Autumn Solo Kayak Wild Camp

- 24 hours in the autumn for a solo kayak wild camp, on an island in the river. This was my first overnight camping excursion in my new Itiwit x500 inflatable touring kayak from Decathlon.
The perfect quiet spot for some classic hammock camping, and cooking up a steak on a firebox stove.
In the summer this place is thick with green, but at this time of year becomes a magical flush of autumn colours.

Hope you enjoy this short film. It's not always about the long adventures, sometimes one night away on the river is all you need. This was my first time kayak camping at this time of the year and I have to say it was wonderful, so much nicer than I expected. The river was quiet and still with little traffic except for the birds. The weather was cool, but I was snug thanks to my hammock under-quilt. As you can see in the video, those autumn colours are just something else. It's my new favourite time of year.
Enjoy, and if you haven't already then please subscribe. Thanks for the support 🚣♂️

great content and editing, keep it up brother 🤙🏼
Thanks so much!
You are getting seriously good at making videos : the smooth paced montage, beautiful photo, atmospheric music, drone shots,... everything is top. I first came here for your reviews of the Itiwit kayak (I ended up buying one), but your channel also has so seriously nice and interesting videos. Don't stop!
Thanks so much Nicolas 🙏
Great little vid. Debbie and I just watched it and agreed that you must have been freezing!!
Steak looked good though 🥩
Thanks! Wasn't too cold at all, I've got an an under-quilt rated for -5 which is well toasty 🙂
@@StevieWyatt we’re doing our Mongol Rally shopping tomorrow and this is on the top of my list! Looking to get one of those heated over covers as well for my precious self….!
As a fellow camping RUclipsr I can appreciate the irony that the work that goes in to making a vid of this quality, on your own in the middle of nowhere, can make the experience nowhere near as relaxing as portrayed! But the magic is that the viewer doesn't see all that. Very high quality stuff Stevie, beautifully shot and edited. New sub here! Cheers. Rich
Thanks so much Rich. Yes the big challenge at this time of year is how quickly it gets dark. I had more planned for this one but lost the light by 4:30pm. I had a great time and am still happy with the footage I got though.
I've been checking out your channel. Your stuff is shot and edited beautifully!
Have subbed and look forward to more 👊
@@StevieWyatt Top lad Stevie, thank you. Looking forward to your next one!
Amazing vlog.
Thank you so much 🙏
Hey,new kajak💪💪
Brilliant tea break video, loved it and the wise words, and then at the end, a jolt back to reality. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks very much Mike 🙏
This is absolutely cracking - you're inspiring me to try wild camping.
I can't promise my catering will be as good though.
Thanks so much!
Once you try it you'll be hooked, trust me 🏕️
Thanks for the video, and for the review. I am considering buying an X500 next spring. In your review you say there is moderate storage. I was hoping in this video you would show how you stored your camping gear and everything else you take on a multi day tour. Do you have any plans for such a video?
Thanks Sean, that's a really good point, and a good idea for a new video, so I'll get on the case.
In the meantime I can tell you in this video I took a 30l dry bag tucked into the front of the boat. Then I had a 20l and a 10l dry bag in the back plus pump, the kayak's own bag, storm lantern and a couple of other little bits. I also had a 5l dry bag for camera bits on top of the deck under the netting.
I took a bit more camping and camera gear than usual for this one because I was trying a few things out. It felt a little bit on the overloaded side but not unsafe. I'm impressed with the space, and I think by marketing this as a touring kayak, Itiwit knew they had to provide a bit of room.
Thanks for the feedback
Wow the colours of everything look so different from your summer videos. How quiet was the river at this time of year?
Extremely quiet. Just leaves and birds. And the odd paddler or live-aboard narrowboat. Unexpectedly pleasant time of year on the river.
More excellent quality content, thanks.
Question please: what hammock setup do you use, especially the tree attachment straps? Many thanks.
Thanks very much! I bought the hammock off Amazon and use the straps that come with it. It wasn't an expensive one or anything. But I'm thinking of upgrading to a DD Ultralight hammock to keep the weight and package size down
1st comment. Boom.
