I was playing the dive bars in Lincoln NE in the 60’s at the same time Zager and Evans were performing in the “better” venues around town prior to their record deal. Sixty years later I purchased a Zager ZAD50 after owning everything from a Sears Silvertone Electric to Gibsons & Fenders and others. The ZAD50 was so enjoyable to play (and sounded so good) that I bought a ZAD90E which immediately became my gig guitar. Yup, I just had my 79th b’day 8/15/24 & I perform with my Zager guitar almost weekly - I sure do enjoy the ease of play, versatility and wonderful sound of my Zager guitars!
I never heard of Zager guitars until November 2018 how? I don't know I was 9 when 2525 was played on WLS Chicago many times and very familiar with the song in 1969...I had no idea Denny Zager started building guitars in 69. Anyway, I purchased a ZAD900CE and it arrived on December 24/2018...After playing it for a couple months I had to try another...so I got an ZAD50CEOM which arrived in March 2019...Thrilled with both and I now only need a ZAD80CEOM and a full-sized ZAD20 and a Travel Size and Parler and maybe a Full Sized 50CE. That's all...Maybe. These guitars have so much great tone and intonation they are such fun to play.
The Fishman Aura Pro onboard pickup system is generally advertised for $499. I have a 2018 ZAD20 I bought on the "Sale" section of the Zager website. It's a quality, good sounding guitar, and yes, EZ to play. (I own Custom Shop Martins, Gibsons, Goodall, Lowden, Rainsong, Eastman, and Jeff Henry guitars.)
Nice review... I like the downloadable options for the Fishman pickups, mainly because finding the right settings has always been a crap-shoot for me. The Grover heads are also a nice item to have.
Oh man! How did i ever miss this review.. It has exactly as you have said by being warm and mellow. I would like to add also word *gorgeous sound* and i'm exited to order my own Zager soon! =) I dont understand the "haters", because it looks like they have never even owned and played a Zager guitar.
I just ordered the ZAD50CEOM. I am sincerely hoping the EZ feature is all it is proclaimed to be, because my 84 year old fingers are "not" what they were 70 years ago! Even 20 years ago!
$1995 is not a small amount of money, but $1995 for artwork that also has phenomenal sound qualities, cheap cheap. Cannot wait for my ZAD80CEOM to arrive.
I just bought a ZAD50CE, and patiently waiting for it to be delivered. I can't wait!
This is my favorite review of this guitar so far. Nice explanations and great playing demo. Nice to hear lots of chords and notes. Cheers!

Great review. I have been thinking of upgrading for a while. Your review and playing made me order one today. Thanks Peter.
Peter beautiful playing sounds wonderful!!!
I bought a zad20e in 2014. It is still my weekly player for live music. The Fishman system sounds amazing and the guitar sings.

How are you liking your Zager guitar? I ordered one a couple of days ago.
Sounds familiar. I just got my ZAD-80CE OM about a month ago. It is everything you say... I love it!
Nice! I just ordered the exact guitar and can't wait. Hopefully sometime in January . Enjoy!
Good choice...they're great guitars.

Great review.

Where did you get that Cool Pick guard?? Very nice addition!
I'm wondering the same thing.

That pickguard is cool. Where did you get it from?
I enjoyed watching this video and clicked the link to their website, but nothing opens up. Are they out of business?
Still open as I ordered

Best guitar ever! Owned mine for 20 years and still love it.
Is it tuned down a half step or semi-tone as the Brits would say?
Seems like its too good to be true? I bought a ZAD50, LOVE it! THEY are the real deal!
Is that a full size or an OM?
