    One thing to warn people about: Paying the minimum on a credit card will result in owing more and more because there's a monthly interest charge on the balance. This shocks many young adults!

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 💰 Budgeting is a powerful tool to manage debt and achieve financial goals.
    01:12 📊 To start a budget, list your monthly income, and if uncertain, calculate an average based on past paychecks.
    01:55 💳 List all your debts, including student loans, credit cards, etc., along with their minimum payments.
    02:23 🏠 Identify fixed expenses like rent, utilities, and groceries, using a three-month average for uncertain costs.
    03:44 🛍️ Allocate discretionary spending (fun expenses) for items like dining out, subscriptions, and entertainment. Ensure expenses are less than income for a balanced budget.

    Its important to have things in black and white , especially if you are a couple and have different ideas about money . If one of you is sensible about money and the other is a spendthrift, you are going to have a horrible relationship. More couples break up over this than just about anything else because wasting hard earned money is seen as a betrayal. Please take this advice from one who knows.

  • @Redpoppy80
    @Redpoppy80 9 дней назад

    Some extra tips is that the modal shown is not necessarily going to reflect your situation, it is important to understand what is a need or a want or a semi-need. Semi-needs are wants but cutting them comes with some kind of consequence that you would really rather not deal with. For example, a parent might watch Netflix sometimes but the children also use it and cutting it means that you AND the kids have to go through withdrawal which really sucks. Also, things like clothes are a person-by-person basis for example, I never spend money on clothes that aren't needed for something because I hate shopping for clothes, but others LOVE shopping for clothes for the sake of it. So, if spending money on something brings you pleasure then it is a fun expense, otherwise it is an incidental cost which is also a great thing to budget for.

My only gripe would be what I saw on the spreadsheet at the end --> you will always want to tackle the high interest before low interest. you have good credit so you got a great rate on your car loan - in this scenario i would suggest paying the minimum or slightly above minimum payment on while putting more towards that high interest cc at 23%

      That is so great to hear! Nothing to be afraid of... money is neither good or bad but you do have the capability to use it as a tool. Keep educating yourself on personal finance and you will do amazing things!

    Thank you for sharing. I was not listing my personal debt as top most important. I have been generous giving financial gifts before clearing loans. now I know that I have to name every dollar or else I will fall in a trace the will make live a life of debt.

    I’m a newbie to your channel and love this video. So here is my thing, I wrote down all my debt but not in categories and they all add up over what I make in a month but I manage to get them paid. Which leaves me no money to save. What would you suggest I do? Please help 😢

      First, take care of your basic living expenses. Then make sure you have 2-3 months of living expenses set aside in an emergency fund. That's your fallback. Then you can continue with your debt payoff plan. Very little will go to savings while you pay off debt but that's why you have your emergency fund in place.

    I did not see where there was any budget for car maintenance like tires or oil changes. I also didn't see car registration. Where would those go since it's not monthly?
