    Elton's original version is the best. Musicians like him come around once in a lifetime

    Genius of Sir Elton and Bernie. Professional cover by Ryan. But, those of us who have loved this song these 45+ years-always look for and enjoy it when we get to hear even a little of that mandolin.

      I'm supposed to be tough, but this song is maybe a sign that I am not. I began when I was young. More recent years involved me with practical hand to hand combative methods and firearm training and usage. I've seen versions of just how bad human beings can be. However, apparently despite the callous nature I've developed, I can't utter the words of this song without losing my voice. I am not tough. I'm not hard. Never was. My seemingly weak defenses regarding it's tones and the feeling it brings about, leaves me thinking.

      Those qualities are exactly what make you legitimately tough.

      Self True
      I'm glad you think so. These days, I don't think I know what it means anyway. I appreciate you having said something, however.

    This song is so enjoyable to play on piano. Key of C, which, on the piano, is the easiest key. So I can relax and have fun with it. Its a go-to performance for me; I can generally play it without error.

    Good Lord, that was beautiful! I've been lucky to see Elton live twice in my life; once in 2002, and once in....2010, I believe. Both were utterly amazing performances.
    Thank you so much for posting this.

      +Don't knock the rock Sorry, but no one sings it quite like Ryan Adams does. I usually cry when I hear Ryan sing it, especially in concert. When he gets to the last verse and sings, "the sweetest winds blow across the south", I am as still and quiet as I can be. He sings this song so beautifully.

    • @robertjenkins5999

      "the sweetest winds blow across the south" is in "oh my sweet carolina." not this song.

    • @torbenskaaning8550
      @torbenskaaning8550  8 лет назад

      True. And he's only played Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters this one time, so Ellen Eggers must have the two songs mixed up.

      Don't knock the rock, I disagree. Its Eltons song so you cant take that from him. Personally, my favorite version is Heart, live in Seattle. Just my opinion

    I was influenced to correct for the mysterious aura surrounding the song ‘Spanish Harlem’ as well as taking the political/ industrial opportunities for questioning broadway’s worth again..?

    I like the Heart version better! Ryan doesn't have the soul for this, IMO.
