on one of the very first goons podcast dooo actually goes pretty in depth talking about music theory and how it allows him to do what he does. music theory is huge in basically going from just reading musical notes and just playing the notes almost like reading a book and more understanding how sounds flow together and if he can just pick up the pitch and key he can play a song just from hearing such a short snippet of it and of course over 15+ years of playing guitar as well and just having just pure musical talent he's amazing even the original music he wrote himself on spotify is just masterful stuff imo i got that on my playlist that i listen to every day

If you want a hint to how he learns songs so quickly, it all starts with the Circle of Fifths. Most basic songs use 3 chords; the one for the key it's in, and then the two on either side of it. If it's a bit more complex, then also use the chord for the related Major/minor key (with the same key signature), and maybe even the two chords on either side of that. That does most songs except jazz and classical. If you throw in some key changes, that even does a lot of classical. Jazz is beyond my knowledge level. HTH.

he actually has a backing track playing most of the time, he usually loops a 4/4 progression (he uses his foot to control the looper) and plays over it but he rarely shows him recording the backing track

funny thing is he could already be heavily famous and not by youtube standards i mean. since noone knows who he is he could easily be a random band member from bands like metallica, megadeth, korn, iron maiden ect and we may never even know since he never showed his face which could be another theory as to why he doesnt his face. another reason which is the real reason is he doesnt want anyone to know because he doesnt want people in his hometown or local areas to know hey thedooo live in my town. so with that being said thedooo could even be your neighbor and you would never know he lived next door since he doesnt want you to know. its mainly to protect his fame from those in his local area. but either way he could even be a famous band member. now this a theory so idk if itd be true but he could be buckethead as well as noone even knows who bucketheads identity is either

The Dooo can do, because he probably studied music theory. Most people who studied music theory can predict how a song goes by listening to it for a bit. That's why you see (improvised) whenever he does that. This especially applies to most, if not all, pop songs.
Love The Dooo!! I've been a subscriber before he even reached a million subscribers. Wish you could see his first few videos before anyone knew him, he had them taken down because of copyright though. He has older videos but the ones that got taken down were absolutely gold!! Those were the best ones IMO. I watched them like 20 times each haha People kept asking for thunderstruck because in his first videos someone said "If this isn't a recording I want you to hit me with Thunderstruck in 3.2.1." And ever since then, that's all people kept asking for, so he got tired of it pretty quick haha
