Not getting accepted with a mid 90s grade average is mind blowing... Back in the day when I went to school, if you have that, it's a for sure acceptance. It bloggles my mind how competitive it is now. My son is in grade 12 this year and I am so nervous and stressed out for him.
Hey man don’t sweat it. I applied to 6 schools and got rejected from 3 this year: Waterloo for Computer science and Comp Sci Business dual degree, UBC Sauder, and Queen’s Commerce, and got accepted by u of t (math and physical sciences - rejected from CS), western, and SFU. This year was harsh and based on pure luck as compared to when covid wasn’t around.
Congrats Matt! I also made a youtube video but it was about my university decision reveal - an acceptance reaction takes so much bravery damnn i could NEVER. Hope you're liking Laurier!
haha thanks for checking out my video i really appreciate it! i also thought you made a great video - glad to see fellow canadian students on youtube 🇨🇦
I was wondering, did you have a lot of extra curriculars when applying? and if you don't mind me asking did you have experience in terms of coding? Thank you!
a bit late lol - but yes to be completely honest i did. at this point in the university application game, you need to in order to have a chance at good programs
depends on the program too - if youre applying to anything OTHER than cs/engineering/math then you might be okay. but also if you're doing that then i dont know if UW would be on your list haha
You might have a chance now. At the time he applied, it was during Covid so lots of thing were unfortunately inflated so many universities were strict. There probably much looser now so it’s worth a try.
One more thing I want to ask, Do you need to provide proof for your extracurriculars? And Should I do early admission or normal admission, does early admission hold more weight or help me to get a higher chance of acceptance? Thank you
you don't need proof, but you'll want legitimate sources so that you can write in detail on the supplementary applications. there is no difference between early or normal admission - just bragging rights lmao. i got accepted to wlu relatively late even though i had a high average, got scholarship etc etc. its just a numbers game. hope that helps and good luck!
Depending on the school. Some if you got accepted in early admission, they used grade 11 marks, and sometimes part of grade, and your grade 12 marks only have to be the acceptable. If you don’t get accepted in early admission, then your final average will need to be competitive. Some schools used grade 11 mark for early admission, while others use grade 11 marks and part of grade 12. So for example, if you got into early admission based on grade 11 mark of 95%, they will send you a conditional offer that your final grade 12 mark need to be 85% (some schools even let you in with minimum requirement for that degree that could be as low as 70%). While if you apply as regular admission, then your final grade 12 mark might need to be 90% to get accepted. Some schools let you apply for early admission, and if you were not accepted during early admission round, you would be considered for regular admission. If they do that, it is much more advisable to apply during early admission.
I have a question, what do you mean by laurier side and waterloo side? and the third program that you applied for cs/bba but only at laurier, how is it different from the first program that you applied to (cs/bba at uw and wlu)? I'm grade 10 now and I want to know more about the system, but it seems to be very confusing to me.
i get that - i didnt start looking at this until end of grade 11 so youre already ahead. basically, Wilfrid Laurier University offers CS and BBA at their university. that means your a laurier student. but there is also a program offered by WLU and UW as a joint program. you do CS at UW and BBA at WLU. that said, historically UW is harder to get into than laurier
Hey bro, is it possible if I can get a look at your grade 12 grades? Looking to apply to similar programs, and the double degree that you choose was one of my options, so wanted to know what my chances are. Thanks :)
Congrats. Im currently in gr12 and going to apply to the same university as you but will focus more on the business and economics aspects. I'm doing an IB curriculum and my avg is a mid 30 like 35-37, do you think I will get acceptance. And also do you have to submit IELTS score, if yes how much did u achieve overall.
Around when did you get all the acceptance letter? I applied for architectural programs and I still didn’t get all the acceptence…do you think I failed to get in…😭
Bro that’s crazy, u had mid 90s and still got rejected from Laurier side. I am currently in grade 12, I have around a 95-96 average so far. Do you think I can make UW CS WLU BBA from the laurier side? And if u don’t mind me asking what was ur avg?
yeah man its tough lmfao. but im not too pressed - everything happens for a reason and there are so many more factors that go into admissions other than marks. but anyways, youre grades are definitely high enough and i think you have a great shot - just make sure those extracurriculars are in check. if you have ONLY high marks then youre going in with a disadvantage. my average (top 6) was a 93 if im not mistaken but im going to be making a stats ec type video soon since ive been getting this question a ton. thanks for watching the video and for your comment!
Thanks I appreciate that! Honestly I would've expected UW to be harder considering their #1 for Mathematics (which CS falls under) but nothing beats UofT being the #1 school in the country - thanks for letting me know I appreciate that!
Lmao no it’s not are u dumb. Firstly, uwaterloo has the best co-op program in North America and is ranked as one of the best cs programs as well, attracting a lot of CMO, IOI, and extremely talented and gifted students. This is reinforced by their top level results in contests like ICPC. The Waterloo application also heavily looks at your ec’s, something that u of t doesn’t ask for in the cs application. UW is much harder to get into; in fact, I think the average for the people who got rejected this year was a 97.5% ish. So yea buddy, get ur facts checked @TheKudz

Hello, I would like to ask you if you have any tips and tricks for the Personal Profile part of my University of Toronto application. Is there any place I could find the questions asked there? What do I have to keep in mind during the Profile? How do I prepare for it? What questions did you get on your Personal Profile, both written and video-recorded? Any answer will be a great help. Thank you for your time.
Hey Asliraf, this seems like a really important topic especially considering that its uni application season. Perhaps I could make a video on this sharing my insights as someone that went through the process during COVID? Regardless, I don't have my questions saved (I'll try finding them) but if you do a quick google search, you can find some sample questions. But either way, the questions are personal so there is no real "preparation". Instead, be completely honestly and don't try to fake anything - be yourself. Try to pull from your own experiences and exaggerate them if you have to - whenever you're talking from experience, it is always easier to answer questions. That said, don't stress! At the end of the day, applications is just a numbers game so try your best and put the odds in your favour. My luck didn't pay off this application season for UofT, but I hope that yours will! I hope this helps and thanks for the insightful question :)
