- If you like Halo or just good science fiction, these books will keep you entertained for hours. There are quite a few of them so I explain in which order you should read them and which are the best to skip... if you're trying to just get the main ones digested.

I can second these recommendations. Personally, Nylund is my favorite of the Halo authors, Fall of Reach sets up the history of the SPARTAN-ll program beautifully.
+AProudBrony indeed. reach and onyx are both fantastic reads imo.
The Cole protacal is amazing definitely recommend it fall of reach, the flood, and first strike are also really good. But ghost of onyx is a must read if you like halo
I love glass land and Thursday war because I love to hear about the culture of the aliens and their political structures
shutdown199 you’d love the forerunner trilogy then
Hunters in the Dark takes place between Halo 3 and 4 during 2555, Broken Circle takes place around 851 and 2552 I believe
Anyway, my favourites of the bunch are Silentium, Fall of Reach and First Strike
I lost it when you said Locke and Keyes lol
I've been on a Halo book collecting spree, and so far I have The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest, The Cole Protocol, Glasslands, Envoy, Last Light, Retribution, Silent Storm, Smoke and Shadow, Renegades, Evolutions, and the Lone Wolf comic book series. Also I preordered Oblivion. I'm hoping on later receiving the Forerunner trilogy, and the rest of the Kilo-Five trilogy for Christmas as well :)
can you make videos of u playing any halo game
i really love halo first strike. it is my favourite halo book
Harvests and Cole protocol are essentials, harvest is the frist battle of the human-covenant war and Cole protocol takes place during the frist weeks after the events of contact harvest
Contact harvest was great
I'm reading ghosts of Onyx currently and am in the last 20 pages
+super crazy it gets crazy at the end
Robby Cool its a great read i love how Eric Nylund writes
My favourite is Ghosts of Onyx :)
Freaking loved the forerunner books :).
+Michael Castro very enjoyable reads
+AnthonysCustoms I felt the forerunner saga downplayed the flood a bit.
The stalker Ehhh I agree with you somewhat; they could have made the flood have a bigger part, but I much enjoyed the way they made the forerunner era feel. Like a time of great regret and tragedy after tragedy occurs while the people unaware of there imminent doom.
This is how I rate them:
10. The Cole Protocol
9. The Flood
8. First Strike
7. Silentium
6. Contact Harvest
5. Shadow of Intent
4. Hunters in the Dark
3. Glasslands
2. The Fall of Reach
1. Ghosts of Onyx
Honorable Mentions:
Broken
The Flood #2
Helljumper
Tales from Slipspace
Envoy
Mortal Dictata
Last Light
Smoke and Shadow
+Slade Wilson: the Mercenary missing a couple on there
These are the only ones I've ever read.
Where does smoke and shadow fall in order?
YOU JUST ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS!! 😭 your so awesome!!
Contact harvest was great
It's nice to see a halo content video & bit of a bonus not a figure review. Something different
I ABSOLUTELY hate the horrible butcher retcon of Forerunners not being ancient Humans. The original trilogy made it very clear the Forerunners were just humans.
Them not being humans is much more interesting. How could it be that they were humans? Pretty cliche and not likely to have been interesting
Although this video is three years old it’s still very useful, thanks!
SPOILER TAG!!!
Is Cortana "dead"? :(
Thanks so much man I’m on my way to try and get the rest of the promethian trilogy cause Cryptum was amazing
This 2022 i'm new fans of HALO and thanks for your HALO figure Reviews i can collected some cool figures and thanks to this Book breakdown, i can hunt Old Novel to my collection because i'm comfuse for many books... so Thank You Anthony
Happy to help
it would be cool if u made top 10 worst vid of 2015 when the years ends
I just bought all the halo books. Although my wallet is hurting, they are so far really good. Great video!!
enjoy
Thanks man just starting to read these novels and felt a little overwhelmed by where to start.
I appreciate the video now I know exactly what order I want to read them
You should read halo: new blood, it's about the odst squad from halo 3 odst
Contact harvest was great
the Halo books sound an interesting read , this has been a great review i hope you do more book reviews for your channel
will you the new Halo game ? thanks again
+james quinn of course
***** awesome ! i look forward to watching it , thanks again :)
Glass land was my favorite
I think you missed out on New Blood (concerning Buck) and Saint's Testimony (concerning AI Iona). But otherwise a very comprehensive video! Thanks Anthony!
Get halo fallen angel by ella Frank
I REALLY hope you reply to comments of old videos cuz I want to know if you have paperback or mass market paperback. It differs in the dimensions and since I wanna buy them online I need to know ahead cuz I don't want them in different sizes :/
I get the bigger ones. Not the little mass market versions.
@@AnthonysCustoms Kk thank you!
I like this video mate, I am only through the first 5. I never really was into reading, but I like Halo enough.
Glass Land ruined the storyline. Turned the leadership into bleeding hearts that forgot that without Halsey everyone would be dead. Like she was the only one responsible, with Paragonski doing it again but built spartans to die and she is ok. Then they turn their back on John and hunt him.
Great video. Just picked up the fall of reach and next two and am really excited for the rest after watching this!
The first Halo book I've read was The Flood, which I read when I was in like first grade. Took me two months.
The forerunner trilogy, chronologically was sorta around halo 2 to 4 i think, since weren't they all like, logs and shit found by oni?
No
@@AnthonysCustoms i don't really remember which it was but one of them is 343 guilty spark telling the events, after halo 3 when he was found by oni, then he takes control of their ship iirc but im not sure about the rest
A lot of the events are of course far in the past but it is a storty in a story type of thing and the 100000 years ago part, in at least one of the books, is the past while the present was some point after halo 3
Id have to find the books wherever i have them to figure out if the others are like that though
halo flood is actually the game novelized. that's actually what William deitz Said in an article I read
+Justin Sutton except its not... Most of the game isn't in the book and most of the book isn't in the game... Have you even read these books?
Yes I have. Many times over. And you're wrong that part of the game Halo: Combat Evolved isn't in the book Halo: Flood. You can't find one part that's in the game combat evolved that isn't in halo flood. Yes, he skips some very lo ng uninterestisting parts of the game, but most of the big plot points are in there. I'm not talking about all the books and all the games. I'm talking about one book and one game. The author said it himself so not only am I going by what I read but I'm going by what the author, William deitz himself, actually said
What do you think of the halo movies(foward to dawn, nightfall, legends)?
I just bought the first three books and I am so excited to read them. I know this is an old video, but if you are seeing this then thanks for the video. Really helpful :)
I'm reading the forerunner trilogy right know, I'm on Primordium. They are good, but they are kind of hard to get through
'If you like Johnson' ahaha cracked me up when you caught yourself there
i dont think the forerunner trilogy not being as good doesnt have as much to do with greg bear not being as good an author as much as its because forerunner culture can be really confusing
343 needs to give you a PR job already lol
Great review man!!
Hello Anthony, I don't understand you because I'm not english but still loving your videos even without understand :b I love your channel!!!
+You Made My Day thanks
I picked up hunters in the dark and last light at comic con, shortly after I met you actually. The guy at the counter told me last light was all about blue team. not just Fred.
+franco cab could be
Very helpful. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks for explaining the order of books to read.
.....also the cole protocol is about grey team a good bit also
i was going to get last light but all the pages were super glued and i lost 10 quid
You should do an update on the series
Some day. I haven't been keeping up since Halo 5 killed halo (hopefully) temporarily.
Fall of Reach is one of the best Sci-fi books I've ever read, Halo or not. It's so fantastic.
Even though it told a similar story, Reach is my favorite Halo game as well. (Maybe tied with Combat Evolved)
Same here! Incredible book and game
Can you please tell me where you got the fall of reach definitive edition, I cant find it anywhere, except the small version of that book.
+MATT Gutierrez amazon
Hi, do you think I should buy fall of reach if I've already watched the movie?
yes. the movie was only half the story and it changed some things...not for the better. the book is probably the best book in the bunch and that's saying something. definitely read it...and all the other books.
I have the last 4 to go. had to stop for school and its over now. I loved the cryptum series! and the last book I read was thursday war and that series is awesome.
+Matt Brown indeed
Great vídeo man, I love all of them, nice to see that You love the Halo Lore
We do not see the books.
What
Everyone remenber first song ?
It's so weird for me to see Anyhony's face!! But it's cool, I always wondered how u look like..
Lol like how we haven't seen Master Chief's face.
+William Luong exactlyyyyy
play arts Kai halo 5 guradias in the did pated
I own 15 Halo books now ^^
I love halo since Halo CE, but I never read the books. So thanks bro
+tyler graham enjoy
Can you make me a Nartuo toys
Great sci-fi series! I love them all
this was really helpful thanks
Silentium ... without a doubt my favorite.
Nothing comes close to the scale of the story and all the revelations.
I wonder if Halo 5 can compete with that.
I'm a fan as well
*****
I started reading it during the evening, and finished it at around 6am.Doesen't happen to often that i lose track of time =D
What about halo new blood?
Are the main books in any sort of order that I would have to read them in?
watch the video
Wait the last three books are before all of the books or ahead of them?
Randomness by 100,000 years
Which books are more covenant (specially sangheili) centred?
broken circle, hunters in the dark, cole protocol, the 3 from karin traviss.
Thx
Great video, well done.
New blood??
The Karen Travis books are by far the worst. Travis hates Doctor Halsey more than she hates the Jedi.
the books are written from an oni perspective. it makes sense within the context of the story.
Totally disagree.... I thought they were the best written in a long time! Very cool over-arching story where everything fit together very well, well fleshed out characters, and a nice mix of action, and storytelling! I don't know how you could dislike these books!
exactly
Nice to see someone enjoying a book nowdays. I find the witchers books to be fantastic. Assassins Creed ones are OK, will have to try these halo books, cheers Anthony!
+Callum Uchiha No crap. I read just about every night if in can! Love a good read. More people should put down the controller and pick up a book.
+mathias holland or do both!
+AnthonysCustoms well said! nothing liking reading about a world or story then jumping into it virtually
OMG THE BEST BOOKS EVER
"Doing his thaang!" lol
Crow ...
Very helpful, thanks!
There's a lot more books now but this will at least get you started. Enjoy
No graphic novel? I feel it's easily placed in-line with the books. (At least in terms of collecting)
there's a comic series with 24 issues
+Hoss theres a bunch of stuff but those arent part of the books and require no explanation like these many books that must be read in order for the most part.
***** I mean in terms of having a collection, bruh.
i have all of those too...i have everything lol.
The Fall of Reach will always be my favorite
it is quite good indeed. though onyx is also really nice
@@AnthonysCustoms I actually just ordered Ghosts of Onyx on Amazon, so I'm really looking forward to reading that one :) also ordered First Strike and it already arrived. Currently reading it and I'm 3/4 of the way through. It's been amazing so far and almost as good as Fall of Reach in my opinion.
@@AnthonysCustoms I'm currently reading the new Halo book called Silent Storm by Troy Denning, and it's amazing so far. Takes place in the year 2526 and is about Master Chief
what about the ODST book
it didnt exist when i filmed this.
AnthonysCustoms ah ok sorry i didnt know
you looks awesome with the glasses
can't wait for the batmobile too! and also, will you review the batman animated series figure? because the one that you already reviewed is the batman familiy animated figure line
+badut bakekok is there a batmobile figure coming out?
DNAcid yeah! The animated series's batmobile with lights!
+badut bakekok nice! where did you got this information?
DNAcid i searched up batman animated series's batmobile and saw dc entertainment reviewed it! It's so awesome
forerunner books were a waste of money and time. horrible books
+Justin Sutton horrible assessment
Just saying.....there's an entire third of one of the books where they are walking, walking, walking,......and walking. Never have I read a book where youd be just fine skipping an entire third of the book and be just fine as far as knowing the entire plot lol
.....oh yea.....and by the way, a lot of people would agree with me. I know four or five people that bought those books and thought they were crap. So I know for a fact tha t alot of people were dissatisfied based on my little small sample group here. In fact, I don't personally know anybody that actually enjoyed laboring through those boring books
you four or five people dont constitute a lot of people.... or popular opinion...or objective criticism. i suspect when you're older you'll appreciate writing where there is story beyond the action.
No but it's a pretty good sample size. And by the way.....I'm 33 yrs old. So I'm pretty well read.I know a readable sci fi novel when I read one. Dude, nob ody likes this book. Look at all the online criticism. It's boring. And you being wrong about the other book not novelizing the game lets me know to probably not value your opinion on anything else
I'm sorry, but did you seriously mispronounce "Flood" at 5:15 or was it a joke?
Silverism it was a joke dipshit
@@rustyfool3740 No need to be rude, fuckface.
