No. The feel, sound, and look of custom keyboards elevates them from mass produced boards. For most people the difference isn't worth the price increase and that's fair enough, but it is still a quality of life improvement. If you use a keyboard a shit tonne, have money to spare, and are interested in the hobby it's worth it.

You keep your hand steady by putting it on the table and literally apply medium pressure to the pad and pin at the same time :) This will fix your solder joints! Practice makes perfect with soldering! (I totally cracked at 5:30 LOL)

7:53 oh no, that's *very* bad all solder fumes can cause occupational asthma, which is irreversible. this is because most good solder wire has this thing called "Rosin" in them that helps the solder go liquidy and flow when hot. this "Rosin" thing is what can cause irreversible occupational asthma, and let's be honest, we don't want our hamaji boy to have asthma at the very least, I recommend using a face mask, but if you can afford one, you should get a solder fume extractor. but not one of the cheaper ones, it's best to invest in a more expensive one for the sake of your health. trust me, it's worth it. other than that, great build and video! you've really dove deep into the community since the last keyboard video lmao i'm glad bigger name youtubers are introducing this beautiful (but very expensive) hobby to more people. also jazz music and custom keyboards? hamaji is taeha types' long lost brother confirmed
I feel so bad for the switches and PCB for going through with that solder job. Rest the soldering iron tip on the pin and the pad at the same time (preferably at a 45 degree angle), then proceed to melt the soldering lead into it. After ample amount of lead is on the pin and pad, do not remove the iron immediately, let the lead flow properly until it looks like mt. fuji then that's it.
he just needed enough for contact, with how much solder each pin had on it you could solder another 2 boards LOL nothing that watching a youtube video beforehand couldn't help with

I'm fairly certain that with most pcb's you should be able to remap some keys, so you would be able to use the arrow keys on a 60% by holding down a function key or super key. Great build tho regardless
@@papasscooperiaworker3649 you can make an extra layer using a program via which supports a decent amount of after market pcb's. So by holding down a fn key, you can then hit keys on the second layer to act as arrow keys. So fn+w for up arrow if that makes sense

Sorbothane in the bottom of this case has shown me good results, especially with linear gateron milky blacks and helped with reverb in clients cases as well (Box Jades). If you want more Thock I recommend it. Also gorgeous keyboard and great job building. I lost screws when building for the first time between the PCB as well. It was such a nightmare lol.

I see that you don't use Home/End very often.... I usually apply the "shove it up where nobody will touch it" philosophy to the Insert/Print Screen keys.
this is why i really like the anne pro 2 because it has the "tap" feature where the bottom right fn,menu,ctrl and shift key serves as arrow keys when tapped but if u wanna have arrow keys that you can hold, u can bind it to the magic fn key (holding the caps lock) so its caps lock + aswd for holdable arrow keys
ive bought my own kit recently and its still in transit. For me Ive bought a pcb with hot swap slots cuz I dont want to go threw the soldering process. Cant wait to get started.
You can put some foam or even better sorbothane to make the keyboard's sound a bit less pingy and hollow. GMK/cherry stabs are not as good anymore after retooling, get some everglide/durock/c3/zeal stabs, they will be much nicer, also don't be afraid to overlube the stabs, unlike switches stabs are more opened and all excess lube will wear out very fast and thay will feel good. Oils work way better for bag lubing.
6:59 Bandaid mod is for dampening the sound of the stabilizer bottoming out, it wont reduce the rattling And GMK stabilizer are retooled now, they are bad NOW, try Durock/JWK/C3 screw in.
On the stabilizer note, durock, c3 and zeal currently make the best stabs also a solder wick is as cheap and perfectly good alternative to a solder sucker
I always over lube my switches because when you start using them, they will cover a larger area and even out eventually. I notice that if you lube just enough like for Cherry MX, they get scratchy after awhile as the thin application with some friction doesn't cover a lot of area.
When thick-lubing switches for a solder build I'd highly recommend a post-lube test of each switch on a hot-swap board or switch tester w/ a keycap installed. Nothing worse than slow and sluggish over-lubed switches (same goes for stabs). Regardless, stock Ink Blacks feel great and sound pretty good stock.
