Good news is this series is finally over but I will start a new series called "Chinese characters and culture" very soon.
In this last of the series: I will talk about three more Chinese characters: God or divine, "think" or desire, and the West. All these three characters are related to garden, Adam and Eve's garden.
I think China is the worst English name for my country. Zhongguo is one proper name. Zhong means "Middle", guo means "Kingdom" or "country". So China literally means "The Middle Kingdom". Well, kingdom must have a queen like Great Britain or a king like His Majesty Obama in USA.
China has nothing.
China has another name: Shenzhou, in English, it means "God's land or Divine land." The name "Shenzhou" is even used to name Chinese manned spacecrafts, like "Shenzhou 5, shenzhou 6, and shenzhou 7 and so on.
Let's take a look at "God" or shen first. it has two parts: this first part means "command" and the second part is "lighting". God's command sound like a thunder, and bright as a lighting.
Now the second word is "think", "desire". This character has two parts: garden plus heart.
Last character is "west". It has three parts. one man's enclosure or one man's paradise. In my hometown, when a old man dies, his soul will be directed to the west. In his funeral, someone would use a long pole and say loudly: "Go to the West", "Go to the West".
Of course, the west doesn't refer to the western world, like Europe or America. It refers to a paradise, a place of one man.
