I just received mine mine last week. I bought it on Amazon because it was on sale and has a Green Backlight much better on my eyes that Orange which is on the Raddy RF-320. One thing that thee ZHIWHIS (Zi _Whiz?) model can do that the Raddy doesn't do is be able to record directly on the radio without using the App. I bought it mainly to use as a external speaker for my Belka -All Mode but was surprised at it's MW and FM reception. It also allows me to use my IPAD to listens a my stereo output on my old Bose corded headphones. I haven't bought a SD card yet so it make a good MP3 player. 73! and have a nice day!
@@phoebus I have not inserted a SD card in mine to record yet, but the manual says to either use the app or double tap the lock button on the radio itself. Good luck with your radio, because I hear there are different firmware editions. My manual has this on page 21. 73!
Yes Sir! I bought one, Sir! (arrives tomorrow). That audio does sound really good. I still want to know how well it performs on shortwave, but I'll find out soon enough.
I tried a shortwave scan yesterday using just the 10 wire antenna and the scan only found 5 stations but they were loud and clear. It was a scan at about 7 am local time in Florida. Reception at my location has been poor most of the time lately on any setup.
Tom's radio room show I learn lot from you about shortwave receivers and antenna for shortwave receivers and what to lisn to on shortwave and ssb and what time in utc at your location my friend 😅😊😊
I bought one of these radios from Amazon, apparently one of the last ZhiWhis models available from Amazon, and while I like most of what the radio does mine has trouble with signal overload distortion on strong AM stations and "crackles" during louder vocal passages and the break ups in the sound doesn't really have anything to do with the volume level. Anybody else having this problem? Or a solution? Only does it on AM and doesn't matter which EQ setting is used, although some EQ settings make it more prominent.
@@hamrad88 I chose the ZhiWiss version of the radio because it was the only one that could record without the App, but right now Amazon doesn't have any available and may not get more so I at least right now I can't return for another one. It's a shame because it really does have very good sensitivity and selectivity and picks up AM stations as well or better than my Sangean 909x with just the internal antenna. I haven't picked up anything yet on VHS or Air but everything else works very well except for that darn overload distortion on strong AM stations
Mine arrived today. What struck me right away was the knob on the front. It basically emulates an old analog radio with a circular dial. Pick the band, then turn the knob to tune the station. The knob isn't geared so you get the whole band in one rotation. You can turn it fairly fast and the strong stations pop out. It was a nice, nostalgic tuning experience for me, and the usual chuffing from a DSP chip was minimal. The dial only has a logging scale (not 11 SW bands), but the digital display takes care of that detail. Radio Habana Cuba was booming in my basement with no antenna (telescopic collapsed). Mine radio has a defect: the antenna can't be fully extended Three segments are just stuck together and won't budge.
@@hamrad88 No, but I have now. I sprayed some Liquid Wrench on it and will come back in a few hours. I put a great deal of force on it already so much that I feared bending the antenna, leaving me to think it's something mechanical and not just stuck.
Wow you have a lot of AM stations over there. Here in the UK we only have about 5 left and they are mainly sport which doesn't interest me . Great sound on that radio. No short wave though ?
😀 Great review thanks ! Here is a tip ! The RADDY has what the ROCAM does not have and visa versa. The charging these possibilities are necessary if you have no grid ! ROCAM has DAB+ but not so good sound as RADDY...etz ! So if you have both connect them with audio USB and you got the best of both worlds! Thanks for all the good information, and have a great day.
I think it has to rhyme with "gee whiz."
@@kwdavids1 😀!
Where's the the "record" button located on the radio? And have you tried clock alarm? Is it a "beep" or does just the radio audio come on?

Thanx for the tips..Cool radio, having fun setting it up.
You are very welcome and have a great day.

Pretty neat looking radio, Tom.. The sound quality seems good also.

"I'm still learning", hahahaha, this guy is really funny!
I might consider this as a purchase if it had stereo speakers, thanks for sharing, Tom.
Thanks I’ll be getting that based on your review

Mine does not seem to have that problem. Quality control on these radios from China is poor. Suggest you return it.

It was a bad time of the day to try shortwave or VHF. Will do that in another show.
If set to Japanese 76 or OIRT 64 MHz FM region, try to manual knob on FM BUT, starts from 86 MHz.

AM is dead in Europe. FM & DAB is the only broadcast now.
How about Shortwave ??
There are some AM broadcasts in Spain.
@@FrancisLitanofficialJAPINOY SW is not dead but not so many as befor, there is some AM broadcast stations in UK but not in Scandinavia.
I have this radio it’s by far one of the best small radios out there, one negative for me is the weather band is useless in the U.K.
Weatherband still use in Bermuda (UK overseas island), Canada, USA (including overseas territories), and parts of Mexico.
Weather Band used as taxi radios in Europe.
No uk steps like am 8.33 or 25 steps airband, vhf no 12.5 steps. Not for uk market.
