The reason volk won is becuase he was bald and Ortega wasn’t if it was switched Ortega would’ve dominated

Hey Weasel, this makes me wonder, are some submissions stronger than others. For example, if Ortega had gotten a RNC instead of guillotine (of course, that is not his fav submission, and its harder to setup, but theoretically speaking, if he sunk in those hooks), would Alex be able to get out of it?

It almost seemed like we would see something similar to the Silva and Chael fight were Silva got a submission in the last seconds of the fight.

Ortega could have started elbowing vollks face in when he had him flipped in the triangle... Huge huge missed opportunity to finish it like he said, coming for his head... Gutsy performance from both men

That was top 5 MMA moments this year it was like straight out of an anime the way Volk just looked into Brian's eyes in a fully locked triangle before escaping. That was essentially a Frank Woods moments Volk basically said you "you cant kill me" without actually saying anything almost shifted myself. R3 of that fight has to round of the year.

Yes. Some people think guillotines and triangles work like a vise or scissors and all you have to do is just bring the two mechanical parts together and they clamp down exactly. Arms & legs going around another elite fighter's neck isn't like that. First, Volkanovsky has a mini-Romero neck; #2, he's also slippery like oil, due to sweat a perfectly shaved head, in 3rd round. #3, Volkanisky really is a physical specimen: he has that extra power/strength that he could call upon in do or die moments like those two. It's not Brian's "incorrect"/"improper" guillotine or triangle set-ups.

If we had people like you and others you approve of to judge MMA, MMA would evolve so much in the scoring department. Thanks for breaking down such a epic fight. This fight symbolized "Dedication" and True strength that comes from the heart. Like of course we don't want to see a fighter get too much damage but deep down we all can relate to a fighter wanting to push himself to the limit of trying to overcome a loss and especially if this is what you do for a living. So it was cool to see a fight go to it's limits. I hope Ortega is doing okay after this. He has got to be hurting. @@christian_urocar How long have you watched the UFC? Because you should know by now that female and male pound for pound are discussed and graded seperately, dude to the difference in both the physiology and competition levels between the two genders.

@@dustingaethje1332 I wasn’t aware of that honestly. I don’t see why sex makes any difference in Pound for pound. But if you classify men separately. I’d say he’s going up there , probably top 3 maybe Ortega really isn’t a “ big “ name but hes top tier he’s beat some good guys . But that list has to be alittle bs , Ciryl Gane is 5th, kinda high if you ask me

I loved how the crowd was booing volk the whole time until he survived those two sub attempts and gorilla pounded ortega until the end of the round then the crowd started chanting volkanovsky on the next round

Volkanovski is a being who has evolved past the state of requiring air to breathe.

Well the guillotine is more of a blood choke, but still crazy how he didn’t go to sleep

Conditioning is the only way to get you out of real tough situations, thats what brings Heart into play.

Couldn't get up and they gave him an extra minute to recover. I sincerely hope ortega is okay he took a lot of damage. What an amazing weekend for combat sports.

Unfortunately the clash of heads was a turning point in the fight. Personally I'd like to see it again.

great performance of Volk, but Max was never in trouble, so to say it was the same level I disagree

Volk is already the GOAT IMO, when he secures that second belt it's official.

We called it "The Volkan Mind Meld" while watching the fight live. Amazing feints last night
There's literally a moment where Volk puts his hand up just to distract Ortega so he could get out of the pocket and it worked

The fact that volk got out of that guillotine is absolutely insane. I thought for sure he was going to sleep. Ortega submissions are pretty much the best in the game. This is a dude that has been training with Rener Gracie pretty much his entire life. I can't wait to hear the Gracie breakdown on that one.
