Arne Slot held at a press conference at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday to preview Liverpool's upcoming clash with Tottenham.
And Reds reporter David Lynch was there to hear what the Dutchman had to say ahead of the second leg of the sides' Carabao Cup semi-final.
in his latest media briefing, Slot provided an update on the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who limped out of the weekend win over Bournemouth.
He also shared his thoughts on the January transfer window and Premier League squad sizes.

This Spurs game must be a full and strong team. Big guns must play, then obviously rotate for the Plymouth game.

I'm confident of course we've so much fire power available but the games many think we'll hammer teams are the ones that are much tighter . Hopefully get the job done without penalties or any injuries.

The lack of injuries, while fortunate, must also come down to Slot and the coaching. I remember when he came in reading about how good Slot is at keeping players fit with meticulous attention to detail in training and a playstyle which is calm and controlled whenever possible, meaning players aren't so exhausted.
I’m not disappointed in the transfer window activity. I just hope that Liverpool finds a way to keep Mo, Virg and Trent.

It not luck that they are injury free. Its an impressive manager who has controlled games. I loved Jurgen, but he has a history of running players into the ground.

To be fair, it can be a combination of both. Jurgen had a very good injury record during the quadruple push of 21-22. It’s too early to rush to judgement on how it’s going to be under Slot, though the signs are good.
Partially agree as it's also due to Slot having an extra year with the players and having the ability to see how they fit and are able to rotate without losing significantly. Rotation feels like it's accompanied by a noticeable tactical shift which complements the subs skills

I think the fact slot only does 30% of training that jurgen did and we now bottom of distance run chart in the prem has had big impact on the number of injuries
I’ve wondered all season if the change in style in training methods has contributed to the team’s fitness.

Looks like Tottenham used the brentford game as a practice match of how they’re going to set up against Liverpool. They’re not playing wide open Ange ball anymore. Think it will be tighter than some imagine

Brentford had an xG of 2.29 - they were not efficient in finishing. We are. We'll open Spurs up like a tin of tuna.

What was very interesting for me was Arne showing his excellent people skills in 3 different ways during this press conference:
1. No signings. We don’t need players, my existing team has proved to be good/fantastic. This is a loud and clear trust statement to his players in public. This makes the guys running 110% every match. By the way Signing new players is a message of distrust to the squad (we need players because you are not good enough)
2. Bradley is doing very well but can improve. This honest positive feedback with the PSV example and describing how they work together on that...
3. The team worked very hard the whole week. Therefor I want the whole team to be at the match in stead of only 19. This is my toughest decision, not the line up of 11. I want the team together
Masterclass people skills, a big factor of his success.. Especially because of #1 they will have an effect tomorrow. I expect they will be in the final.
I think we can do it against Spurs, but it won't be easy. Spurs are on a poor run but they will put their best out on Thursday to progress in this competition.
I dearly hope that we rest most of our first team in the Plymouth game, not because I think Plymouth are walkover but because we have so many more important games to win in the league.

You're totally right about the injury record this season. It's brilliant. Same thing happened to us the last time we won the League, really lucky with injuries. It's more of a 'thing' with Arne though whereas with Jurgen it was pretty much unheard of!!

The 14 other clubs who hold the majority vote in the PL will never allow 9 subs on the bench. They'll just use the excuse they used to block 5 in a game. ie the 'big' clubs will have better subs than them and it's not fair!

You can bet your life if Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc were regularly fighting on all four comps, the Premier League would be looking to extend squad size. 🤷
You don't have to do whatever the other clubs are doing. LFC is not a copy cat club. LFC is it's own master. Why buy simply to impress. You can bring in new players and upset a very balanced team. Left back is shaky but Robbo is getting better progressively

I had same line of thought until I looked closely at the LFC squad and realized how deep and good it was. As of today, there is only one injured player who should be back really soon. You can't get another Salah or Van Dyk because these are rare gems. Pound for pound positionally LFC has the best squad today as I write. Don't be nervous. LFC will win the league with three games to spare.

We have been lucky with injuries this season,but our squad needs strengthening.
Where? Liverpool have to move players on if they are to sign anyone, having a bigger squad than this would be ludicrous.
@davidlynchlfc the drop off from konate to quansah is to big,robbo is not the same player anymore.
Left-back definitely will be addressed in the summer, with Tsimikas a candidate to leave. If they’re signing a centre-half, though, one is going to have to leave.
Blessing in disguise having Trent injured. Against Spurs we need a disciplined defence rather than an attacking fullback. This game is guaranteed goals goals goals, need them all going in the right end.
David can slot try to swap Macca and Szobosslai's positions .I think Macca would perform better behind the attack and Szobosslai getting shots frm outside the box and late runs into the box aswel.
Great from Slot as always. Just curious. Is LFC getting some help on their set pieces. They don't seem to do well on that front. Is anything being done to improve in that area?
Aaron Briggs is currently taking charge of set pieces though I expect that to be reassessed in the summer. Liverpool have barely conceded any goals from them this season but have been weak on attacking set pieces.

Not sure it’s a change in our fortunes as much as a change in the players’ training regimen. Almost seems like Klopp’s playing and/or training style was partly causing a proportion of the injuries. Don’t get me wrong, I love Klopp, but the difference in number of injuries is startling

No injury updates, but what about contract updates for the big 3 players!!!!
The players have trained very hard under Klopp, which built up their tremendous fitness. Under Slot, they just need to maintain that fitness and at the same time watch their health. Not so for new players who come in with a lower level of fitness. That's why it takes lots of time for Chiesa to be able to play a proper 90 minutes. Anyway, Liverpool should prevail over Spurs in the second leg. I always remind myself of the 4-0 game against Messi, Suarez and gang.

I like to think I’m okay mate, been playing since I was about seven or eight, although not as much these days as I used to. Always pleased I learned though, absolutely love it.

I’ve really fallen away from liking Trent. He is motivated by being the cpt., by being, called, the best and winning trophies instead of playing with his heart. He is arrogant, and selfish in my opinion. Let his play dictate results and then you will get these things. I want him to go, and put others in his place that will show what sports is all about, team and heart.

Spurs are fragile - an early goal and it could get messy for them. I don't know my feelings towards Tottenham. I don't hate them or like them - 1 trophy (League Cup) in over 20 years ultimately I don't see the point of Spurs. Their new stadium boasts the biggest 'cheese bar' bistro thing in Europe. I don't even know what that means. I watched a game in the KK stand recently where the 'concourse' (using that term loosely) is 7m wide. And there was no cheese on offer.
