The amount of spoilers and "hints wink wink" for this series is f*cking insane... what is wrong with people? Why are you here if not to see her reaction? Let her figure stuff out herself...
Yeah the wink wink mentality drives me especially nuts, like they think their "hints" are so vague and clever when really their just doing the equivalent of a person confusing using their indoor voice for whispering.
As I recall, she's binging this series until she gets caught up to the current episode, so the only people who can spoil her are her twitch chat... which apparently has already happened at some point.
@@jakken666 That's a relief to some degree since I'm impatient waiting for her to release ep 19 on RUclips. I'm glad that one wasn't spoiled, it's my most favorite so far.
Is it weird to think of Maomao as a low-key filial tsundere? “I just want him to live longer so he can teach me more.” Or episode 13: “I’m just snuggling up to him because it’s cold.” It’s cute. Basen is a hungry boy.
Oh. The matter of fact way Maomao talks about life in the red light district gives me chills. And there are many, many people who would have grown up that way, so for them, that's completely normal and commonplace. She's lucky in that she had Luomen and the women of Verdegris to raise her. There're a lot of anime that don't varnish the facts of poverty, and that includes some that became more mainstream, like _Kimetsu no Yaiba_ .
I'm surprised that she only just now realized what it meant to "reduce the value" of a courtesan. Not that her previous train of thought didn't make _some_ amount of sense, but... it was a bit more roundabout than necessary.
@@ShadowsMentorI think it's because a lot of people think courtesans is just another fancy word for prostitute and a prostitute that doesn't sleep with anyone is odd. Where as it's more also a cross with hostess and entertainer as well, like we saw in the episode where they sung, played music, and danced at a party to entertain guests. At least for the highest rankings they focus on that aspect so they can be sold as wives and concubines to extremely wealthy clients.
It's probably because out of the top ranking courtesans we know (Joka, MeiMei and Pairin) Pairin is known to have a sexual appetite, so a lot of people/reactors probably assume that their status in the brothel just allows them to be more picky about who they have sex with. Really, Pairin is the anomaly for having the rank that she does despite the fact that she's no longer "pure", but that must mean that her other skills are so well developed that she still has that much value.
The bit about where the dress Maomao's wearing came from is simultaneously hilarious and heartwarming in hindsight. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.
I hope this finds you well Alicia! I dunno if you'll read or even react to this comment, but after watching so many of your vids I gave consideration to some 'happy' series that might interest you. Feel good shows if you will, not high trauma stuff like AOT to leave you balling, but stuff like ATLA to (mostly) bring you a good mood! 1. The Dragon Prince. Sort of a fusion between ATLA and D&D in terms of tone, storytelling and worldbuilding. A beautiful fantasy world with lots of great characters, and more than a few 'babies' that you'd love to watch grow into their own. 2. Wakfu. A french anime, so watching it in dub can be awkward with the lip synch but overall the eng dub is still solid. A very bright and mystic world with lots of hidden depth but is ultimately a tale of adventure, growth and has one of the most adorable Main Character's named Yugo. 3. Barakamon. An older anime series but one of the most fun i've watched in my adult life. A true feel-good story about a calligraphy artist achieving new growth, both personal and professional. Finding his way and becoming almost like the adoptive big brother to an adorable 'baby'. This anime left me with smiles all around each episode. I hope you'll take these suggestions into consideration! But even if you don't, your content is always so enjoyable, take care! :)
Or she could watch Wakfu with the French voice for the excellent voice acting but with subtitles just she is doing now. I found the voice actors for the English version kind of so-so.

Okay so our dear Alicia has the answer to the monocled old farts question... and I can't go into detail on why it was brought up... so this episode I will instead expand on things. For those curios Maomao didn't give the other answers, and she is partially correct if we compare to the courtesans of old China, and their equivalents. The problem is if the courtesan is KNOWN to be with child, and if the child is kept. Killing the child after birth was; in some Asian cultures, also considered a form of abortion, and was a safer means to achieve that result; the other methods could inflict great harm or outright death. This was described as "returning the child to the gods", and was often offered by the midwife that assisted with the birth. This was accepted for the cultural reason of the child not being considered such until they were older, at which point they no longer belong to the gods, but to the parents. The notion arose from how easily babies died around that time, and even today babies can still die with basically no warning; though the numbers are thankfully dropping, in these cases it was believed that the gods "took back their child". The mother was not necessarily the one to make the choice either, especially a courtesan, that choice would be left to the manager of the brothel, or; in the case of other mothers, the man of the house, such as her father, husband, in-law or relative. Other causes would be disease, such as syphilis, or certain reputational issues brought about by the highborn, or other issues. A brothel with a poor reputation will see ALL it's courtesans lowered in value. On a more pleasant note if you are enjoying this Alicia you may want to check out the isekai: Ascendance of a bookworm. The LN is nearly complete at this point, and the world building, and foreshadowing are genuinely (chef's kiss) perfection.
Jinshi is a clever guy, but I love how ingenuos dumb he can be with the matters of the low class people at times. He should know that asking Maomao that question about how to make a courtesan lose value would fuck his relationship with her in a way or another. After all she herself was raised by courtesans.
