True. But sadly it probably won't be hosting the final - if the US get their way....which they invariably will. It's highly likely that the final WILL be held in an American stadium - either NY's 'Metlife Stadium', LA's 'SoFi Stadium', or 'Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Arena'. Not sure what FIFA's thoughts on this are, but knowing them they'll probably side with the US. Because FIFA are like that. Logic and common sense don't seem to apply to them!

How did Mexicans managed to build such great stadiums that even look better than ones in Europe at that time ? For example, compare Spain 1982 and Mexico 1986 !
Hosting a WC is a way to show yourself on the international stage. Usually a lot of taxpayer money goes into projects like this. Some governments are more interested and able to pay this much to leave a good impression on the world.
Great stadiums? Architecturally I suppose, but they lacked facilities, Jalisco is literally over the streets and even back then good luck finding a parking space, same with 3 de Marzo. Probably the bad pitches helped Maradona dominate the way he did that summer, well, at least I know the English weren't too happy and not just because of the "hand of god" goal.
Nice video! I think changes made in the San Siro over the years are impressive from the WC1934 to WC1990. And I hope I can travel to the next World Cup and see few matches.
3:24 the correct name is Estádio Independência. Sete de setembro means September 7th, that's the Independence day from Brazil and was the name of the club that played in that stadium
It’s too bad so many of the stadiums from ‘10, ‘14, and ‘18 are now just sitting unused. I really love the look of the new Al Bayt stadium for this WC. But as for my favorite I guess it will have to be the MetLife bc it’s only 15 minutes from my house so I’ll be able to easily watch the games for the next WC there😂
Make sure to buy the tickets as soon as they available since the demand will be huge Qatar stadiums also will remain unused after this WC. Good thing that USA have already tons of FIFA standard stadiums in use

@@Rafael-pi4md Qatar hosted the upcoming 2023 Asian Cup. I guess, all World Cup stadiums are used, except the currently demolished 974. Not to mention, they are intended to host 2030 Asian Games and 2036 Olympics.
The biggest earthquake in history was in 1960, 9.5 Richter, it destroyed half of Chile only 2 years before the World Cup, resources were diverted for reconstruction, the 2nd largest stadium in Concepcion (35,000) could only be finished at the beginning 1963, that is why the Arica stadium was occupied on the border with Peru, 2,500 km from Santiago, since it was not affected by the earthquake
To be fair, the Chile earthquake in 1960 was regarded as the worst one, despite the 2004 earthquake was the most devastating that killed a quarter of world's population.
Wow there were a lot of stadiums being played in Spain 1982! My favorite stadium would be AT&T in Dallas then Azteca then the rest of the american ones there all smart and BC place in Canada was also cool. My favorite World Cup tournament would have to have been 2014 in Brazil.

Thank you so much for this great video. So much information and so many great memories. I hope the 2030 World Cup is awarded to England, that would be a dream to go watch in person.
A UK/Ireland bid was mentioned but they decided to withdraw and concentrate on a Euro 2028 bid. I personally hope the 2030 WC goes to Uruguay/Argentina/Chile/Paraguay.
France 1998 had mostly stadiums from the 30s and before, and had only one purpose built stadium. In contrast, Japan South Korea 2002 had mostly purpose built stadiums and only a few pre-existing stadiums, all in Japan. Why is this the case?
I don't think South Korea had any football specific stadiums, they were all multi-purpose venues with track & field which was useful for the Olympics but not the World Cup, and I believe FIFA had more stringent rules so rather than revamping them it appears it was easier to build new ones.
It's cheaper to reuse existing venues, Brazil is screwed because most of the stadiums they built are unused, after the World Cup nobody wanted to take care of Maracana because the maintenance costs are too high, the US is going to use NFL stadiums for 2026
Interesting that for the 1974 cup in Germany, all the stadiums except one were track and field stadiums. I would've expected Germany to have more soccer specific stadiums, given how big the game is there, historically.
I think for most sports enthusiasts football seems a bit undisciplined so I assume the Nazis weren't very keen on promoting the sport and rather wanted the Germans to excel in track & field, also as they were banned from competition for several years they didn't have the resources to build such projects and instead used what was already there. The win in 1954 was truly a miracle as they transformed the team into the perennial contenders we know today, but as the economy was still recovering many of the players had daytime jobs to support themselves so again, with money still scarce I don't think having a purpose built stadium would've been a popular choice.
Berlin & Munich were reused venues from the 1938 & 1972 Olympics, the whole building brand new stadiums didn't start until 1990 when Italy built Delle Alpi for the 1990 WC
Now that I think about it, the 1986 World Cup was originally going to be held in Colombia, which in the end was not possible and Mexico hosted it. What could have been the stadiums used if in the end it had been made in that country?
3:26 = Estádio Sete de Setembro, also know as Estádio Independência, in Belo Horizonte, home of the biggest upset in World Cup history when the amateur team of USA beat the professional team and one of the favorite team for the title, England.
Montreal Olympic is a terrible stadium, Rogers Centre is permanently locked in baseball configuration, idk about Caesars Superdome but i doubt there would be much support locally for it to host as a WC venue

But the stadium still one of the masterpieces of architecture, for its beauty, grandeur and for its design totally ahead of its time.
