Hi again, Thanks a lot for the help, which has been the best upgrade possible. I was wondering if you ever got a new freehub working with the Stromer wheel?
You got the GX Eagle axs with a nx eagle on there? epic. Sadly i never found a fitting freehub. i ordered a few who looked like they could fit, but they did not. bikeshops were completely clueless as usual. There are 11-52 teeth cassettes but other than that i did not get any further than that.
@@Ropetable It was the perfect match for the bike, GX Eagle derailleur and NX cassette. I started with GX chain which was good. But I suddenly had issues with my cassette and chain making noises in certain gears. So I got a new NX cassette and an XX1 chain (only one available at the moment) And that chain gets a lot smoother shifting IMO. I was looking at different hubs, and did not find any other fitting unfortunately. I hoped you had found a good solution. Actually I like the NX cassette look, but would have loved to get a 10t smallest cog :)
Hi, Thanks for some informative videos - I'm thinking myself of upgrading to the SRAM wireless shifter. I looks like your derailleur is the top model XX1 but would the model GX Eagle AXS derailleur work as well? Still with the nice black NX Eagle cassette and Eagle chain. Thanks in advance.
Hello, when i did this only xx1 axs was available / released. gx axs is the same thing, i would have picked that as well. it is sturdier so no downside at all. another tip to throw in, use at least the x01 chain, or better a xx1 chain. those last much much longer than the others and wear out the drivetrain less fast.
@@Ropetable Aaaaa ok good to know - I'll choose th GX version then, and go with a x01 or xx1 chain. I have been working the idea of changing the front chainring, for a larger one as you did. But I would only go with a 53tooth (I like a bit heavier pedal thread). Do you by any chance know one that will fit my future setup?
@@haupthenrik all i can say it is really hard to fit a larger chainring than the currently installed one. i used a rotor 54t chainring, and it was alot of fiddling to make it work. i had to remove the preload screw and get the spacers exactly right. the 52t of rotor does not fit without that either. difference between 52 and 54 is almost nonexistant so i say leave the front chainring alone unless you love fiddling.
@@Ropetable Thanks for all your help - its much appreciated. And I'll keep the 52Tooth..... I think that amount of fiddling will exceed my skills or patience :)
I just received the GX AXS kit - what a nice piece of kit. Look forward to do the upgrade. I came to think, if I wanted to stay on a Shimano chain and cassette. Would the Shimano SLX cassette - M7100 12 gear 10-51T work? Its still the HG hub even though it has a 10-51T. Can't find any better versions of the Shimano than SLX with same specs.
hi , it's me again. forgive me for asking you to clarify for me as I don't quite understand the motivations for changing from di2 to sram axs. Esthetic (you prefer the look , and that's fine ( looks matter to me too)), More gears for off road /steep uphill( as the bikes top speed is limited and you won't go any faster) ,the shifting which I find crisp, fast and flawless... What exactly did you gain? Thanks
I cracked my shimano di2 shifter in an accident on a construction site. it still worked for a while but when i found out it was cracked, i accidentaly broke it by examining it. I always wanted a 50t large cog, as it covers the entire motor for a nice aesthetic. When i use the 46t shimano large cog (already an upgrade from the stock 42t) i am going steep uphills, it is not about the speed, at that point i dont go fast in that steep of a terrain anyways. but it really helps offset the insane 52t front chainring. Another reason is, that i go on large tours, and i like to work out on the uphills, sometimes using support mode 1 to go uphill. that large cog then is a blessing. If i could i would have gone shimano deore 12s or 11s cassette and derailleur, but i already used the tiny leftofter space for cables for the dropper. Initial plan was to have a deore 12s cassette and a sram axs shifter, to have the best of both worlds, as shimano shifts better under load. but the freehub body is custom, so micro spline is not an option, which is why i settled for the nx cassette. i already purchased the derailleur and deore 6100 cassette.
Hey there ! Nice build ! I had a question what is the lever u have on the left with cable ? I have a st3 and I would like to switch to eagle axs as well . Is supposed to be wireless right ? Is the sram cassette 100% compatible with stromer hub ? Which one do you have installed on the video Thks , I know it’s an old post
The lever on the left with the cable is the dropper post lever for the pnw coast suspension dropper post. i chose that dropper because it has 40 mm of suspension. it is very similar to the now released rockshox axs xplr reverb dropper post which also has suspension. If you would like some suspension, you could install the wireless axs dropper with a 27.2mm to 31.6mm seatpost adapter. Or you can just get the normal dropper. To install a clamp for the wireless dropper on the left you need to cut a bit off your grip. just slide off and cut off with a sharp knife. The Sram NX Eagle cassette is 100% compatible because it uses the same shimano 11s freehub body. if you want to switch to axs, simply swap the chain and derailleur with the eagle nx cassette. Even better would be some 11-52 cassettes that can be found nowadays, as long as it uses the old shimano freehub. Only downside of the axs derailleur is that the battery only lasts for a month or 2 (if you are not shifting much because its a stromer)
@@jeromejerome7899 you can use the standard crankset with the eagle 12 speed chains with no issue. the stromer st5 and st3 have a 83mm bottom bracket by the way. I installed a 54 teeth front chainring, which is not a great idea clearance wise. If you keep the standard crankset you are all set. The only issue you could have is chain drop on the 50 tooth largest cog when you backpedal. but shifting is really really crisp with the eagle axs drivetrain on this bike.
Was checking for a sram 175mm crank axs 12 speed not sure for DUB or GXP ? Any idea if both fits ? Which is better ? With 52t aero with powermeter but expensive upgrade
@@jeromejerome7899 it works as long as they are the downhill cranks. you need gpx or dub dh cranks that are compatible with 83mm bottom bracket shells. the road or mtb wont fit.

Only nx not gx/x01/xx1 eagle ?
yes only nx because nx has the shimano freehub body. you need a cassette with shimano freehub body and 11t smallest cog
