    Can we all just take a moment and appreciate Nick's shirt? It was a pretty good update too.
    The new cabs are a def big improvement, so nice to be able to do, although I kind of already know what I want from my IRs at this point. Been loving the Model T. One thing I have to agree on for sure is that feeling of being looked after by Line6... all the free updates for LIFE and actually feeling like you are being looked after by a company isn't something happens too often! It's much appreciated, and Yamaha who own Line6 are dope also.

    Hey Nick/ guys, long time chugger. I own 4 guitars, a cheap squier bullet hss strat(modded with a Duncan JB) a charvel pro mod h.h slime green with Duncan distortion, ltd iron cross with emg het-set..and an Epiphone 84 explorer custom shop with the emg 81/85. I play through my helix ltd and bypass the front end of my spider 240mk 2 with 2×12s. I'm loving all of it, and have many impulse responses from ownhammer, York etc. I'm a hard rock /thrash/80s metal nut.. occasionally doing modern drop C(ugh lol) stuff( half step down is my home though) To my POINT. I am able to freely rotate guitars for the first time in AGES ( I will come back to this point) And I love all 4 I own for different reasons.The passive ones..JB- nails early and modern EVH,Motley, Megadeth+ any "Marshally" amps Perfect..modern amps..ehh "alright".You would think my other passive guitar(charvel with Duncan distortion) would be similar..and it is, BUT..to my surprise it also handles the "modern"( diezels, bogners,revv,5150, especially mesas..omg) SURPRISINGLY well, unlike the JB. The het-set: man..just..HOT. Gobs of chunk,an airy-ness,lower mids,cut, openness ,almost like a JB had a baby with an emg 81. Handles the modern amps amazing. Then there's, well idk. The emg 81 in the bridge of my explorer is..not how I remember? I have owned an explorer with this pickup before(not the same one, long since sold)and just remember it having more "balls". It isn't weak per-se..very focused, and "compressed"is a term I hear a lot..and it's almost as if either my switch sounds like it's in the middle, or the volume is rolled of just a "hair". Took it apart, tight wiring, raised,lowered, battery, even the good old "tap each pup with a screwdriver", even took it to a tech. Anybody out there, is it either A:your emg is defective, or B: as I stated earlier, for the first time, I am able to play an emg 81 guitar, in a rotation with 3 other different one's, and what I am hearing is naturally par for the course when you compare pickups? Again..when I'm using a mesa, or 5150,with the right i.r., the 81 guitar comes SCARY close to A.J.F.A, black album, loady stuff...but..not much else:(Is it just that less hot compared to all the other options in rotation? Thanks in advance Nick/ fellow tone junkies/chuggers

My band is in the process of recording our EP and I guarantee we will be using some of your tips and tricks. Would you ever consider doing a video about dialing in a front of house tone? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

    2:13 It is nice, however if someone wants to use this for the Fredman technique, it will not be accurate, since it is 55 degree angle, not 45. Fredrick Nordstrom tells it himself. Great video anyway.

    • @NickHillMakesMusic
      @NickHillMakesMusic  Год назад +2

      Yep, you are correct but at least within the helix, we can get closer and that was my point.
      There is also lots of literature on varying degrees with various mics so while it isn’t exactly what Fred did all those years ago, we can at least experiment with the philosophy.
      Thanks for being here.
