People travelling from other countries are about to find out just how car-dependent everything in America is. Almost every stadium is outside of its city and everyone is expected to drive there so it has an enormous parking lot several times bigger than the stadium itself.
I was looking for this comment! I wonder if cities such as Houston, Dallas or Kansas City would implement some kind of public transit in their cities or attempt to fix their horrible urban planning issues for the event, like what Salt Lake City did with the 2002 olympics (they built light rail and the frontrunner to serve primarily the venue and now they're extensive transit systems that serve everyone and get better as time goes on).
@@sygneg7348 Good idea! Houston's stadium is currently served by a light rail stop; Dallas is highly unlikely since Arlington isn't part of DART and has no interest; Kansas City would be amazing, they have rail lines already pretty nearby the stadium
Good point. That's why the 1994 World Cup to this day was the least expensive World Cup to ever have been put on. It costs the US (whether federal or state or county or city etc...) a combined total of about $500 million.
There is no football culture here. And the distances are immense. Russia was criticized bc supposedly the country was too big even though they put all the stadiums in the western part of the country. That won't be the case here. Why should they already get a second World Cup? There is not even any good public transport system here.
@@luperamos7307 I sympathise but public transport will probably have to be provided to stadiums as part of the deal with FIFA. With other infrastructure already there is a little stadium repurposing costs and the trains will be improved.
@@luperamos7307 Uhhh the public transport in the US is no worse than across-border public transport in Europe. Also, the distances are so far that to go from the East Coast to the West Coast it's just as fast as rail to drive along the interstates (i80, i30, or i20). And the US-Mexico border is so tight that there's no point in watching games in both countries; it's such a hassle to get over the border, so you basically either stay in the US and watch the games that are played there or you stay in Mexico and only watch the games that are played there.
@@randomoneforstuff3696 So how can you even have countries join that have such a tight border? And the public transport is far worse in the US. Some guy even make videos about it. And the Olympics usually have that as a requirement, which is why many cities always built subways when they had the Olympics. For some reason that doesn't apply to Los Angeles. And for Fifa it used to be similar. You also assume that people can just easily pay to travel these huge distances. You basically would need to fly bc not even a rental car would help you cover those huge distances. And when you fly and stay in a city for 3 days you are probably better off using public transport, which doesn't really exist. I live in L.A. and you can't get anywhere without a car. Just to reach the lame subway here I have to drive 30 minutes by car. Then I have to take it 40 minutes in the wrong direction before connecting to go where I want to go and take another 40 plus minutes. They couldn't just build it straight and there aren't many lines. Freeways are always expanded and they basically resemble giant parking lots during rush hour. How fans should pay the prices here I don't know either. It's clear that only a very small segment of fans can afford this and cover those distances. It's basically a World Cup for people who live here and may have family here, which many Mexicans do.
48 teams will dilute the quality but of course it will make FIFA more money. Quite ridiculous. Just the way the 24 team European Championship has ruined what used to be the best and most competitive competition in international football.
@@rl9legend770 3 teams can now qualify from groups in the European Championships, even with the lower caliber of competition they just need draws. The group stages are almost certainly not more interesting. The tournament is worse now. The proposal for the World Cup with 48 teams is like 16 groups of three and then a next round of about 32. Just insane to change a winning formula.
48 teams is ludicrous. With 32, there are teams who have absolutely no hope of winning the tournament or advancing beyond the group (Canada, Qatar as the clearest examples from the current tournament). What's the point of throwing in 16 more no-hopers?
The 2026 World Cup will no doubt be one of, if not the biggest sporting event in Human History. It could also work as a foundation to form better relations between Mexico, Canada, and the USA.

How are winners in the Olympics not "true" world champions if the whole world competes? Also I think calling NBA/MLB/NFL winners world champions is a bit weird, but it makes sense. The best player's in the world come here to play in those leagues, therefore the winning team is truly the best in the world. The same wouldn't be true for leagues like MLS obviously.
Actually some stadiums can host both american football and football/soccer as well and no need for any further renovation... That's why US is one of only few countries that can host the world cup on a short notice as they have many stadiums that are large enough to host world cup games

As an American, who also loves soccer/football, I am very excited for World Cup 2026. If any fans, who do not live in North America, especially America, you will need to understand how vast the countries are. It is commonly said that in Europe, if you take a train for 4 hours, you might have been through 5 different countries. However in the US, 4 hours in the US might have taken you one State over, or maybe none. The American Public Transportation system is very, very underdeveloped sadly. You will need to either arrange a rental car, or a ride share. The size of the US is an understatement. Please do not think you can hit LA, NYC, Miami, Dallas, and Chicago all in 1 or 2 days, unless you fly.
well said my friend. I love the idea of 3 hosts but the vast distance and how much time and money will be needed to get from 1 city to another is simply overwhelming.

With each USA NFL stadium being World Cup Capacity, and 25 NCAA Tackle Football Stadiums being close to capacity, (American Tackle Football and FIFA football stadiums are like the same size, except different goal shapes.) A free for all Olympic style back to back innitial qualifier would be so cool. Like FIFA March Madness would be cool. More teams + betting pools always equal more fun at a sports bar style party.

NFL Stadiums are designed like Airplanes seats, but instead Regular, Business and First Class Seats, it's Normal, Club Seats, and Suites. So much profit is made from the Suites that all newer NFL Stadiums are loaded with them. Wealthy Americans are distributed across the country and the idea of decentralizing the game is to hit the local markets. Average Americans tend to spend a lot for 1-2 NFL games a year, if the NFL played every day the tickets would be worth much less, same with soccer. Being from here in Regina, the transit system is not suited enough to hold that much spectators or tourist coming into the city for such a huge event. Though CFL games have designated transit but for park and rides at malls or downtown parkades. The stadium is the only thing going for Regina, at least Toronto and Vancouver has its greater metropolitan area to do other stuff than just the World Cup games. Out of all cities listed it has the best and easiest to use public transit system making it extremely easy and fast to get around without worrying about renting a car getting an international license getting stuck in traffic and paying laughable prices for parking. Vancouver has easily the most accessible and fasted route to the major venues with 0 snags getting from the airport to hotel to venue to after parties and then back home. It’s also one of the most beautiful cities that are hosting making the trip an all around amazing time weather it’s World Cup related or vacation related. There’s literally something for everyone!
Also close enough to Seattle (normally 2.5hr drive, probably 3.5-4 hr bus ride during WC) to catch games over there as well, albeit in a different country.
People travelling from other countries are about to find out just how car-dependent everything in America is. Almost every stadium is outside of its city and everyone is expected to drive there so it has an enormous parking lot several times bigger than the stadium itself.
My thoughts exactly. I can already imagine a lot of frustrated fans sitting in traffic for hours.
At least Seattle, Philly, and Atlanta have good transit connections and New York and Boston have...usable connections
@@gautam0826 Philly has semi good transit. It’s the locals Tourists should be worried about LoL

As an Englishman, the stadiums look awesome and the World Cup is worth getting excited about. Four years late is better than never.
Hopefully, England will go to this WC, they were sorely missed in 94!
Tremendously insane stadiums and 48 teams.
The 2026 World Cup has everything to be best in history. Let’s focus on doing a good job as hosts! 🇲🇽
Azteca should have more important matches
48 teams will dilute the quality but of course it will make FIFA more money. Quite ridiculous. Just the way the 24 team European Championship has ruined what used to be the best and most competitive competition in international football.
I doubt it. The group stages in these format are way more interesting

It helps to Monterrey and Dallas be so important in Mexico and USA, to give them World Cup games.
Because Monterrey and Dallas in june-july are very hot, with temperatures like 40°C (like 100°F) or even more, will be a challenge for the cold weather teams.
No MLS team. All US and Canadian cities have MLS teams.
Can't wait, I live close to one of these locations.
I think Canada got kinda shafted on this one. Regina has one of the nicest stadiums in Canada (and a bigger capacity than BMO field). I can understand Regina not being picked, because they probably don't expect the city to handle the large influx of tourists, but we have other cities like Montreal (Olympic stadium is MASSIVE) or Edmonton/Calgary who have hosted World Cup games before.
Montreal took out their bid for the world cup
And soccer is huge in Canada, growing faster than hockey, as is doesn't require as much expensive equipment to play, plus a large population of newcomers to Canada from countries where soccer is the top sport.
edit: how many times are people going to reply to this old comment with the exact same reply, lol
I think Montreal or Edmonton should've been picked over Toronto. Calgary has a shit stadium and is an embarrassment for a city of its size!
agree ,toronto's stadium doesn't look good enough for a world cup
Being from here in Regina, the transit system is not suited enough to hold that much spectators or tourist coming into the city for such a huge event. Though CFL games have designated transit but for park and rides at malls or downtown parkades. The stadium is the only thing going for Regina, at least Toronto and Vancouver has its greater metropolitan area to do other stuff than just the World Cup games. That’s why most transit systems like the Montreal Metro was created and the temporary Vancouver Streetcar for their Olympics.
Finna watch a world cup match live for the first time ever.
The World cup should be done this way every time. Games held in a region and finals in the host nation.
When talking about Gillette Stadium, you could’ve probably added that it is home to the New England Revolution as well, since you were listing MLS teams on other stadiums. Otherwise, great video👍🏼.

I do agree, I think Las Vegas should have gotten the games they have the better Infrastructure for the fans from across the globe than San Francisco. Considering the fact that any fans going to those games need to drive basically into San Jose to view the event.

And the thing is allegiant stadium was designed to accommodate soccer and other types of events too. The Gold Cup was hosted there, and it's surrounded by all kinds of hotels

I am very excited about this and think moving to venues that will not require building new stadiums, like was required for this recent World Cup, makes the most sense. All of these cities have the needed hotel space as well to handle the crowds. IMO, the WC should be alternated between Europe and the US/Canada/Mexico locations with every third WC going to some other location in the world.
