Hey ! Thanks for the great content on your channel 🤩 The first tutorial of the video BOGGLES THE MIND of the spectator, I'm telling you that. If you're able to feel the perfect amount of "drama" to setup arround it, your participant will be amazed. A very strong trick and I'm shocked that it's so technically easy ! All the best 👋
I've been enjoying the 1800 deck from Ellusionist. The markings are easy to read while not being SUPER obvious since they blend in with the old worn design. Great deck for spooky tricks. The obvious drawback is when the deck is new. It gives off the "not traditional" and "must be gaffed" since they look very old but feel and run like a fresh deck. But after a few years of use. Natural wear helps aid this drawback and I've found hardly anyone really questions it anymore except for the super skeptics. It's my only marked reader deck that most folks can't see it unless they spend 30 seconds or more studying the backs. Unlike the decks you showed, which can be picked up almost right away. I love using it around Halloween and weave ghost stories around the deck due to it's aesthetic. It's best if you get the V2 so the box doesn't have the "Ellusionist" branding on the side. Which is another easy tell.
That packet trick w/ marked cards is a great variation. I really like using marked cards as key cards or in packet tricks because once the spectator cuts their selected card (legitimately out of site of you) or buries it in a packet you force, even if somebody _suspected_ something fishy the fact that you never even saw the back of their card instantly dispels that idea.
I bought these and I'm very happy with these. I played poker with these and my friends where a bit suspicious of my winning spree and my brother joked if these are marked cards. Because of that one of my friends tried to find a marking for a good 5 minutes. I was sweating blood, but he didn't find anything :))
Haha! I love that!! Here’s a funny story for you. Once I had made a marked deck and I thought I had misplaced it somewhere. Turns out it was the deck I had been practicing with for the last few weeks. Never even occurred to me that it was a marked deck.
Dude! I literally got my marked maiden backs in the mail yesterday! Super psyched to hear your ideas. I watched Rick lax little marked deck tutorial and was not impressed but these cards are devastating in the right hands. Thanks Sean!
I have my own system for marking a deck but never really knew any good tricks that I could do with the deck. These that you have shown are AWESOME tricks to do! Thank you so much for making this video!
A few of the marked decks I have use codes. My approach to using a code marking system is viewing the code as an image, and once I have that image in my head I can decode it without having to continue looking at the card.
New Sub! Thanks for making this video, The very first trick you showed is also the first trick I learned many years ago with the deckram deck, I love the penguin marked decks because I can abuse them, rip cards, etc.. the cost is $5.00 per deck which makes them extremely affordable (buying by the brick) one trick I remember using a confederate (stooge) is to assign a persons name to each card (7❤️ - Mark, 8♠️ John, Q♦️ Bob, J♣️ -Larry) you get the point just get a piece of paper and write all the codes down and give to your confederate , You can also use a cheat sheet yourself as this isn’t something you will use everyday like you would a Mneumonica stack. Now have the spectator pick a card using any method (Free choice is best) tell them to hide it and not show you or tell you what the card is, Fail to find it and then Ask the spectator if they can call your friend (Mark) their card is the 7❤️ as soon as the confederate is called they look at the name on the cheat sheet, and have them predict the card. This becomes a miracle and if performing for a potential client this is a good trick to prepare for because it will get you gigs. Thanks for the video and good-luck with your channel.
Top video, top effects, I think the second reduy effect can be performed even without marked cards. Ever since I followed your channel my sleights and techniques have progressed just fine. Even my wife told me that she too noticed that my techniques were “more fluid”. Yet my wife is the person I always show first if I have learned or practiced something new. My opinion is that this channel will gather countless followers in a very short time. Always original, always something new that was not hundreds of other channels already. And of course it doesn't matter if you are a beginner, middle level or pro, here you have something to learn or to at least fix something with your techniques. I say all this from personal experience because since I've been on this channel, it's all happened to me: P
I couldn't agree more. Even in dim light and at full arm's length the DMC Elites are easily read. It's like the markings are a neon light on the back of the card if you know what to look for, but no spectator can read them even with careful examination.
Thank you for this. I've been in magic for a very long time but now have vision issues. It drives me crazy that ads and reviews don't show the system, because I have to waste money buying cards I can't read. But actually, I've just stopped buying them altogether. Now, thanks to your video, I'm tempted by those Penguin cards because of the 6 x marking - that's great! They will get some business thanks to you, and I'll be and enjoying md tricks again! Though somehow the Cohorts system feels very legible too.... hmmmm, maybe I'll try both! You're a gentleman, thank you.
I'm glad I could help you out!! And I hope those cards work well for you! Another great marked deck that I didn't mention in the video is the DMC Elites. A little pricey, but totally worth it. You can literally read them from 5 feet away.
@@SeanDevine Yes, somebody mentioned the DMC to me, but I'm close-up only and they warned me they might be a bit too obvious...? I do a lot of 'In-their-hands' material where I try to hardly touch the deck. In fact, the older I get, the more of a Lazy Man's Routine I have!
Oh man, I'm an avid marked deck collector and I could never make out the markings on them until I bought the deck and learned how to read them. There's no way a laymen could ever notice it! It's probably the best marked deck ever made. I didn't include it in the list because it didn't coincide with the criteria of affordable options.
@@SeanDevine Really! You couldn't decipher them? Is it a Reader deck? Now I am intrigued! I'll see if I can borrow a deck from a pal... try it for size. Since they're pricey I might have to prise them out of my pal's sticky, side-jogged grip haha!
Yeah!! The DMC V5 is the most brilliant because not only is it reader marked, it's also numerically marked. The 4C is marked 1, and the 9D is marked 52 😎.
I was thinking of a "sticky" magic trick using these. Shuffle the deck. Take 5-cards off the top and show them the values. Then tell them that based upon the first 5-cards, you can determine the next card to follow that. To expand the trick do 2-cards at a time. Many more than that though and they might get suspicious. It's easy. Shuffle. Lay out 5-cards, pretend you are looking at the face-up cards when in fact you are looking at the face-down card. Step back. Call the face down card. Important, NEVER let them handle the cards during the trick. When you're done though, yeah, give the cards a good shuffle and hand them to them to examine. Repeat the trick again if you like once again calling 1-2 face down cards based upon the 5. You could even expand by making a 5-card diamond with the face-up and rotate them until you're certain you know which the face down card is, making them think the trick is formulaic or the 6th card is by somehow reading the other 5-cards.
I'm with you on Readers vs Symbols. I have a ton of Penguin Marked decks-- Nobody has ever caught me. I also have a bunch of DMC Elites V5-- bought a bunch of V5 red- and then bought a bunch of Cobalt Blue V5's straight from DMC store. 6 mos ago I got on a Butterfly deck kick-- the one way edge markings by Ondrej-- Can do amazing things with that deck-- and I bought around 100 of them-- but have gone back to my good old Penguin decks for performing. I never want to be caught staring at a card trying to decode the markings . And I don't like people signing cards on a $12-$15 deck !!!!
@@SeanDevine Yeah I went crazy w the Butterflies-- Ha!!-- I found an online retailer that went down to around $12/deck if I bought in bulk-- down from $15/deck-- so I actually have over 100 of them. But yes the DMC's are my favorite-- I just ordered 20 more when went on sale yesterday so that puts me at around 125 DMC's!!!!! and then there's the Penguin Marked Maiden backed-- I have more of those than can ever count. I really like DMC's for marked deck work because so easy to read from 2-3 ft away.
I own the first two decks and love them (don't have the penguin magic one though) and I have made my own marked deck.. however that PM marking system looks really really good! I will be making that deck tonight! TY Sean !!

Subjectively, the David Blaine white lions are also marked for practicality. Being able to read the cards in the first place is a bit of a knack due to the mechanics, but once you do learn how it works you’ll be able to read it from across the room (not an exaggeration if your eyesight is somewhat decent). I love marked decks and I love collecting them. However, my favorite marked deck is the red Bicycle decks that I marked myself. I use the flower petals (by the hand of the merman) for the value and the shell-like for the suit. The red fine tip Sharpie blends it perfectly. And thanks for sharing with us those 3 tricks with marked decks. The 1st trick, I perform that all the time. Gets crazy reactions.
I think butterfly playing cards should be on your top list marked deck 😀, because the system marking deck so amazing, l love and using this deck for daily cardtrick
everyday pack of cards, you can buy in a local store, 'IF' you live in the USA in the UK the Bridge size playing cards come in at 2.25 inches by 3.5 inches (57mm X 89mm). pokercards are 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (64mm X 89mm) also Waddington No.1 Playing Cards are most comen in UK you'll not find Bicycle cards
This video focused on a certain criteria. One of them being price. The DMCs are rather expensive! But yes, they are one of my favorite marked decks for sure.
Amazing decks and tricks Sean! I only have one marked deck but I am hoping to purchase a few more in the future. If you have the Keepers can you do a video on the marking system. I can't find the markings. #Roadto2K!
As a lefty is there a reason why you chose the top left/bottom right for your marking system? I'm a big fan of cohorts. They're easy to read and I like scroll work in back designs. I do wish they were printed by USPCC and had thicker borders though. The ghost ones are great for the faded borders.
Good question! I think it's just what I'm familiar with. If i did it different, I'd have to retrain my eyes to look in a different spot. Just like with books...if there was a magic book written for a left handed person, it would confuse me more than making it easier.
This is what I use! www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Permanent-Marker-Ultra-12-Count/dp/B077493RCZ/ref=asc_df_B077493RCZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241973154385&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9704703979085591886&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023808&hvtargid=pla-591523701792&psc=1
Excellent review, but I had a lot of trouble marking the standard Bicycle deck. The sharpie would immediately wipe off of the surface of the card. How do you get around this problem?
The best marked card tricks don't feel like marked card tricks - they feel like something else happened that didn't involve you somehow knowing the card.
Dope video man! We love when Sean puts out vids 10+ minutes long!🙏🏻 Surprised the Boris Wild marked deck didn’t make this list, it’s my fave. What do you think about it?
Thanks man!! Oh I love the Boris Wild marked deck. I didn't include it for 2 reasons. It's a bit pricey, so it didn't really meet the criteria for this list. It's also very similar to the GT Speedreader, so I just wanted alot of variety. Same thing with the DMC Marked deck! In my opnion one of the best marked decks ever made. But again, it's a little too expensive for this list. I plan on making another maked deck video with decks like the Butterflies and things with no criteria
@@SeanDevine is this also the reason, why the phoenix marked deck is not included? or are you just not a fan? in my opinion it's one of the best, but really not cheap
It's really funny how stupid these tricks are when you know the cards are marked but how absolutely wonderful and mindblowing they are to the spectator. XD
WHY WHY WHY are the marks nearest my view printed upside down??? This has been a thorn in my side for years and everytime I hear of a new deck and I see or buy it DAMMIT there it is PRINTED UPSIDE DOWN on my side and rightside up on the FAR side. Are we so locked in that no one THINKS it would be better for the nearest end to be read the easiest??? It would SEEM obvious to do this.
Are you saying that from experience? Because from my experience, I’ve never once had someone notice the markings. And I use these quite a bit! You just have to be confident and act natural.
@@SeanDevine I once accidentaly bought marked ones and before long, I noticed it. But not immediately tho. I guess I'm just afraid someone else might notice the way I did. My marked deck now has the mint system.

Amazing decks and tricks Sean! I only have one marked deck but I am hoping to purchase a few more in the future. If you have the Keepers can you do a video on the marking system. I can't find the markings.
#Roadto2K!
Hey John! Only the red Keepers are marked. The marking are in the corners, located inside of the flowers!
21 just got adin with these lmaoo
What's your opinion on Mint2 deck?
Some coded decks are good! Very few lol. I’ve never had the Mint deck. Low key always wanted one.
Nice
Ultimate Marked Deck in rider back if you can still find some 😜
How can I order those cards ? Please can you give me idea ?
Link in the description!
I’m interested in making the PM deck. What’s the best size sharpie? Fine or ultra-fine? Hard to find in navy even on Amazon,
This is what I use! www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Permanent-Marker-Ultra-12-Count/dp/B077493RCZ/ref=asc_df_B077493RCZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241973154385&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9704703979085591886&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023808&hvtargid=pla-591523701792&psc=1

I have my own markings but it’s so time consuming I need a lot of decks on standby could you make them ? If told you how I wanted them marked
I could certainly try!
I've got the cohorts and they're very good except why mark 10 as an X and make it look the same as a K ?Why not use T ?
Yeah I hate that about cohorts lol
👍
I have the dmc elites..cohorts and bicycle maiden backs.. but I find the maiden backs waaaaaaay to obvious! 😂
That's what thought too! But nobody ever notices!
1:35 Review begins.
Cohorts all day
Yeah boi!
Excellent review, but I had a lot of trouble marking the standard Bicycle deck. The sharpie would immediately wipe off of the surface of the card. How do you get around this problem?
Ever considered how annoying phones ringing in background?
It’s background music.
I have seen more of your vids that don't have anything but your voice, which is very clean and you have a great voice ❤️
Is butterfly decks marked ?
Yes. But they don't fit my criteria for this list. They are rather expensive and they don't really look like a "normal" deck.
@@SeanDevine that is correct btw nice video
The best marked card tricks don't feel like marked card tricks - they feel like something else happened that didn't involve you somehow knowing the card.
Don’t all card tricks involve you somehow knowing the card? Lol.
XD
I know!!!
Sir mark card order
Where is the 3 and the letter H
21 savage sent me here 😂
Market chahe
Never used marked deck😭😭😭
21 savage method W scammer
WHY WHY WHY are the marks nearest my view printed upside down??? This has been a thorn in my side for years and everytime I hear of a new deck and I see or buy it DAMMIT there it is PRINTED UPSIDE DOWN on my side and rightside up on the FAR side. Are we so locked in that no one THINKS it would be better for the nearest end to be read the easiest??? It would SEEM obvious to do this.
Spectators don’t care about the back of the cards that’s the reason why they don’t notice the markings
The bicycle marked cards are too risky and visible.
Rm????????????
I used a black sharpie on a red deck and no one has ever said anything
Subtitel indonesia plis
I've been at Adin's scamming him
Feelin' like a scammeeeer
number 3 is way to obvious. 4th deck it's not even hidden, not even trying.
Those are all reader backs not marked cards
