For being a finish carpenter and not a floor guy it looks great. The whole series of the project was very enjoyable and I learned of few things watching them great job !!
Hey Richard, I’ve been a finish carpenter for 32 years now. Just like you, I did one and one set of floors only. Much easier to do crown molding. Love your channel
The floor looks sharp. Great to know that white oak can have that natural unfinished look while being protected and smooth. I appreciate you putting these videos together.
Richard i want to thank you for your energy and sharing small things that makes DIY guys life a little easier. Tool description is very helpful. Thanks ones again. 😁
Richard you called it the natural stain and the satin/Flat final coat was the perfect blend just remind the rest of us the lowest grade of oak planks and the Very Best Finish...Thank you very much I'm doing just that on my next hardwood floor...
I am pleased with this video: )!! I love the look bro thank you!! I am doing the same thing and your video is the first one to explain AND SHOW the products in order to keep the light natural wood look, appreciate its
The pride you take in all of your work, no matter what you are doing shines through. Your phone will always be ringing , since your name is synonymous with quality and care. I don’t have to say keep it up, since you know no other way.👍
You are so gifted in so many ways. Your work is methodical to the point of being mesmerizing, and your results are nothing short of beautiful. You've taught me a LOT, and I'm probably 15-20 years your senior. Thank you for taking the time to make these informative and entertaining videos, and for explaining your thought process as well as you do. Your channel is the only channel I get "giddy" for, when I see a new video has been posted.
The intro with you and the buffer brought back memories. My 1st day when I got to Shepard AFB for my Tech School (Jan 1969) a group of us had to strip, wax, & buff a large class room. That was my 1st time ever using a buffer and I was kicked around just like your intro. ROFL
Great job! We did the exact same whitewash procedure you demonstrated and also did a water-based finish in 2017. Floors still look fantastic as a natural white oak (no yellowing)!
I had a finishes guy once tell me if you build with a gloss and finish the topcoat with a flat/ matte finish it will not yellow so much. Flat finishes are gloss with an additive to flatten it. This is where yellow comes from. So layer with gloss, finish with flat. I did this on a table and 7 thin coats and 4 years later, it still looks great. Great job!
I laid my own oak wood flooring. 2000sqft of it finished with hard wax, so I can totally appreciate how much work this is. Saved a hell of a lot of money doing it myself though.
As with everything you do, your diligence and innate quality workmanship made for a perfect finish! Thanks for sharing the how to and making these videos!
The finish looks great! I too don’t like it when wood has a layer of plastic on it. It looks so much better when it just has a subtle sheen looks more natural.
Great job never thought I would like flat on a floor it looks great and u have a great looking family bro keep it up I've been in the business for 35 yrs and I've learned alot of new tricks thanks to you PEACE
Just an FYI. The edger is meant to cut left to right. Also bona makes a water based sealer called natural seal and it’s basically raw looking. They have a naturalle poly too. Looks good!
Yes edge left to right and big machine right to left. We had a sub who use to do a first coat water base then one or two top coats with oil. Looked almost purple or pastel looked awesome.
I’ve been watching most of the RUclipsr who doing stuff that you do and man I’m telling you the way you explained things crown moldings and stuff even the floor which is not pro but still loving it. I’m learning from you and you doing great 👍
Flat finish is the way to go. Modern. I am a painter and flatter (not ceiling flat) wall finishes are very popular. Low sheen is also easier for touchups. Nice job. Thanks for posting the process.
I love this. Excellent work. I'm sure you have gained many different skills from doing this type of work. Also, with it being in your own home, you can make mistakes and they don't cost huge bank.
WOW!! for me first time using that sander up on a second floor deck the thing shot around and knocked some of the spindles loose and almost took a dive off the side of the deck with me on it. Good job on the floors looks really nice but sooooooo much work. Enjoy your vids alot to learn, good teacher on the trim work. Thanks
I'm so glad I ran across your video. I am in the process of finishing my original hard wood floors and wanted to keep it's original color ....thank you for the information on how to attain that. Your floors look great!!
That intro though! 😂😂😂😂😂 I have to admit, that is some of the nicest looking #3 white I've seen done. Absolutely perfect in my humble opinion. Pat yourself on the back. You just finished a floor that looks a million times better than 99% of the "natural" white oak floors I've seen. You're a beast Richard @Finish Carpentry TV 💪💪
Love the flat finish! I’m hoping to get wood flooring just like this. Love it- the flat finish gives a more “rustic” look/feel. Shows off the “natural beauty “ of the wood.
You done the right way the most companies they do faster 1 because they are profecional and 2 they do faster the other way they don’t make money , I like the satin finish but every body like something diferent and last I used to make by my shelf this Cain the jobs but now I give to my friend David he it’s a profecional wood flooring guy I leave to the profecional and I make just some little budget at the side again very good job mr thanks for sharing you videos
Been in the business since 1965, I was 15 yo. You learn by doing. I knew that buffer was going to bounce you around. The handle was straight up. My buffer and my 12 in. Clark drum sander were cast iron. Can't find part for it anymore. Used to belong to my dad. Products have changed a lot. We used to use sealer, and varnish. We used an eight inch horsehair brush to apply the finish. In the 70's, I started to apply the first coat of self-leveling poly with a 16 in lambswool applicator and the 2 extra coats with an airless. Customer's floors still look awesome. I used to be criticized by others in the trade for using an airless, I had the last laugh. Don't be afraid to experiment especially if it's your home. Be a pioneer. Good job for a beginner.
That flat look is better in my opinion great work I’m a finish carpenter myself and I do all everything I can myself the stuff the seen some people do it will blow your mind lol
Beautiful floors. I tend to be more of a natural hickory person which is what I have throughout my house. I used to hate oak floors. The ones I've seen have an orange look to them and I hate that. Seeing your oak floors has changed my mind. I love that you went with a natural finish and I would have to say that I like the flat finish better than the satin. I would never have thought of using a flat or matte finish on floors. Looks super nice!
Pretty cool my man. I enjoy your Chanel because you are real. Not putting on a show for anyone. Not trying to act like you are the best at everything. I want to start my own Chanel as well just done even know how to start. I do a lot of what you do. I get so inspired by your Chanel and done know if you have any tips on how to get the Chanel started? Let me know. God bless.
That came out nice bro! Great job. Dont worry about what other people got to say. Somebody always got something to say. I will be doing the same to my floors.
Just a couple things, I know you're not a flooring guy but if you do this again in the future I'd suggest hitting the floor with a 120 grit screen after staining, the stain will penetrate deep enough you won't take it out of the wood and it will knock down the open grain created from the stain. It just helps for a smoother finish. That duraseal stain is the way to go!
We've been watching your great videos for a while now. My son is learning how to install flooring and your videos are a big help! Thanks for posting them...I may be making a contribution to your site soon! Maybe I can buy something from your store! Thanks for everything, man!
If you have any as-yet unstained rooms to do, I'd like you to try something as an experiment. An old school hardwood floor guy, who trained lots of crews for a large company, told me that after the final vacuum, you must wipe it down with a mineral spirit rag. It works like a tack cloth, and makes a difference in the quality of the finish. I''ve never seen a comparison, but his floors come out really nice. He would dampen the rag with spirits, wrap over an applicator on a pole, and go from there with a single final wipe (he used about two rags/room). Give it a try if you're curious. He would apply finish after that, oil or water-borne.
Great job Rich....you have beautiful kids by the way. I'm sure they will be happy with your work...they don't understand how skilled their daddy is ...but they will in about 7 years.
You’re polite enough to not give advice but you did it much better than 95% of people that want to tell everyone else how to do it 😂 good job
Just now seeing this. THANK YOU! I think I've seen all of your videos! lol You're the real deal!
I literally choked eating my broccoli when that buffer kicked your ass in the beginning haha. Love your channel man keep it up.
"when you guys make your crown molding video im gonna grab my popcorn" LOL im a framer, made respect man you do great work!
@Guillermo Mekhinah... as long as she dont hack mine...I'm good.
For being a finish carpenter and not a floor guy it looks great. The whole series of the project was very enjoyable and I learned of few things watching them great job !!
I was just thinking how cool it is going to be for those little ones to be able to see how talented their daddy really is.
This dude is KILLING it on his floor. Such a beautiful floor. I love the natural and flat look. Dang !

Appreciating your fine job is not nerdy. That's a special kind of joy many people will never achieve.
I been watching all your videos, and i am a carpenter and love how the way you detail everything that you do
The pride you take in all of your work, no matter what you are doing shines through. Your phone will always be ringing , since your name is synonymous with quality and care. I don’t have to say keep it up, since you know no other way.👍
The kids liked it. Nice job on the floor finish, not sure I would have selected the flat finish but after seeing it I like it.
I am in construction and it is so awesome to see true craftsmanship and pride in a job done completely by hand.
That intro was everything! 😂

the floor you ended up with is luxury. great work!
Wow. Great series and a ton of work. Way to tough it out and give those kids a nice home. Respect.

I defiantly like the flat look the best. Great job!
Excellent! super high end, modern but timeless look with that flat finish.

Looks really nice, I can appreciate the amount of work having done a house before. I swore off that work after I was done.
As with everything you do, your diligence and innate quality workmanship made for a perfect finish! Thanks for sharing the how to and making these videos!
Awesome again! The floors are just gorgeous! Your children are enjoying it already! Awesome!
The finish looks great! I too don’t like it when wood has a layer of plastic on it. It looks so much better when it just has a subtle sheen looks more natural.
So much to know about so many things
Who said trade life is dull
Not dull at all, just matte....boom, where do I sign up

Traffic HD looks almost completely clear. Way more clear than water.
Water based, too.
Yes edge left to right and big machine right to left. We had a sub who use to do a first coat water base then one or two top coats with oil. Looked almost purple or pastel looked awesome.
floors are coming out amazing 🔥🔥🔥 good job Rich
You've worked your butt off on this floor....Fantastic 👏 job brother.......
I’ve been watching most of the RUclipsr who doing stuff that you do and man I’m telling you the way you explained things crown moldings and stuff even the floor which is not pro but still loving it. I’m learning from you and you doing great 👍
Definitely like the flat better. Thanks for your insight and trials. Saves me the work. Keep it up.
The flat looks better than the sheen. Much better than I expected it to be. Cheers from Australia.
The floors are stunning !! I love the flat finish . Thank you for sharing
Those floors are awesome a girl I work with did that to her first floor throughout the whole house and it is awesome
Love these floors! You did a great job. I’m finishing up kitchen oak floors now and didn’t want it to go too dark so this helps.
Flat finish is the way to go. Modern. I am a painter and flatter (not ceiling flat) wall finishes are very popular. Low sheen is also easier for touchups. Nice job. Thanks for posting the process.
It does look very nice with the flat floor finish so whatever you did I agree no plastic looking poly!
I love this. Excellent work. I'm sure you have gained many different skills from doing this type of work. Also, with it being in your own home, you can make mistakes and they don't cost huge bank.

Flat finish looks awesome on my big screen TV. Thanks for sharing your exploration. Floor looks professionally done.
Did a fabulous job. As an electrician I want to get in to other trades and get the exposure thanks for the upload! Stay safe
This was the best intro yet. 10/10
Looks great! Your kiddos are beautiful! I remember playing on hardwood floors after my mom had just waxed and buffed them out... sliding across
Love the flat finish! I’m hoping to get wood flooring just like this. Love it- the flat finish gives a more “rustic” look/feel. Shows off the “natural beauty “ of the wood.
Flat finish hides allot of the different shades of the white oak. I like it‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸
I’m tackling a #3 white oak floor myself. Appreciate your video!
Flat for the win. Looks great.

I work with wood floors for 21 years, and I think you did

Looks good, I like the flat I we be putting it over my satin as well. Flat for the win, Yeah!
The flat looks awesome. Great job, man!
I've laid flooring a few times in my life. My knees and my back let me know it wasn't the career for me....
My brother in law put this finish in his house and never forgot how good it looked.
If you have any as-yet unstained rooms to do, I'd like you to try something as an experiment. That's better work than some "professionals" I've been in after.
Wow! That flat finish is really, really beautiful! Totally worth your work and research! Gorgeous. You'll have to let us know how it holds up!
Great job Rich....you have beautiful kids by the way. I'm sure they will be happy with your work...they don't understand how skilled their daddy is ...but they will in about 7 years.
Great job Richard. Haven’t used an orbit sander, only a belt sander and there’s definitely a learning curve on that equipment.
Success is learned through failures. Nice job....
