Just a quick correction: At 1:42:31 I talk a bit about the different lineages and how the names of the parents impact the first letter of their child/descendant. There are two exceptions to this with Morgott and Mohg, both of whom are children of Godfrey, but unlike his descendants, their names don't begin with a G, most likely due to their "Omen Curse". Just wanted to make that correction for the sake of accuracy 👍
Edit: A lot of people have been commenting about the section where I mention that there should be a shortcut for Rennala, saying that there shouldn't be a stake of Marika for lore reasons, and while I completely understand that, my point was more that the run back made the fight less fun. I probably could have worded this a bit better, but what I was trying to say was I think there should be at least something there, whether it be another site of grace, a broken stake or a secret third thing, just something there to make it less of a drag. Hope everyone is liking the video otherwise though 👍

confused about the comment on rennalas boss run. there shouldn’t be a single enemy encounter on the run back, save for the rolling ball on the bridge. if you run straight out the red wolf door and then run right, jump onto the support of the bridge, then over the rail, you just have to dodge the ball, kill the NPC only one time and then never again, and then you’re at the elevator for the fight. it’s less than a minute for sure. the stake isn’t necessary

There is a shortcut for the Rennala fight, if you take a left at moongrums hangout spot you can cross a bridge and open a door. From there it cuts the run down to about a minute and you only have to dodge 3 sorcerers. Great video! 👍

My BIGGEST problem in Elden Ring is that I played Bloodborne first.
I'm a naturally offensive player in video games (seriously, like all my Pokemon have offensive moves with like one or two having ONE move that's defensive). Once I figured out that key aspect in Bloodborne's combat was centered around aggressive offensive, everything clicked for me and I "got gud".
Elden Ring borrows a lot from the more defensive combat of Dark Souls, which never was able to click with me. So often times I find myself getting greedy, taking hits as I dish them out, forgetting that Elden Ring doesn't have a rally system like Bloodborne does and I die.
This hasn't dampened my enjoyment of Elden Ring (I absolutely love it), it's just something I noticed in myself as a player.

That's why the safest way (to wait for the easiest and safest window) gets prolonged and somewhat boring. But if you get good, you'll find a lot more windows in what seemed like a terrible assault you have no option but flee from. That's when the combat starts getting beautiful and dynamic. Most of the bosses can be beaten the first way though and this is what most of the players choose (after summons and such). Some bosses will have you master the second option.

i actually prefer elden rings atmosphere way more than bbs, which i didnt find otherworldly tbh, whats so otherworldly about it if you dont mind me asking ofcourse. the story i get, but the atmosphere? i view it as basically 40 hours of grey corridors, hallways, cobbled roads and so many goddamn coffins and gravestones, even the forests were grey XD i wish there were more areas like cainhurst and hamlet where they atleast tried to diversify the color scheme, theres more to lovecraft and gothic stuff than just that. personally speaking theres just far denser and more complex uses of art and color in ER than in bb. i get the whole gothic shtick, but i guess im abit bummed out that i gave into the bb hype, i played ER first and played bb second, the way bb fans talked about its atmosphere before i played it is kinda nuts, i expected far FAR more considering ER raised my standards, but as far as im concerned ER already did cosmic horror gothic atmosphere better with its underground areas, now thats what i would call otherwordly, but to each his own ofcourse!! thats just how i see it, bb is still a souls game and all of them are some of the best games ive ever played.

My problem with Elden Ring is it doesnt feel like the culmination of Dark Souls combat, it feels too fast to be Dark Souls (I love the slow methodical gameplay of DS1 a lot) and it feels too slow and lacks the mechanics that make bloodbornes combat also great and fast like the lack of the rally system. It really feels like in Elden Ring you fight bloodborne bosses that are 10x harder, less fun and the player character is a bridge between DS3 and Bloodborne.

In Elden Ring, everything is so bad that its bosses are so dynamic, as if it's not even Bloodborne, but Sekiro, despite the fact that your character is stuck in a DS3 character. For example, you have a converted opponent, the mini-boss Giraffe from Sekiro, which is now called the Royal Revenant, you have Malenia, who uses the "One Mind" of old Isshin in a combination of 3 attacks in a row. It's a real shame, to be honest.

While, as you pointed out, finishing the game this way is totally valid, and it’s brought so many more players into the fold, I believe the way the bosses fight and are designed is actually part of story and lore as well. BB was my first challenge run, I did a BL4 (no leveling up) run, and it really deepened not only my appreciation & relationship w the game, but the lore as well.
I finished ER at level 1, and have now done DS3 as well. I think if you re-play ER w a focus on posture breaking, the way your play of BB focuses on using the gun, you’ll find another very interesting layer of boss design

While it is a lukewarm take in the community I actually consider Elden Ring to have consistently the most enjoyable bosses for me. It's mainly because of the many intricacies and the fact that they're just dopamine fests once you master them (yes even Malenia). But I still love the old hunters trifecta of bosses even though after 7 years I definitely think later bosses have gotten better.
I just think I prefer facing an insurmountable challenge then slowly learning them and having fun in the process.

That is a very controversial take tbh. Most of the community agrees that Elden Ring has some of the weakest bosses/boss designs (gameplay-wise) since ds2. By that i mean DS3, BB and Sekiro are far better in those aspects, while ER is still miles above ds2 of course and most of ds1 bosses. Not that it is bad but compared to the goats it’s not that good.
And about the insurmountable challenge I don’t understand at all what you mean, tbh i’m used to souls games and have played most of them before ER, but most of the game i felt was challenging enough like a normal/slightly hard difficulty in another game, rarely was there a challenge that felt insurmountable and when there was it seemed very obvious the game wanted me to get better gear/heals/upgrades/ruens/levels/etc and come back later like for Margit or Godrick. Except from those i never felt any insurmountable difficulty after except for some double boss fights in areas i clearly went too early, but even then very rarely. Maybe my expectations distorted my judgement, idk but except for endgame stuff like Malenia or Mogh the game isn’t more challenging than any other Fromsoftware title, even if you don’t use summons/ashes/magic/shield etc (I personally didn’t use them on my first playthrough because I don’t find them that engaging for my first time).

The community has many takes I vehemently disagree with and think are frankly stupid or misinterpreted. And personally as I played with a colossal weapon in my playthrough and noting else, I struggled with elden ring remembrance bosses the most, specifically the late game ones such as maliketh, mohg, radagon, and of course Malenia. And this is coming from someone who first tried every ds3 and bb boss on his first playthrough and most sekiro bosses as well.
And I disagree with ds3 and bb being far better. Either of them are too predictable and easy for me to enjoy more than ER. And they didn't make me think much either. Except for Gael but that's only because of the narrative stakes. As for sekiro it doesn't have enough of the top tier bosses imo. Isshin, owl and genichiro are all s+ bosses but others are low s tier at best for me. Still great but not to the level of er for me where I have 7 or 8 at the top tier.

@@ivanchaki372 malenia is a garbage boss. If you strip her of the spectacle and decency of the fight, she is nowhere NEAR as good or fairly designed as dark souls 3 and sekiro bosses. Her boss design is absolutely awful. She’s the literal epitome of everything wrong with elden rings bosses. Combos that go on for way too long, multiple one shot moves that are very obscure to dodge (cough cough waterfowl), a very long fight that gets increased even longer since she heals off of every hit, which is an awful mechanic. She is fundamentally unfinished and for some reason, the cherry on the top is that she even heals if you use a shield to block her attacks and off of spirit summons. Literal spirit summons.
It makes no sense gameplay wise or logically.
Also, I think you’re equating easy with boring in terms of dark souls 3 bosses. Yes they aren’t as hard as elden rings bosses, but that’s a good thing, since elden ring bosses feel artificially bloated due to having very few punish gaps and very unnaturally delayed attacks that hasn’t been seen before in any other souls game, other than grabs.
Gael is better than malenia in every way. He is more fun, a better spectacle, better narrative, a far better design since he’s basically guts in dark souls, he is thematically perfect, has flawless attack telegraphs that are better than I’d even say nameless king, and is the most fair difficult boss they’ve ever done. He’s quite literally the best boss fromsoft ever made.
Comparing malenia to gael is like comparing Armstrong as a final boss in mgr to him in the dlc. Both are basically the same, however the final boss version is much more fair with clear telegraphs and very well done punishment gaps, and he doesn’t repeat the same move 50 times, unlike the dlc version, which malenia does too. One is easier, but designed much better with incredible spectacle and music, the other is difficult for the sake of being difficult and poorly thought out in terms of gameplay.

@@ivanchaki372 also, elden ring has basically no S tier bosses in comparison to bosses like gael, nameless king, or isshin. Yes they may have spectacle but mechanically they aren’t well thought out. Mohg is borderline S tier, however the gimmick of needing a wonderous physick is horribly implemented, plus his first phase is literally a reused boss in the sewers, which is the most convoluted area in the game. Radahn is the only S tier I can think of, Radagon would be the same if he had less frame one attacks (the mini lightning bolts), and if elden beast wasn’t the next boss right after. Which is the worst final boss they’ve done since dark souls 2.
Godfrey is also fantastic, but that’s only 2. No minibosses in the game are S tier either.

Malenia can be staggered out of her combos if you know which moves she doesn't have hyper armors in which creates a much more interesting flow to the fight. Her moves are well telegraphed except for waterfowl which is admittedly not a well designed move. I want longer fights. And her heal per hit being terrible is your own subjective opinion. And I don't care about spirit summons since except for some duo fights I never use any.
This take that elden ring bosses don't have enough punish windows is too stupid to take seriously when even between their attacks you can safely hit them, best example of this being maliketh. And I don't find them unnaturally delayed for the most part as many of these delayed attacks act as openings.
Gael was once upon a time my favorite boss as well but aside from his spectacle and narrative factor, his fight doesn't get interesting mechanically until phase 3. His moves are way too predictable and there's nothing to spice things up.
I haven't played MGR's dlc so I can't comment on that comparison but everything you said implies that you tried to play er as ds3 and suffered as a consequence. All of your takes seem influenced by that which I vehemently disagree with. Subjectivity is a thing when quality of bosses are to be discussed and trying to present your own subjective opinions as factual arguments is simply a weak tactic.

I personally do like using shields, despite often playing over aggressively and dying for it. The way I use a shield, is I block if I see an attack coming but don't have enough time to dodge it properly, which deflects some, or sometimes all, damage (i use them mostly in boss fights). I don't think that this prevents me from learning boss movests, but instead makes the process less punishing.

one part i really disagree with is what you said about the way bloodborne tells its story; saying its vague is doing it a great disservice. It is vague in the sense that there aren't outright dialogues and cutscenes that give you the exposition, it uses every aspect of storytelling that is exclusive to video games to dictate its narrative, and even though like you said most people don't quite understand the exact story of what happens on their first playthrough, the game constantly beckons them to pay attention to details and when you finish the game, you have a basis for what you feel like about the story of the game, even if you don't understand what it is exactly. When you then either replay the game with greater attention to detail or watch lore vids online, you then start to piece everything together and you get stories to attach to feelings you previously had about a boss fight or a character or a level.

Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game. As soon as I realized that I didn’t have to fight the Tree Sentinel I realized that I didn’t WANT to leave without killing it anyway. It probably took me more tries than all the other demigods combined but I chipped him down with my starting equipment and felt like a god. I left that fight with a new ability to analyze boss movesets, a cool spear I wasn’t even close to being able to use, and with the understanding that because of my own mentality I’d probably end up doing that (brute-forcing something ridiculous) a bunch more times before I finished the game.

Some of them have just terrible scaling without making up for it with base stats. Two is the hardest boss in these 2 games. I believe that the Abhorrent Beast takes that cake with ease! He's as quick as the black hand assassins while having the power of Redahn. Truly unforgiving!

      @Igneous200 Год назад +1

the main thing about bloodborne’s weapons is that stats matter much less than moveset, like blades of mercy. this isn’t to say that all weapons follow that. Some have good damage but bad moveset, like kirkhammer. Some have bad damage and movesets, like the cane. some are just middle of the road for everything like the axe. and some are great at everything, like saw cleaver/spear, ludwig’s and hms, whirligig, rakuyo, etc. The point is that even with those worse weapons like kirkhammer or cane, they can still be perfectly serviceable

Every weapon in Bloodborne is viable though, lol. Unless you wanna really get into specifics of the firearms, you can use every right handed weapon to beat every boss. And even with that, Flamesprayer and Rosmarinus are both able to solo almost every boss. The only weapon I can slightly think of being tougher to use is Blade of Mercy and Amygdalan Arm which both require incredibly specific mixed-arcane builds. ER's weapons have stupidly inflated damage numbers so comparing them is obviously only going to have one outcome.

Finally, someone noticed this. The two games are similar to the point where Elden Ring reuses some cut scenes and models. It seems From Software wanted to achieve the same success as they did with Bloodborne. And for that, they decided to mimic the old game in some ways. Whether by creating a certain feel during the game or by applying the old tools. But the game still does not feel as good as Bloodborne.

Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time. Elden Ring doesn't make my top ten. Top 50, it'd be in there somewhere. I like it okay but I have huge gaping problems with it. And my problems with it are probably things people praise it for. I don't like the scale of it. There is too much of literally everything. Too much map. Too many reused bosses. Too much armor, weapons and spells. You name it there's too much of it. Bloodborne has quality not quantity. It's a massively smaller game by comparison. But I love it. I love that I can beat it in several hours. I'm far more inclined to dive back in over and over again when it's not a huge time investment. Elden Ring I beat with well over 100 hours with a walkthrough to help shorten the experience and I didn't feel satisfied. I felt relief it was finally over. And I've felt zero obligation to ever boot it up again. You probably think it hated the whole thing then. Actually no. I loved the Legacy Dungeons. They were my favorite part. I have nothing but praise for the Legacy Dungeons. The magic school being my favorite. Also the game is gorgeous at times. I can't deny that. And being able to swap out special moves with different gear is brilliant. I just can't tell you how many times I'd explore just to find something I would never use. That was 99% of the game for me. I didn't want to explore in a game about exploring.

Nailed my own thoughts on the combat/gameplay comparison. Bloodborne (and Sekiro even more so) are more honed in on a specific playstyle. This does have a pretty noticable effect on bosses as in BB and Sekiro they could be crafted woth the players tools and mobility spcifically in mind. Elden Rings huge variety of different things you can use in a bossfight makes balancing them borderline impossible, so we end up with bosses like Malenia who feel way too fast and extremely difficult for players standard kit, but become pushovers when you throw a spirit ash at them.
Generally, Elden Ring feels like it lacks focus in its overall design philosophy. BB and Sekiro are razor sharp in this regard, to the point actual combat and gameplay intersect with the theme and story of the game. "Line between beast and man is blurred" and "Hesitation is defeat" perfectly capture essence of BB' and Sekiros combat. I cant think of a similiar theme in ER.
ER still a great game, and preferring one thing over another is subjective. I personally feel like it falls short of BB and Sekiro, but pretty much ties with DS3. DS3 of course has less stuff and smaller world, but the bosses I think are much better suited to DS3/ER style of combat and are top tier.

When comparing the two I will say this
I prefer Bloodborne’s music and levels, as Yharnam, Yahargul, and now that I’ve actually warmed up to it, even the Forbidden Woods and Hemwick Charnel Lane are fucking gorgeous, also Bergenwyrth lake alone is enough to keep me entranced, it’s like I’m in Majula
HOWEVER, Elden Ring gets me with exploration as well as better boss design in my personal opinion, also, while I enjoyed the AESTHETICS of Bloodborne’s levels, I do prefer the MECHANICS of Elden Ring’s, as they feel easier to navigate
And if someone wants to ask why I prefer Elden Ring’s bosses to Bloodborne’s, it comes down to two reasons
    1. Elden Ring’s bosses don’t end in 15 seconds, I swear most Bloodborne bosses have the healthbar of an early born infant with a health defect, compared to Elden Ring where the bosses have decent sized healthbars, and thanks to the rally system, I don’t have to fear getting more damage in against Bloodborne bosses. Im not kidding when I say I beat every boss first attempt on my first playthrough except Ebrietas, Mergo’s Wet Nurse and Gehrman (I didn’t and still don’t have the DLC, I’m getting it soon though) whereas every Elden Ring boss kicked my ass at least once before I got the hang of it. Not a single Elden Ring boss left me with a first attempt, because their bigger healthbars meant the fight lasted longer, and actually forced me to learn a moveset, instead of flailing wildly after eating a Beast Blood Pellet and attaching Bolt Paper or Fire Paper. The second reason is because Elden Ring’s ability to give fast paced combat while still feeling like Dark Souls was just better executed in my opinion
I will give Bloodborne credit for having more aesthetically pleasing bosses, as where Elden Ring focused on mystique and grandness for their boss designs, Bloodborne’s bosses seemed to have more of a horrific yet badass design idea to them (except Micolash but we don’t talk about him)
Then there’s music, and good lord, Bloodborne’s music alone is just GLORIOUS, as it both sounds phenomenal, while the Latin lyrics contain lore for the games, like how the first part of Laurence’s theme in Latin talks about the discovery of the Old Blood and how amazing it is, only for the second half to shift to how horrifying the blood is and how they should’ve feared it all along, also, Ludwig…holy fuck Ludwig the Holy Blade OST is bar none some of the GREATEST music to come from a video game PERIOD, and it alone outshines any music from Elden Ring, especially since the second phase is a WALTZ, because now that Ludwig fights like a human, the fight went from hunting a beast to a dance of blades. Elden Ring’s music simply can’t compare
In terms of combat I do prefer Elden Ring, as it’s wider variety of magic, weapons and combat styles just far outshine Bloodborne which only has a few combat styles available, and most will likely only stick to using a simple trick weapon, and parry what they can while landing combos on what they can’t parry. Bloodborne’s isn’t bad, so much as it is limited in comparison, and besides, I far enjoy Elden Ring’s magic to Bloodborne’s (especially since I don’t get one shotted by Call From Beyond…fucking Micolash keeping me trapped in a small cage like the asshole he is)
Let’s see what else do we have to go through? Uhhh GRAPHICS, yeah that’s a no brainer that Elden Ring wins there. Sony is doing nothing with BB anytime soon, meaning I doubt we’ll be seeing improved graphics and 60 FPS anytime in the near future unfortunately. Hell I’d settle for the lazy upscale at this point, I just wanna see SOMETHING to show it hasn’t been forgotten
Story is a personal preference, but I prefer Elden Ring, because at least in Elden Ring, I feel truly rewarded for my actions. I can say I made a good change when I beat Elden Ring, but in Bloodborne, the cycle just continues which is just depressing, also, I hate having to kill one person, just to protect others, especially since I just doom others by helping that one guy (I never learned his name, but he’s the guy who turns into a beast and kills everyone in Oedon Chapel if you send him there)
Characters in Elden Ring feel more memorable too. I can recall all my moments with Alexander, Millicent, Boc and Hewg, but I really couldn’t care less about Eileen, and both Melina and Doll feel lame in my opinion since one is never around, and the other doesn’t really have much to say. Chapel Dweller and Roderika are two characters I would defend with my body, mind and soul, and Patches can go fuck himself in both games
Overall, I personally enjoy Elden Ring better, however I’ve come a long way with Bloodborne. Back when I first played it, I hated it with a fiery passion. It took three playthroughs to change my mind on it, and I’ve come to both respect and enjoy it a lot. However given the Soulsborne community’s stance on it, I’ll put Bloodborne next to Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 on my favourites of the series
I’m looking forward to the DLC when I get it, because Elden Ring’s was phenomenal and I can only imagine greatness from Bloodborne’s

You very rarely feel cheated out, and that is the one thing it can be objectively compared to bloodborne, and it is objectively better in that sense.
But this isnt me simping for Elden Ring, i see that game as the most flawed entry alongside DS2, while Bloodborne, thanks to its narrow and focused scope, the game is borderline perfect. But if we bring what CAN be objectively compared in the combat, Elden Ring doeswhat can be compare 1 to 1 far better than bloodborne, because from soft doesnt just unlearn after every entry, they get better.

Both the pinnacle of Soulsborne games, and there's no wrong in playing one or the other. I feel both games have great bosses, except for some in Bloodborne being mediocre/bad (Nicolach, Witches, Living Failures, Darkbeast Paarl and more).
I feel the side content in both games reuses content, a lot. But ER the more important dungeons are marked, and most of the tend to be short, visually distinct and unique gimmicks (chariots, teleporting chests, jumping platforms, etc). Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeons feel less visually distinct, don't have gimmicks as unique as the ones in ER (unless reducing your health counts as one), are longer, there's not a lot of enemy/trap variety and there's also reuses of enemies and bosses as dungeon bosses.
Other than that, Bloodborne is my favorite, but I feel ER feels more consistent (at least in areas, main bosses and side content).
