- A new supergroup featuring Carrie Brownstein (of Sleater-Kinney and NPR's Monitor Mix blog), Janet Weiss (of Sleater-Kinney and Quasi, among others), Mary Timony (of Helium) and Rebecca Cole (of The Minders), WILD FLAG's only release so far is a tour-only 7" single. Which means that few in the crowd at NPR Music's SXSW day party at The Parish in Austin, Texas, had heard a note of its rollicking, adventurous pop-rock before walking in the door. I cant believe its been over 10yrs since this record came out. Still holds up!
I've listened and loved tons and tons and tons of music in my life but this album is now forever my soundtrack for life. They made just one, but perfect album
I just saw them in Sydney. Theyre the funnest band ever. Mary bounces around the stage like a fairy on acid in her own little world, while carrie is just rocking out with her usual moves. Such a good combination
Oh my god, they are amazing, wish I was there! And to all the other Wild Flag shows, for that matter. They work so well together, it´s freaking awesome.
The most rock n roll thing on earth-disbanded after your perfect first album.
wild flag so rules. they're like a dream band.
i love you Mary :,)
I love you Wild Flag
Found this by accident and was blown away. Awesome.
what a truly rocking buch of ladies. they are so tight.
Love Timony...Watched her since Autoclave....her guitar and composition. Too bad she wasn't willing to do what she needed to, to hit the big time...she deserved it!
Wowwowow the lyrics to Short Version! I thought I was singing the wrong song! IT just shows how songs evolve even long after they're written and performed. I love Wild Flag.
I love you carrie, your awesome
Mary Timony is a great gyitar player.
it's like sonic youth.....but happier. i love this, so much.
geeze what can she not do? Carrie is funny, beautiful and shes a musician. Incredible
CARRIE'S VOCALS IN FUTURE CRIMES... HOLY SHIT
Just saw them at the Grog shop in Cleveland. What a show. This video will suffice till I get to see them again.
I fucking love them.
I was so surprised when I discovered it was her on portlandia. I was watching the show and I was like I feel like I know this girl. haha any how amazing show!!!
SoO good!!
I like it! awesome set!
CARRIE IS A DREAM COME TRUE!!! SHE IS SO SO VERY GORGEOUS!!!!!!
Y so good
Carrie, Janet and Corin are so perfect together that any other configuration seems like a lesser use of their talents. Mary is perfect all by herself
I like Wild Flag, and I hope the reason they broke up is cause there is gonna be a Sleater-Kinney reunion...I'd be so glad if that happened :)
So...
yep ;)
this comment has aged SO WELL
That Orange amp deserves so much better.
Also I agree with @derekmok. I do too miss Corin Tucker. Every time I listen to Sleater-Kinney after listening to Wild Flag there is just this spark or just something special that Sleater Kinney has that I know Wild Flag can have too but they just need more time to evolve as a band until they can hit their stride. Again I love Wild Flag.
That spark is Corin Tucker lol
Mary's part around 5:50 is very Deerhunter
GREAT !!!
Is it too late to see a Wild Flag concert? In Brazil?
TIMONY
Mary t$
mary or carrie? carrie or mary? i shall have them both.
It sounds like the front of house mix, not a mix that was meant to sound good sitting at home. And it doesn't even sound like a really great front of house mix at that.
What is that sound at 11:14?
do they have no bass?
when?
damn, they tore that shit up with future crimes.
put a bird on it
Like if you found out about them via Portlandia. lol
Cacao!
Actually , this a pretty good mix, the Yuck mix , that really was bad....
Brownstein. I want to start a farm with you and the music director of Soma FM, Elise. We can raise rabbits. And in the day we can feed and tend to our acreages of lapins -- and when the sun sets, the three of us can move our feet in the dust of the gravel driveway to the sound of indie rock. And then we can rock out forever.
I can't have new S-K. This is filling a gap in that that I didn't know need filled.
Please give me more Future Crimes and less Glass Tam. Just a suggestion.
@myzakm I was trying to say that she could play this gar-bage through a much cheaper amp, that is all. :)
What?
:-)
Ha ha! Clueless fanboy. You're listening to *Mary Timony* and you're talking about singing flat? Get the wax out of your ears before you try to comment on things you don't know a thing about. Corin Tucker missed notes all the time as well, but she had passion and attitude to make up for it.
Vag n' Roll
I miss Corin Tucker. Janet Weiss is great as usual, but the vocals and rhythm guitar are sooo ordinary. Mary Timony is a very poor substitute for Tucker; I remember thinking the same thing on The Spells' EP.
just as boring as the album.
I love you Wild Flag
