is pentatonic in the ascent and heptatonic in the descent.
I have heard Panditji 40 years back on the stage - only few ft away. I had my first bodyless experience of life. Those days one could seat on the stage. Thank you for shareing this wonderful raga.

I have experienced the same in 1980 at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi.
Yes on the stage..it was so full that even there was a tv broadcast outside on the foyer...

How wonderfully strange! Shuddh Kalyan always brings tears to my eyes, and for no specific reason. It's as if it captures the yearning of the whole universe. And when Pt Bhimsen Joshi renders it... oh God.

mts.after which he sang thumri in Tilang and 'Jamuna ke teer',in a concert organised by us at Ramkrishna Mission,Gol Park

Hello Vrinda Ji,You are right that this Raaga (Shuddha Kalyan) is Bhoopali in aaroh and Kalyan in Avroh. But the presentation is very important. If you don't take care of its "Chalan" it will either sound like Bhupali or Yaman. So far whatever I have heard, except Pt Bhimsen Ji and Pt Venkatesh Kumar Ji, most of others have messed it up. This is a very beautiful Raaga and very melodious too. I love it.

Namaste Vinod Mishra Ji. You are right in saying that all are unable present any (complicated) Raagaas properly. But when a professional and experienced vocalists are unable to do a justice to any such Raagaas, it hurts because it is spoiling the image of the rich Hindustani classical music. They should take care.
