- Three days straight of offshore kayak fishing the Navarre Beach, Florida reefs for red snapper season opening week!
We took our kayaks offshore to the reefs in Navarre Beach, Florida to target one of the tastiest and most sought-after fish in the Gulf of Mexico, the Red Snapper!
We ran into so sharks along the way, fought bad weather, and dealt with some hiccups but we got it done and brought home limits. Awesome first week of red snapper season!

That edit was crispy 🔥🔥🔥
1 mile offshore!!! Man I have the ultimate jealousy!! 😂 great video! Tight lines
Yep! We even have them in our Bay here in Pensacola. It's pretty crazy!
Awesome vid. You keep getting better and better.
I appreciate that! Thank you. im glad you enjoyed the video
Great editing
Great fishing
Thank you! much appreciated 🤙
Very very nice
Thank you, it was fun times out there!
@@ckwoutdoors I also enjoy your videos, so please keep em coming!!
@@datronheath735 Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. They're definitely going to keep coming!
@ckwoutdoors awesome and I can't wait to get back out on the water, but hardly the time due to work! I'm also an avid great fisherman myself
Awesome day out there! Curious to what your rod and reel setup is? I’m just getting into kayak fishing and I’d like to go out in the gulf and fish some when I come down
I don't use anything too crazy or expensive.
I'd look into the Penn Battle 3 combos. The reel is excellent for the price, and the rod it comes on is pretty decent. I use the 5k size reel/8foot Rod for offshore. That's plenty for small sharks, jacks, snapper.
The Daiwa BG combos are awesome too.
For red snapper, mangroves, smaller grouper, triggerfish, a 4k reel is plenty. I like the 5k size though as an all around size reel that I can use for blackfin tuna, king mackerel, jacks, that sort of thing. In my opinion unless you're getting into big sharks, tarpon, big grouper, much more than a 6k just statys getting too heavy to co.fortable use all day.
I also am using a 4/0 Penn Senator conventional reel in this video for bottom fishing. Good reel for this sort of thing. You can get them new for less than $150, and I have mine paired with an Uglystik Tiger Elite Jigging rod that was only $80. I like it as a cheap conventional combo.
Would love to get a kayak, but that looks crazy to be that far out in one 😮. But you're the pro not me 😅
Thank you so much for the reply! I will definitely look into a few of this rid and reel combos. What’s a good all around size line you would use for all the fish you named? 40lb?
Absolutely!
Yes, 40lb is good for just about everything from large snappers, Bonita, triggers, mackerel, and more. My blackfin tuna I caught this last winter was on 40lb too without issue. Most reels I have for offshore are 30lb or 40lb PowerPro Braid or Yozuri SuperBraid, but it's the leader I change depending on what I'm doing. My tuna was on 80lb, mostly just so I could horse it a bit and not worry, but for snapper you can size down if you want. Honestly though, I usually run between 30lb and 80lb flouro leader for snapper fishing and don't have much issue. I really like Seaguar Blue Label, or the Yozuri Hybrid Flouro.
I have buddies that run 100lb, 150lb, even 200lb leader for bottom fishing but they are hauling up sharks and stuff more than I care too lol. If you are getting bites on heavier leader go for it as it reduces the chances of the fish breaking you off in a reef and you can horse them up faster, but I tend to find heavier line reduces bites from fish that are more shy.
Personally I'm not really targeting anything bigger than Amberjacks and Snapper, but if you really wanna bring up sharks intentionally you can use like 100lb+ line haha. I'd rather they break off.. easier release lmao
Ok I’ll probably do the same, I’m gonna want to catch more fish so I’ll probably go with a 40-50lb leader! Thanks for the help again! Those are some nice snapper and amberjacks y’all were catching. I guess a shark ever now and then makes it fun 😂
Which side of the snapper did Levy get
Neither lol, he doesn't eat much fish so lucky me! 😂
