- Jonbon (1/3 favourite) became the fourth dual winner of the Grade Two Shloer Chase when making all in the two-mile contest, the highlight of day one of The November Meeting at Cheltenham today, Countryside Day.
Partnered by Nico de Boinville, the JP McManus-owned eight-year-old repeated his 2023 success by leading all the way and jumping well throughout. He had to work on the run-in but at the finish had a length and a half to spare over Boothill with three-quarters of a length back to Edwardstone in third. The success completed a 3-1 double for de Boinville and trainer Nicky Henderson following the earlier success of Hyland.
Nicky Henderson said: “I think his jumping was as good as I’ve seen him which was great.
“He really enjoyed himself. I expect Nico will tell me he had a good blow between the last two and we now have three weeks until the Tingle Creek (at Sandown Park on Saturday 7th December). That would be the perfect prep I would say.
“It’s a job done and today was a lovely race for him. It takes us on where we want to go.
“Like a lot of horses, as they get older they get further and he won over two and a half at Aintree last year which was no problem. But as JP said at the end of last season, we are a two-miler and we’ll stay at two miles.
“That is right and you have got to be positive. All being well it will be the Tingle Creek and then the Clarence House - the normal route. I’d be surprised if we vary it.”
Nico de Boinville said: “I am delighted with him. The time he was going to be vulnerable was today as ours have been needing a run.
“We didn’t set off at mad fractions and I didn’t want to be really aggressive on him. He was very brave at the last and kept finding all the way. I think he was pulling away at the line.
“He is a fantastic horse and I’m delighted.”

Gorgeous horse! Hes gonna win a few big ones this season. I do think its criminal not running him in king George, hes a 3 mile horse always has been.
Ive been thinking this the last 2 years.
I was on💪

Jonbon is such a good yardstick.....I keep thinking back tho....to constitution hill leaving him a distance behind in the supreme and it does make you wonder why they didn't go chasing with him. I know he ended up injured in any case. But still, if jonbon is this good......just makes you wonder, if only.......
'This good' beating boothill by 1.5 lengths?
@spikec1803 yeah that's why I said yardstick , I don't think jonbon is anywhere near the class of constitution hill , if he was in that race today that's my point, he'd be 20 lengths ahead of the 3 of them. If it was me I'd skip hurdling and go straight over fences as he would wipe the floor with this lot
@@davidpearson6785 He'll come on for the run, and he's a lovely jumper, that's 50% of the game the jumping. Watching NH's yard gearing up their stars for the season makes me sad Shiskin is no longer with us to enjoy!
@kerrybogdanski1027 I agree shiskin was such a superstar
Hes more than a yardstick believe me
All out to beat Boothill.
😂😂😂😂
That’s all.
Yeah it'll get smashed in the champion chase. Who do you fancy for it ?
That must mean even Boothill is better than El Fabiolo!
I was on💪

More to racing than just saying a short priced mullins horse will win.
@@marksouthward absolutely - a short priced long odds on Henderson horse won this.
Well done.
